There is a lot of it in this climate. I absolutely love AFI and all of their side projects, I have been a fan since 1996 and they are still my favorite band to this day. I was just surprised at all the comments where people were getting bent out of shape over what he was saying. I heard it as not taking a political stance but taking a purely social stance and hoping that no matter who you are that you find a family and comfort at their shows.

But its because of the fans that makes me not enjoy it. Have you heard XTRMST? It’s Davey and Jade’s newer hardcore project. It’s even more hard core and energetic than early AFI. Even the screaming in it is way more intense. It has a very unique sound that is reminiscent of Black Flag and Converge (chaotic and technical music) along with elements of Minor Threat and Judge (straight edge lyrics). Let me know what you think of it. It sounds like for the most part we probably agree a lot on music. I miss the hell out of the late nineties and early 2000’s punk and hardcore scenes. I love Pennywise, Bad Religion, Sick of it all, Agnostic Front, Madball, Lag Wagon, Murphy’s Law, Blood for Blood, NUFAN, NOFX, Ensign, American Nightmare, Shai Hulud. I can go on and on. Give XTRMST a listen and maybe it will give you a little hope in AFI even if you don’t like the newer music, they do still stay very active in and support the punk and hardcore scene. They always take punk and hardcore bands on tour with them and they always talk about that being where there hearts are but that their playing had just evolved away from it in a lot of ways.
