This is all the pitching the team needs. Matt Blake can take whatever prospects or dregs we dig up to add and build middle and late relief. He built a good postseason pen last year out of practically nothing. This year, he's starting with a good product and just needs to improve it from there. But they have giant holes in left, 3rd, and 1st. Could add a 2nd baseman and move Jazz. That's still a lot of needs to fill. And that's with Volpe as a mediocre hitter at short and relying on a softmore Wells and rookie Dominguez. There's a good chance Jones sees some serious playing time this year too, just because of the number of spots we need to fill.

I'm not against improving defense, but the 5th inning were errors by guys who normally make the plays they botched. Improving the offense is still more important, IMO, the well documented problem is there aren't any good options left.
If Durbin can hit .260, walk a ton, steal bases, (his specialty is stealing third!), continue his clutch hitting, and NOT strike out!!! like his stats have shown, the Yankees have traded away a key puzzle piece as to a player who was always "in the mix". I’m a red sox fan so correctly disregard my opinion as much as you want but I think losing out on Soto was good for the yankees at that price IF they continue to go scorched earth to make their team better as they have done. Lineup is still weak outside Judge, Jazz, and maybe Stanton and the farm system is awful but will win the division unless O’s or Sox add more.

The plan is to take advantage of the real opportunities to improve the team based on what the tide from this offseason has washed in. That includes frontline pitching and relief pitching which are plentiful this offseason, fills important areas of need and that is exactly where the Yankees have directed their attention. You get better where you can. You don't force Hail Mary type transactions that we almost always come to regret in the near future because the circumstances were way too risky. This is not an offseason particularly suitable for parachuting in a replacement for Soto and truthfully we don't really have the tradable assets that everyone else is craving. I would've rather seen the Yankees sign Tanner Scott then trade for Williams just because one involves only money and the other trade assets. But I've been saying that I believe the bullpen is a great place for the Yankees to improve so I'm delighted to see it. We lost Game 5 because an overworked Weaver couldn't hold the lead. Imagine if we'd had Williams for that 8th or 9th inning? That plane flight back to LA may have materialized.
