Canadian here, started out co renting in a house with couples and single women. Over 3vyrs it ended up me, and 5 male roommates. I had master bedroom and bathroom. I just didn't use tne rest of the house anymore except the laundry room. It was OK, I had no say who my landlord put in rooms as they became available. Nothing untoward happened. When he sold the place I moved.

Depends where you live in SC. In March 2019, my ex's apartment was rented to her for $1100/mo. 1BD/1BA 750sqf. Her very same apartment is available right now for $1782. The downstairs tenant who moved in 6 months after her was paying $1400~ for the same thing. Prices are crawling up everywhere unless you're literally in the middle of nowhere.
