Your being disingenuous the guy was so good that people literally wouldn't kick the ball towards him it got to the point where teams were squib kicking on the kickoff if the kicker couldn't send it out the endzone he had such a big impact on the game teams would rather the bears start at the 40 then give hester a chance
Ur mentally challenged obviously you don't know football at all
hope that your merch is better than your take on this. With all due respect, you're out of your mind.
@@diseasedpanda7418”the guy was so good” LOL yes let’s continue to ignore how good his blockers were as if he himself created all these touchdowns and he’s as valuable as the entire offense (when given the ball) and the offense starting at the 40 makes any noticeable difference (and that’s not a for sure effect he had either) towards points scored. Cordarelle Patterson solidified himself as the best KR ever in an era - where not only are people smarter than ever but players hardly ever get kicked to anymore - WHILE maintaining a roster spot (actually in a few different positions on offense)
@@diseasedpanda7418so does Patterson deserve to be in the HoF? Cuz you know, if you say no you’re already nullifying Hester’s argument
I could support Hester's return game if the Hall actually cared about special teams. But when you have a half dozen worthy kickers and punters sitting at home without a jacket it kind of kills that argument.
Lechler, Landeta, and Sauerbrun all have at least double the argument for the Hall that Hester does.
“The Hall of Fame didn’t respect special teams, so it shouldn’t start respecting special teams.”
....So why not argue that those punters and kickers should get in.... instead of arguing that Hester shouldn't? it's not like it has to either or

Hester getting in over Reggie Wayne and Antonio Gates is insanity

And Torry Holt
Him getting in over literally anybody is insane
And Jared Allen, although im.more annoyed about Freeney for that one
the Antonio Gates snub is insane
I mean I don't care if hester got in, but the fact he got in INSTEAD of gates is a travesty. In most other years, gates would be head of the class easily, and is still the greatest non-QB to ever not win a superbowl.

Especially when Hester had a td return in their 1 super bowl appearance. He did his job.
The narrator is all over the place. We all know there's someone who's not in the hall of fame and it's the guy that's crying in the video 😂😂😂😂😂.
It's valid when you consider the fact that if he was in fact so good as a player that didn't play every down, then why not change that and make him play more often? If he was hall of fame worthy, why couldn't he have been a wr or cb?
@@JoeSchmo747-t2cso did Jacoby Jones and did more then Hester in that super Bowl and was a better WR he ain't gonna make the hall of fame

Cordalle Patterson better start tailoring his jacket now
The goat returner
Duh. He's better than Hester at a harder thing

Using win-loss for devin hester is stupid. People don't do that for lineman or pretty much any position outside of the QB which is wrong IMO anyway.

@@dtube441Yeah, but he was doing that because players with championships are viewed as better than they are and that the argument is he left an impact.

They use WAR in MLB constantly. NFL needs to catch up and use better metrics especially when the career stats aren't really there
no super bowl win means you don’t help your team apparently
Nah it’s the fact he was a absolute non factor on offense and only rarely (although more than most) made a real impact on special teams
The man returned the opening kick in the Super Bowl. Tony Dungy wanted to kick it to him, he even said so and look what happened. The video is weak. No one wanted to kick it to Hester thus his yardage is going to be lower than other guys.
@@4149stonepony you can’t avoid kicking to a kick returner only the punt returner and only to a certain extent
@@4149stonepony Had how did that work out for the Bears? Yall make it seem like Hester changed the game because he scored 1 td.
@@Filler113 Hey if you want to be obtuse Andy Dufresne be my guest but, It worked out good, Hester was electric and nobody stepped away when he got was returning kicks. He was the greatest, the Patrick Mahomes of kick returners. He was amazing and I can tell you did not see Hester the way bears fans did. We got to watch him terrorize other teams. But you know that, cognitive dissonance is a thing with the retarded.
I think the point being missed here is that teams would scheme for Hester every time they played the Bears and would quite often purposefully just kick the ball out of bounds rather than risk a big return. The Bears weren’t good so he doesn’t have the wins and rings but he single-handedly change the entire game plan of opposing teams just being on the field. And STILL ended up with the most returns of all time. Can you imagine his numbers if the opposing team actually kicked it to him every time?
I know this has nothing to do with the HOF, but does no one else remember Hester in Madden being a cheat code basically? Sure, send your backup safety downfield at him. That’s BBQ chicken bro.
The Hester effect was a real thing at one point in time. Context is important here.
Bo jackson should be in hall for being a cheat code in the techno bowl .
Finally a rational thought
Right like after he returned the opening kick in the Super Bowl the Colts just squib kicked the rest of the game. Not Hester’s fault the Bears had Rex Grossman as their QB
Still doesn't belong in the Hall.
Never knew when a kick returner had to do all the work and play 3 sides of the field every game. Blud wants him to carry the team on his back💀💀💀💀💀
He came in as Db and as he started showing his explosives they would also put him at wr at times
This means Tucker is a Hall of Famer too
Well I mean he is....
That’s one of the few takes I don’t agree with that Barry has…if you are the best of all time at a position that’s in the NFL you should be in the hall of fame
Adam Vinatieri is the highest scoring NFL player of all time and Barry doesn’t think kickers should be in the HOF because they don’t do enough to impact the game.
Not just Tucker. Tucker plus like 9 other kickers. Goskowski and Yepremian at the very least.
Kickers should be hall of Famers. But they’re the only special teams exception
Barry you have to look at it as a special teams selection, not offense or defense.

Definitely so, but and Im a bears fan but over Antoinio Gates.
Its when we start comparing him to other players that it gets sketchy.
HES NOT EVEN THE BEST KICK OFF RETURNER 😭😭😭
The disrespect towards special teams 😭
Can you hold a debate with Issac Punts?
All Barry would say during the debate would be "Hurr durr not every down"
I at least kind of get it when a player has another, more highly valued job on the team that he's below average at, but kickers and punters don't have that. Their job IS special teams. By this logic, Aaron Donald shouldn't go in the hall of fame because he isnt logging offensive snaps. Patrick Mahomes shouldn't go in the hall of fame because he isn't logging defensive snaps. The "every down" argument falls apart when you hold it under scrutiny for like 5 seconds and I don't know why Barry is so committed to it outside of being terrified to admit he's wrong.
Devin absolutely deserves to be in the HOF. It also absolutely brings joy to my heart to hear people like you get so triggered by it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thank you for giving me a good laugh and letting me bathe in your internet tears !
as a fan of returners and the bears with hester being one of my all time favorites, this rubbed me the wrong way but once i realized he made it in over reggie wayne.... yeahhhh not ideal
And Antonio Gates
He was the greatest at his position hands down. He deserves to be in Canton
Bro just hates the bears😭😭
He hates Chicago in general. Ever see his infamous Michael Jordan rants?
Dude was the best overall returner ever. His impact to the Bears was undeniable to anyone who actually watched the Bears play. Based on your statistical argument than literally no one besides QBs should be in the hall of fame because there are below average QBs who had more touchdowns than Jerry Rice. If you’re the best ever at your position, then you belong in the Hall Of Fame. Period. This isn’t surprising though considering Barry’s previously stated bias against Kickers and Punters being in the Hall of Fame.
there's not a single QB who has scored nearly as many touchdowns as Jerry Rice, actually.
Hester getting in is absolutely laughable
Why does it matter if we watched the Bears play or not? We know how many games they won during that time and like barry said, 55% isn't some incredible number. How many games did Hester actually flip from a loss to a win. Given that we're talking about 20 total return TDs in his entire career I would guess not that many. Definitely not anywhere near someone like Reggie Wayne or Hines Ward, Boldin, etc.
@@jesse8458Ryan Tannehill and 45 other qbs have more touchdowns than jerry rice

He's right, though.
in the nhl, you don’t make the best 4th liner a hall of famer
Reggie Wayne and Gates should be inducted, but saying Hester shouldn’t is blasphemy. Teams would squib kick the football so he wouldn’t get a return. That’s on the same level of double/triple teaming Aaron Donald on every play.
I completely disagree.
Returning kicks and punts is the most dangerous of all NFL professions.
The Hall of Fame actually needs to give more recognition to specialty players.
Billy "White Shoes" Johnson should be inducted as well.
Joe Jacoby is not in the hall of fame.
Undrafted but ends up going to 4 super bowls, winning 3, protecting 3 different starting QBs, blocking for 3 different starting RBs, in the process but hey, he’s just a grunt in an unfashionable position.

It’s sad that he is forgotten
@troubledjoe finally someone else said it. he should be first ballot
The NFL changed the return rules move the ball up so the ball would go out of bounds. Which affected Hesters return opportunities.
I can understand both sides of the argument. However, I think it is cool to see that some special team players get some appreciation, too. There is no denying that devin hester made many awesome plays for the bears and really had an impact on the outcome of games. So y doesn't Devin Hester not deserve to get in the HOF? Who has more punt/Kick off return TDs? And look at the shitty Chicago Bears teams that he was apart of. He is in the hof for special teams, u don’t see people bringing up Payton’s throwing stats just bc as an 3rd string qb he threw a couple of tds, look at Butkus wins vs losses
I’m glad there’s someone to say it. I was arguing with about 50 idiots last night. In order to believe any returner could ever be a hall of famer. You have to believe the delusion that return yards and touchdowns are worth 10x more than other yards in touchdowns. Because that’s the only way you can justify their lack of on field impact. A guy catches the ball off a kickoff instead of catching it/getting a handoff and suddenly it’s different. Hester has lowered the standards of the hall of fame. And that’s a shame. If Hester doesn’t return the kick in the SB he would be on par with Dante Hall, another guy who’s obviously not a hall of famer.
Believe it or not, kick-offs and punts are different plays than offensive or defensive ones. Is it really too controversial to say that the greatest returner in NFL history should make the Hall of Fame?
@@dumbinfp7951 Absolutely yes it’s too controversial 😂. Believe it or not, returners are still running with the ball. What makes their on field impact 10x more valuable than the rest? That is literally the argument you’re making if you’re on Hester’s side. That since it’s special teams it matters more. It doesn’t. Hester has stats comparable to Nelson Agholor 😂. But since it’s special teams I guess it’s more important. Offensive and defensive stars don’t play special teams because they’re too valuable to the team. They stick backups on special teams because they couldn’t give less of a fuck about them. And some stars start out on special teams (Tyreek Hill) but stop playing it when they become useful to offense or defense. If that doesn’t tell you special teams players are significantly less valuable then you might wanna check for brain damage.
@dumbinfp7951 no no, only half right. Greatest PUNT returner of all time. Not kickoff returner.
@@dumbinfp7951 When should the best long snapper of all time make the HOF?

Game changers are in the HOF because of their impact to the game. If you think it's only based on stats, then the first 50 years of players don't belong.
I dont disagree with your takes too often but I do disagree with this one.
You are making a false equivalence fallacy. Comparing a Punt returner (Hes known for that) to TEs, Wrs etc. Getting field position and winning position battles are a huge part of the game.
He is totally HoF worthy due to his impact at the position. The hall of fame should be for people who were best at a certain football position. Hester is defiently up there.

In defense of the "value" of a return td over a regular td, is the level of difficulty plus the number of touches.
A wr with 15 td in a season usually has tons of targets/receptions over a kr's number of returnable touches.
Strongest argument against Hester is the only reason he has the returns record is that players that likely would have beat him were only given limited attempts due to them actually providing value elsewhere
Deion Sanders, Tyreek Hill, Tim Brown, Desean Jackson all could have put up better return numbers if they were full time returners

My biggest takeaway from this video is that Reggie Wayne and Antonio Gates aren't in the hall of fame.
He's one of the most electric players of all time, became an integral part of the history of the NFL, and the league specifically changed the rulebook to neuter his ability.
Sorry, but the no special teamers stance in Canton is nonsensical, and while I agree with others that there are other deserving players that should be in, STer or otherwise, that doesn't diminish Hester's inclusion.

As a Chicago Bears fan...let us have this one. It's already depressing enough to be a Bears fan.
You do have Julius Peppers and Steve McMichael in tho… but yeah Hester deserves it too
My issue with Hester is there were other guys who were excellent returners but were much more useful on offense. Did Hester really have a better career than Eric Metcalf when Metcalf had more scrimmage touchdowns than Hester had total touchdowns?
On a related note, do yall think that Matthew Slater will make the HoF, and should he?
You COMPLETELY missed the mark on this one..and the reasons you cite are completely tone deaf. There's so much more to it than that. When you have a threat like hester it changes the whole game, the entire a way a team plays you...where your team starts its drives and how many points you score. When he played for the Bears they were almost ALWAYS guaranteed the ball at mid field to start their drives. And teams spent so much time worrying about him and scheming for him it altered the game in a way that was historical. Hall of Fame is about impact and those who change the game and during their careers and hester did just that.
Hater. Hester was a generational player
There are so many worse hall of famers
Subpar take from Barry tbh. Return touchdowns are much much harder to accomplish than receiving or rushing tds. Not familiar with Barrys history with Devin Hester but he is 100% deserving of the induction and every pro player would agree so
using his receiving stats when he is purely being inducted as a returner is just plain stupid tbh
Hurr durr not every down
huh@@JohnDoodle69
It’s not just the touchdowns but the starting field position from either a simple 15/20 yard return or a team kicking it away, basically netting you an extra 10-15 yards closer to midfield. For every opposing punt you can add an extra 10-20 yards and call it receiving yards.
Also it was hilarious when teams would just kick the ball out of bonds.
@@JJ-zr6fu Bears in 06 were tied with the Colts in points scored at 427. Compare and contrast the Colts and Bears player stats on offense. The average starting field position is how a dynamic offense scored as many points as a lackluster Bear offense netting 5.3 yards/play.
Are you sure a defense which gave up 15.9 PPG and dominated the NFCs best offense that year, New Orleans, outside of one fluke reggie bush run wasn't as or more impactful?@@chicagodude8888
yeah but he had 100 speed in a video game that one time
Hester finished his career with 14,455 all-purpose yards and 37 tds with 99.9% of that production coming against guys buried on a depth chart as special teams defenders. There are guys waiting to get in the hall with 15k yards and 60-70+ tds against 1st string defenders. That is what’s hard for me to rationalize.
This is everyone's point, he's not even the best statistical returner ever. There's just so many other dudes who have had a way bigger impact but media gone media.
Hines Ward should be in the HOF
Special teams' spots in the HOF should be strictly reserved for the elite of the elite placekickers (Tucker, Vinatieri)
Ray Guy is a bona fide HOFer.
Yep and Devin is the GOAT at the returner position. Teams constantly kicked the ball away from Hester only fools messed around and he would get'em. He was a joy to watch and cant wait to see him in Canton.
Bro forgot Joe Namath. Are you serious. Devin Hester definitely deserves the induction. There are WAYYYY worse players in the Hall bro.
Trash argument
I disagree, he broke primetime's record, it took a long time to break that, plus no one cares about special teams to til he came along, most teams have bolo this dude everytime.
i’ve never heard barry more animated and passionate about anything ever lmao
