The majority of the members of the Baseball Writers Association never even played little league baseball but they are seen fit to be judging men who love a sport and who dedicated their lives to baseball. Those writers that are on the HOF nomination committee owe their livelihood to those players. Why does a baseball writer feel that player are obligated to kiss their ass. The HOF committee members should have a term limit. That way new writers will know it's not a lifetime position and the fan's respect for the HOF might be restored.

What about all the guys who took "greenies", or the guys throwing "spitballs" and "greaseballs", or all the other various forms of cheating throughout baseball history. Baseball is a tough sport, probably the toughest skill wise, so even if you're really good it can be a struggle. When fame, fortune and generational wealth are on the line people will do whatever it takes to succeed.

Maybe helped them hit it further but not hit it pure enough to truly be drove. Look at McGwire his rookie year. He hit 49 and I swear he could have hid behind a telephone pole. Griffey Jr also was not really a big guy. Just packing on muscle does not make a power hitter. he was intentionally walked a ridiculous amount of times out of fear of his ridiculous juiced up power. The steroids massively affected all his stats making them really pretty invalid looking. Even though he was an easy HOFer before using, this is what happens when you are most known for using literal performance enhancing drugs. To the point where the PED scandal is the first thing you think about with Bonds now. So everything he achieved will now never be treated as fully legitimate. His literal all time home run ball even has a literal asterisk on it. The guy who bought it for like a bajillion dollars literally stuck a giant golden asterisk on his own bajillion dollar record breaking HR ball in its museum display lmfao. That should tell you a lot about how the use of PEDs is viewed in MLB

@@centinelyork Ortiz was officially declared innocent by the MLB and the investigation showed that he never failed a test after all, thats why he got in and the other users didn't. People dont seem to realize that, i guess because him "failing a test" was big news and then the retraction and correction by the league and investigation that he never actually failed a test wasn't big news lol but still. People should probably look into that, even many educated and hardcore fans seem not to know that Ortiz name was cleared later on lol.
But yeah of course i said myself bonds was a HOFer before using. That's not the point, if he had never used and just fell off after his prime was up we wouldn't even be talking about this because he would have been in ages ago. The point is, by choosing to use. Bonds invalidated pretty much everything he ever achieved . including the stuff from before he was juiced up. The way we can prove that is by looking at the fact that Bonds isn't most known for what he accomplished before using. He is far and away most known for being a steroid user and the face of the PED scandal. The PEDs are without a doubt the first thing you think about when you think of Bonds now. Especially because of this entire saga. And that's how it often is with these things in MLB. Pete Rose also arguably has a case to be considered the greatest player ever. Much like Bonds. But what's the first thing you think of when you think of Pete Rose lol. its sad but thats just how it works in baseball. And theyve obviously decided they dont want to put someone in if the first thing you think about with them is a giant scandal or them cheating the game. Also. i was born abroad in Japan, but im a New England sports fan, since that's where i live whenever im in the United States. And i can tell you right now the first thing i think of with David Ortiz is what he said after the boston Marathon bombing, "This is our city"
That really meant a lot to people, people rallied behind that and it had a huge positive effect helping pick the pieces back up after such a terrible tragic event. Maybe you dont feel that way about it, especially if you didn't know MLB cleared his name when It came to the steroid issue and you dont remember the marathon bombing that clearly or it just didn't affect you much being a fan of other teams from other cities. But "This is our city" is without a doubt what Ortiz is most known for and it was such a heroic thing to say and his participation and helping out after the tragedy was huge especially for someone who was adopted by Boston rather than born there or drafted there. the MLB writers are much more plugged in and so they obviously knew his name was cleared and they definitely observed the respect and love Boston Sports fans had for big papi and how his iconic statements and actions after the bombing helped the city recover. That statement simply was, well. Iconic. Much like Bonds with the PEDs except in an extremely positive way rather than an extremely negative one. Ortiz was also part of the historic moment of the breaking of "the curse of the great Bambino" which was a thing a lot of older Red Sox fans believed in and got a lot of media attention back in the day when i was a little kid. about how the Red Sox hadnt won a title in 86 years ever since trading away Babe Ruth. Even though ruth basically had all his greatest success in Boston as a two way player, and he basically turned into just a hitter soon after leaving. Which would be like if future goat Ohtani left the angels and started hitting only almost right away lol. And won multiple championships both places. But yet was still somehow more known for playing in the second place rather than the first despite his historic two way seasons lol. But still, Ortiz was also there for that historic legendary moment of breaking the 86 year championship drought by winning that world series ring. In fact Ortiz won multiple world series, hes a multiple time champion" all with the red sox. Wheras Barry Bonds doesnt have any rings. So winning a world series cant be one of things people think of first when it comes to Barry Bonds like with Big Papi's multiple titles. Ortiz is just an iconic boston Player heavily associated with the team and city and embraced and loved by it. Thats what people think of when they think David Ortiz. No matter where theyre from. As baseball writers that's what they're going to think. Another possibility is the way Ortiz almost literally died recently from being shot multiple times, in a random act of violence, but he was rushed into treatment and recovered in Boston and lived to see another day. So maybe at a stretch that could be the first thing someone thinks of with Ortiz. And with that maybe they feel spooked that Ortiz almost lost his life to something random like that, and want to make sure that such an iconic boston player lived to see his induction into cooperstown. Which he is definitely deserving of. So yeah lol, that's the difference i would say

You can take all the PEDs in the world and strike out every time you walk up to the plate you still need the talent and skill to do the things these guys did, they absolutely deserve to be in the Hall and anyone who says otherwise needs to wake up because there are plenty Hall of Famers who were taking/using things that would be considered peds or banned substances.

In my opinion Curt Schilling is the biggest snub on this list. Dude has the best Strike to Walk ratio Since the Live Ball Era began in the year of 1900. He is part of the first pitching duo to hit 300 strike outs in a season (2002). 6 time all star was an ACE of 3 world series teams 1993 Phil, 2001 Dbacks ,2004 BOS and contributing member of 4 world series teams 1993 Phil, 2001 Dbacks, 2004 and 2007 BOS. He posted 3 seasons of 300 plus strikeouts 1997, 1998 and 2002 with 2001 finishing with 293 and finishing his career was the 14th player to reach the 3000 strike out mark and 14th at the time on the all time strikeout list one behind Gibson. Curt placed in the top 5 for Cy young voting 5 times with 4 of them being 2nd place by the way to other Hall of Famers like Randy Johnson.
As stated in this video Schilling posted an 11-2 record with a 2.23 ERA in 19 post season starts. Between the 2001 and 2002 post seasons Schilling pitched to the tune 55.1 inings, 3 complete games and an ERA of 1.14 (Remember these are against the Cardinals for 3 starts, Braves for one start and the Yankees for 3 starts non are pushover teams, Yankees were the three time defending world champs. 2 of the complete games were one run pitching duels with Matt Morris where Schilling came out on top. Schilling would also share World Series MVP and Sports Illustrated player of the year honor with co ACE Randy Johnson in 2001. (If you are standing on the same stage as Randy Johonson doing anything...Hall of Fame just saying. I haven't even got to the bloody sock yet! I am getting there! In 1993 Schilling was named NCLS MVP despite not earning a win because both games Schilling pitched the lead was giving up by Mitch Williams the Phillies closer at the time. Thats how dominate he was in the post season.
Now Schilling started 5 post season win or go home games (Elimination). Schilling record in these make it or break it games is 4-0 with Schilling teams wining all 5. 1993 Game 5 against the defending World Series Blue Jays Schilling pitched a 147 pitch 5-hit Complete game Shutout wining 2-0. The Blue Jays would win game 6 ending the Series. In 2001 Game 5 in the Division against the Cardinals Schilling and Morris had their second pitching dual in the desert with both pitchers pitching till the end with Schilling getting the win again after the Tony W. walk off hit in the 9th ended the game 2-1. Game 7 of the 2001 World Series is the only Elimination game Schilling did not get the win, giving up a 2nd run in the 8th and leaving while the Dbacks were losing. The Dbacks ended up wining the game in the 9th. The last game on this list A.K.A The Bloody Sock Game, Game 6 of the ALCS. Schilling had to go through surgery to stabilize a tendent hours before the game at Yankee stadium Pitching 7 inings giving up 1 run and 4 hits keeping the Red Sock dreams alive. In each of those 5 games Schilling Pitched 39.1 inings pitching at least 7 inings in each start never surrendering more then 2 runs in those games. For comparison Randy Johnson who also has 19 post season starts (Same amount as Schilling) numbers do not match up no Comparison Schilling was far better in the post Season.
In conclusion as stated in the video Schilling WAR is almost 80 are you kidding me. If Schilling is borderline with WAR of almost 80, The best Strike to Walk ratio ever in the History of LIve Ball ERA and all those post season accomplishments. Kick out 94 percent of the HOF now. P.S Schilling did all of this in the steroid era of Bonds, Sosa, Meguire and many more without using Steroids himself. Schilling did not cheat at all and because of this Schilling is the biggest HOF Snub

Baseball was on the verge of becoming irrelevant to the fans. Pitchers dominated the sport and you sat through nine inns to one run game. The thrill, the excitement was no longer there until Sammy Sosa, Mark Mcguire and Barry Bonds exploded onto the scene Suddenly baseball was once again fun and entertaining. Viewership shot up as the people wanted to see Barry Bonds hit a monster home run or the home run race between Sammy Sosa and Mark Mcguire. That was an incredible time money was rolling in record numbers to the MLB and the owners.
The most important and forgotten point is that those players were excellent players before they allegedly used performance enhancing substances. They had no need to use those substances.

why do ppl assume because Bonds was smaller that he wasn't taking stuff to get there? Why do people assume that Steroids started in this "era? You realize steroids were a thing in other areas far before that "era", right? I personally think they should all be put into the HoF, BUT I also don't think that the lighter stance we have taken on Steroids is helpful today. I played high level baseball 15-20 years ago. The number of young kids dabbling in PEDs was shocking. It seems like we have decided that PEDs aren't a big deal anymore and I'm telling you right now it's widespread even more NOW in sports and just the young generation as a whole. That's not a good thing. You need to understand how deadly these things actually are. And, no, not all of us were "enjoying the show". People trying to compete in the sport and didn't want to kill themselves with DRUGS weren't "enjoying the show". Made me hate the sport.

He had his moments with the media and famously a dugout phone. But for the most part he was a likeable guy. Clemens and bonds were not. That's why they're not in. It's wrong especially when you look at the history and all of the terrible people they let in. But they don't like how smug bonds and Clemens were, not just during their careers but with their ped use. They haven't even really admitted to it. Had they come out and apologized for it, I think they'd have a chance to get in at some point. A rod probably getting in. Pettite might've gotten in if his numbers were a little better. They admitted to some of what they did and weren't blatantly arrogant all of the time. I hate this sanctimonious shit. All of the white ball players who played before 1947 had no control over that. We’re not putting asterisks on them. A lot of those white ball players likely would’ve welcomed playing alongside black players. This false equivalence needs to be put to bed. For instance, Dennis Rodman weighed 210 lbs at his early playing weight, and 228 at the end of his career.. 18 lbs of muscle.. Some people can easily put on muscle mass.. The clear, whether Bonds used it or not, was not illegal at that time.. When they started testing for the clear ( Bonds tested intensely) Bonds did not test positive and still won the batting title with an avg of .362, past what we consider his prime.. Tom Brady has put up MVP numbers in his late 30's, early 40's..

Restore Aaron to the all-time homerun champ and return the season record to Maris. Then put Bonds in. Maris had to live with an asterisk next to his 61 for the rest of his life.

Honestly, in my opinion NONE of the steroid guys belong in the hall of fame, BUT I feel that Barry belongs in there the LEAST and I'll explain why. All of the other steroid guys used it because they wanted to compete with guys like Barry while he used it because he didn't want to have to compete.

Baseball handled it like the clueless 3rd most popular sport, and too too much in game down time.
I loved baseball, but i got to point of, cripe sake stop rearanging uniform one hour after each swing garbage, i saw so many other fans like, im not coming anymore and wasting day for a few/handful plays that are exciting to sit thru other 3hrs of "purist, out of date traditions" players had too much time on there hands and developed gotta do all this crap so im not jinxed, just got weird

Everyone in the comments section could take roids and NEVER make it into the hall. Furthermore MLB knew they had a "problem" with steroids and did nothing to stop it.

Historians love bragging about 1941 but would DiMaggio and Williams have accomplished what they did if the had to face Satchel Paige more than once?. Remember there were fewer teams back then.

All of the old baseball players would have been average today, the game has moved so far. Babe Ruth would maybe be like Prince Fielder
