Juicy, yet unripe Star fruits was the "Star" of our well prepared lunch table | Traditional Me

- There is a small tree of star fruit in the edge of our garden. Though the tree is not so matured it was filled with star fruits(Carambola) in every branch of the tree. They all were moderately ripe yet very juicy at all. I went and picked some unripe star fruits to make a spicy curry in the method of making pineapple curry as an accompaniment to the prawn ghee rice which I’ve decided to make for lunch. When sliced, the star fruits are like stars which have fallen into the kitchen. Brother doesn’t like to pick star fruits unripe as he always want to keep them until they get fully ripen. I could't say anything since that tree is his own. Yet the drink that he made by adding the unripe star fruits with strawberries, ripen mangoes was awesomely tasty and very colourful as well. The leftover of the squeezed star fruits mixed with onions and tomatoes was also a tasty salad which was a true match with the rice dish.
The rice made with the lagoon prawn curry which was mixed with button mushrooms, capsicum and roasted cashew nuts were given a different rich taste when the ghee was sprinkle on top of it and cooked it under high flame. This rice dish is getting a different taste when cooked on top of the prawn curry steam and once the curry gets mixed up it gives another different taste. Further I didn’t have a time to do a salad at all because it was a mad rush with the lunch preparation but Thank God that brother have already decided to make his own salad from the leftover Star fruits. Grandmother really like to eat these type of randomly made dishes. The delicious drink that brother had made at the last lapse of the lunch was really a match made in Heaven!

කලපු ඉස්සො කරියට බොත්තම් හතුයි, මාලු මිරිසුයි, රෝස්ට් කරපු කජුයි එක්කාසු කරල හදපු බත ගොඩක් වෙලා වැඩි ගින්දරේ මිශ්‍ර කරගත්තා. ගිතෙල් ටික ඉස්සො තෙම්රාදුවට එකතු කරගත්තට වඩා බතට උඩින් එකතු කලාම දැනෙන රසය වෙනස්. කලින් හදාගත්ත ඉස්සෝ කරියේ හුමාලයෙන් බත ආයෙත් තැම්බෙද්දි බතට එකතු වෙන්නෙ වෙනස්ම රසයක්. ආපහු ඒ කරිය බතට මිශ්‍ර වුනාම තවත් රසවත් වෙනවා. කොහොම වුනත් බත හදාගන්න තරමක් වෙලා ගියපු නිසා මට සලාදයක් හදා ගන්න වෙලාවක් තිබුනෙ නැ. හොඳ වෙලාවට මල්ලි සලාදයක් හැදුවෙ.
ඉඳල හිටල හදන මෙහෙම කෑම වේලකට අත්තම්මාත් ගොඩක් කැමතියි. ඒ කෑම වේල අවසානෙට හරියන්න මල්ලි හදපු බීම එකත් හොඳටම ගැලපුනා.

My mom and I watching this video from the Philippines. We never thought that Star fruit can be cooked that way. We have a Star fruit tree in our backyard. We eat it as a fruit and sometimes we cook it with a fish saute mix with vinegar, soy sauce and other spices. Thank you for sharing this way of cooking Star fruit. I will try to make a lemon star fruit with cucumber juice and make a stir fry shrimp with it. 🤗

The rustic beauty of your village, nature in its purest form, your family, earthen & clay pots, the culinary, everything...the list goes on! I'm completely in awe watching you dishing out delicacies just like that! It's magical!I've finished watching almost half of your videos in a couple of days and yearning to see much more. Your videos remind me of my childhood vacations at my grandmother's place...since it's a coastal area, the cuisine is more or less same like yours with scraped coconut in every dish!
