Produce Like A Pro is a website which features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.
What would you use this amazing piece of gear for?
EVERYTHING!!!
I love my TAM Creme. It lives on my main bus. My go-to chain is the Cream, Compression to EQ, into a TAM VTC. It also works great on a drum bus and on the vocal bus for me. The EQ can add some air when setting the High Freq to 24 KHz and add boost a few dB. Opens up the vocals so nicely. The new option to go up to 200 Hz on the side chain high pass, to have the settings stored to recall and to automate parameters inside of your DAW is stellar!
I lost a lot of masters a while back and have a ton of material only in mp3 demo mixes. This seems like it could help save them from the dust bin.
@@MarcBecker_Music but we got too this Full 200 hz SC or I'm wrong?!
@@EDDuro we've got a three way toggle switch with 60 Hz, 120 Hz and Full position. If I have missed something, please let me know my friend :-)
This is the future.
Yes, great to see Tegeler adding this to the Creme, it's been on many other models but this is welcome bonus!
If someone puts this technology into a whole console it will be in every commercial studio in the world. Can’t imagine we’re super far off from seeing that either which is amazing
I see this being the future of outboard gear to finally marry analogue with digital. It's amazing how things are advancing now. Give it ten years and the market will be abundant with such outboard gear, fun times ahead! Tegeler stuff is beautiful.
I’ve had it for a couple weeks and it’s insane!!!! The eq is so good! I had 2 warm eqp’s going into an audioscape bus comp which I really liked but this just sounds better and the recall is the best part. Before I would hesitate to change the eq cause I hate recall but now I just do what’s right for the song. I love the audioscape bus comp btw!!!! It’s just on vocal bus now (which is freaking amazing!). Finding myself using less plugins on the vocal bus now. I also started tracking and mixing thru the Zulu from handsome audio and my mixes have never been better! The Zulu is so sick! I barely have to DeEss at all now. The Zulu right before conversion is just so nice. Boosting high end from the creme or my bax eq into the Zulu just makes me wanna cry.
Thanks Warren! Love everything you do!
I remember earlier videos on this, and other Tegeler products. I feel like, if I ever get to build my own studio, this might be one of the first pieces of "modern" gear that I would want to have in there. It's an amazing idea, beautifully executed (as far as I can see from here), and I've heard nothing but phenomenally good things about the company and their equipment.
This will be one of my next purchases 100%. Looking forward to finally have it!
This is amazing! What a great time in history to be making music! We have unlimited tools to work with. Thank you!
I agree! We are very blessed indeed!
Absolutely INSANE!! I'd still be playing with the knobs within the app while watching the actual unit. Great stuff Warren, thank you for the vid and insight!
holy woah!! That is amazing!! Did you notice any latency with automating with a higher buffer size or anything like that?? Truly amazing, this is the future!!
Very smart product from Tegeler, always amazed what amazing gear the future brings to us 🤘Great review !
Fantastic! Thanks ever so much!!
I'm the main piece of analog gear in my chain. Cheers Warren!
I'm going to head the band wagon that more hardware gear with automated / digitally recallable settings, I'll be more inclined to get.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
The next step in the evolution of the "hardware plugin" would be to have multiple instances across multiple tracks, of course, with full automation and saved settings. Now wouldn't that be fantabulous, but for now, this giant step forward will satiate my appetite...OUTSTANDING!!!
Fantastic. This is clearly the way forward for Professional engineers/producers yet it's the opposite to what a lot of people ask for. They want the tangible aspect of hardware. If I was building a studio nowadays this type of product would be near top of my list.
I may be wrong, but I believe you can move the physical knobs and the plug-in reacts to those moves as well! Not completely sure but I think so… worth further investigation I reckon!
We also have this unit and it is amazing! The CremeRC is next generation, next level technology and we love it! - chaz
Thanks ever so much Chaz!!
Yes Tegeler makes incredible gear.
Hi Scott, yes, they do!
@@Producelikeapro hey I'm working my way thru the Ultimate Mixing Rock course and I have learned so much my mixes already sound better than ever!!!! I have to thank Produce Like a Pro for that.
You Sir ROCK\m/\m/
Other thing I got from this vid was to remember how awesome ' Valerie ' is as a song.
Yes! Amazing song and The Zutons are a great band!!
Really fascinating! Interesting to learn things like this so fluently and abundantly with so much content! Awesome!
Thanks ever so much!!
@@Producelikeapro You are absolutely welcome!
This so freaking awesome looks like magic. It’s so great that you can automate analog gear. Thank you so much Warren for this video I always wanted to see how it works because I don’t have any of analog equipment yet so always have been interested in watching how it works in reality. You are doing the best stuff for us :)
My Lexicon Mx300 has something similar. The pots don't move they are just rotary knobs. But the readouts do correspond to the plug-in and vice-versa. Very useful tool. And they could always go with the digital readouts and rotary knobs on budget line models.
I love the Tegeler Audio Products, only this one is missing in my studio.
but soon I will definitely buy this one, but first renovate the studio and then upgrade the hardware.
Tegeler Products make it so much easier and the sound is also super great.
AMAZING product and technology, Vielen DankTegeler! Wish there was a giveaway as well lol
That was awesome! Definitely want to try it sometime!
This is very impressive piece of gear, I would have undoubtedly music for absolutely everything,Drums/Bass down to Mastering .
Automation really brings the Magic !
Cool song.
Thanks ever so much!!
this is SICK! I wish they made the EQP-1 with fully digital control as well. That'd be killer.....
so nothing to do with this post, but i bought some Lolas based on your review!! and just wanted to say thank you! omg! so good,,and for the money the best cans around..i have moving pictures on and its like a new album after all these years, Thank you warren. Ive ALSO bought a pair of Focal shape twins now..lol
Hi Warren, 3 feedbacks on this product which is clearly a nice step forward:
1) you tried to control the hardware version with its software version but does it work the other way, moving the real knobs with a direct impact on the software version? It's a nicer user experience than using the boring mouse. ;) The best workflow is working on the 2 ways, depending on the workflow we want to use at a specific moment.
2) You evoke automations but the control of the hardware version by the software version on the DAW seems to not be ultra responsive: a quick and drastic knob move on the soft takes more time to be done on the hard... which control the sound so the automation may not be exactly what we decided on the DAW. Do you confirm that?
3) Still about automation precision, we also see the latency between the soft and hard versions: does it mean we have to mesure precisely (and alone) this latency in order to do the compensation in the DAW on the track having this plugin version? I know that on some MIDI clock devices like the E-RM Multiclock USB you find a way to be sure about the (MIDI) sync of the DAW with the other MIDI machines using an audio track (dedicated to this MIDI synchro) so I think here it's something to think about, using audio or something else. In order to improve once again this remote control of hardware gear. Thanks from France
Great video, thank you Warren. By the way, the first review video of the Cream got me aware of your UA-cam channel back in 2017.
Thank you - you just answered my question to how to get around the usb issues
Very cool! So much great gear out there, my heads going to explode.
Love it! Smart smart guy and this might be my first outboard gear to use through the ext. insert in my dangerous summing box
great for staying in the sweet spot while using it
Looks like a cool product. One observation: I noticed when you restarted the session, the Ratio knob went all the way to 10 when is was set at 3.5 previously. Anybody else catch that?
That was just the way the edit was done. Eric removed a piece sorry if that was confusing!
Awesome concept!
One question, if you want to automate the unit, can you write the automation by using the knobs on the hardware (Like if you do volume automation with a faderport or such device)?
I cannot hear the difference in high end when it is engaged or disengaged. But I like the low end that it gives.
UA-cam isn't the best for high frequencies unfortunately!
Love it!
Take my Money$$$$$$$$$$$$ Looking in to it now!!!!! Excellent review as always Warren, I've been looking for this technology to start up. Thank You.
wow
The servo's and motorised stuff in that would add a lot of money to the unit cost. It might a better idea to have a blank face on the hardware and have it all controlled digitally via the plug in, without paying for the motorised gimmicks. Like Bettermaker and Wes Audio do, in a different ways. I don't like the idea of paying a premium for motorised knobs on an audio unit, I'm looking for sound quality and digital recall ability. I'd also worry about the shelf life of all those motorised pots and what it would cost in maintenance.
Hi Chizzul, the 'extra' charge for the fully recallable function and motorised rotary controls. It's easily the best sounding combo of SSL Compressor and EQ! Check out my review video:- ua-cam.com/video/cIJv1tiKfps/v-deo.html Yes, I know Wes Audio, I was one of the first to review them and helped them get into Vintage King, big fan! Some people will love this feature, you may not though! The motorised pots are on many other units they make and don't seem to have reliability problems, it's an extremely well made German product which they offer insane warranty on!
@@Producelikeapro OK, it's an extra €500 for the RC version, which, in all honesty, I 'd rather spend on a higher spec sound wise compressor or EQ. Just my opinion. Out of interest and no problem if you are or not, but are you financially affiliated in any way with Tegeler?
@@chizzulwinduh1941 did you watch the video? I'm not sure you will be able to spec a better combo at the price. Can you tell me what Compressor/EQ you believe is better? (they ship you the unit for free to try and don't have 30-50% markup from a dealer) I always highlight what I believe is the best in it's class for the price! I have no affiliation with Tegeler beyond really liking this product!
@@Producelikeapro Yes, I did. If you like it, that's good enough for me! You seem to prefer it to your actual Pultech's and SSL Buss Comp. I don't think you're saying that it's the best possible Stereo Bus EQ and compressor ever and it is better than all others are you?
At that level, I suppose it's what you prefer, rather than "better", which always seems a redundant adjective when talking about different high spec gear, as one will sound great on one track and wanting on another, and different again depending on the listener.
Takes a while for the pot to fully rotate, like at 5:28 (put the release on auto). Might make automating big moves a bit tricky.
Wow, GAME CHANGER!!!!
It would be cool if someone took the next logical step. Make a multichannel black box with no physical controls. It seems like they could make it more affordable for the home studio. Seeing the knobs move is cool but how much would you use it?
Exactly this.
This is voodoo 🎩💀🐓
Wow!!🔥🔥🔥
This is crazy!!! Amazing!
What a brilliant piece of gear, but brings up the question of it opposite. Have you done a video on simple controllers. These days I'm just doing bedroom recording, and would love a single fader to automate inbox effects. I saw exactly what I wanted once... It was an April fool's gag in Instagram. Perhaps you've already talked about it?
Check out the Presonus single fader Faderport. I use the Faderport 8 and I can automate any plugin on it. Excellent piece of gear by Presonus. Good Luck and Happy recording !!!
I have dreamed of this for years, as has anyone who has gear without detented pots! If that could be part of a "new 500 series standard". 500.1?
It's pretty darn amazing!
500.1 is an amazing idea
Have you seen the Wes Audio ng500 stuff? They've made that standard available but so far it doesn't look like anyone else is on board :(
Pretty Curious about what the 'Cream' release setting sounds like!
Yeah! That's a new addition!
According to Tegeler, "We revised the classic auto mode because music has changed over the decades. For even firmer bass and fresher highs, we used our experience from the gravity machine and designed the cream mode together with some Berlin artists. Pushes, pushes and bangs!"
Faster then basically?
@@frankturner3000 Not sure tbh. "More open and punchy" is how I read that.
Hi Ed, yes, I've been playing with it for quite a while and absolutely love the variation!
What if SSL or Neve Or API or any other large format console companies used this technology to recreate thier famous old products using the exact parts from the old ones, just adding this technology over the top.... that would be the ultimate console for a hybrid studio because it would have the full functionality of a digital studio just running everything through everyone's favorite analog equipment
Wonderful!
" LOOK AT THAT !!! " Lol !!
so can we get the "old" creme than for less money - just kidding. Very nice video!
I dont understand what is the connection for the remote control . There s some adaptator for thunderbolt and usb. So , that mean that it goes out from the Creme in USB and it goes in your laptop in thunderbolt or this is the opposite ?
It uses an Ethernet connection!
@@Producelikeapro Ahhh ? Ethernet ? That is strange !!
@@Producelikeapro So there's an adaptator ethernet to thunderbolt or ethernet to usb ?
Thank you Warren for your answer ! ;)
@@relaxmax6808 You can use an ethernet switch. Pro studios use ethernet for all kinds of things.
The first company to put this technology in a console will be in every major studio in the world. I know SSL does it with the faders on the duality, so we’re probably not super far off. Too bad it’ll cost more than 2 houses
this is REALLY interesting!
Thanks ever so much!!
I've been wondering for the longest time why these have not been a thing. Maybe because the analog knob twiddlers on gearslutz don't want solid state control so one has to make it with these god damn motors instead of doing it the better way (digital control of analog amplifiers).
But yeah... if this makes them happy and they want to pay the money for that, i'm not judging... :D
Wes Audio and Bettermaker have been doing this for a while now, with plugin control and recall
@Nick Noize but all the analog purists would start to yell at the gearslutz and it wouldn't sell...
"MAH KNOBS!!! MAH ANALOG SOUND!!!"
god damn it...
@Nick Noize I believe McDSP have a box out exactly like this. It's anything but cheap though as it does a lot of things. Even still, the majority of the cost doesn't lie in the knobs or motors anyway.
great, thats the way it must go... having the hardware somewhere in your studio but you remote it from your sweet spot working place Anyway I have a question... the hardware needs time to follow your settings in the DAW.. because the motors, that have their speed.. or is it really realtime...
Is the plugin strictly for control? Also, Warren, love that you have what appears to be an ADA MP-1 in the rack behind you.
Warren! 😁
What pc screen/monitor are you using?
I love the way pro tools is displayed
When I have my tracks set to “micro” I see less tracks than you do (also de width ofcourse)
If anybody else knows the exact model I’d love to know!
I always appreciate your videos, Warren. Your channel is informative and classy. But those ads that keep popping up at random times are very annoying. I understand this is a UA-cam algorithm thing and you have nothing to do with it, but it really distracts us from your high quality content. It is unfortunate, to say the least. Keep on the good work, though!
Hi Warren! Great video and great product! How would you say this fairs against the WesAudio products like the Dione and Prometheus? They seem to follow the same ideology of blurring the line between analog and digital.
A pultec EQ with no option to cut as well as boost the same frequency simultaneously.. doesn’t that defeat the purpose if you can’t do the pultec trick?
Hey everyone! I just purchased a Tegeler VTC compressor from germany and it just came in today. I have a few questions that are urgent so I can use it! First, It came with a euro power cord. Can I simply switch this out for an amaerican power cord? It also came over with different fuses by default. Which fuse should I buy so it work? I've already switched the voltage to 115v, but I am afraid to try and power it on without the first two questions answered. Can someone PLEASE HELP!!!
Does this mean I could avoid having to hear all the digital navigation of the console, until I was ready to save the settings? So I could only be hearing the music, while I was tactilely adjusting the levels with the physical interface? Then I could come back the next day or week and have it all snap back into place by using the screen reader as usual to navigate to the file and open it, turn my screen reader off and go back to just using my hands with the music? That's what I would like to be able to do all the time. 😌
The next step. An exact emulation of your piece of kit, in the plugin , so you can walk away from the gear?
Is the release fully variable?
Did they fix their headroom issue?
Hi Warren, would this be the only hardware you put on the mixbus most of the time? Or would you typically need additional (parametric) eq and / or compression?
Can you connect it to your PC via USB for plugin control?
Hi warren! I just watched your QandA but thought i’d comment here as it’s most recent upload. I’m in my final year of a genetics degree but know i want to go in to music and audio engineering. I do a lot in my spare time but i’m limited by lack of formal instruction, do you have any advice on how i could get some experience in a studio as a 22 year old postgraduate??
I want one !!
Been to the Tegeler website a few weeks ago when is was released (RC version), no option to order or a price anywhere. Just revisited.. still don't see it (under the English language)..
Now imagine this would have a Dual Mono mode...Mid/Side mastering would be possible...
I would buy a Konnektor just for this
If you move the knobs and press the buttons on the hardware manually does the it also change in the plugin?
dose it work on every outboard gear what if they aint make a plugin of a certain gear
Hey do you or would you provide a service for us new to becoming a engineer? Could you offer a service where someone like me could reserve 30 or more minutes of your time to go over our mix. Once we complete, you or other colleagues go over our mixing and mastering so you can point us in the right direction. Maybe we're using compression incorrectly or hitting the reverb or Saturation too much. Or simply boosting an eq when should be cutting. Not to do the mix but point out where there's something possibly wrong and ways to go about fixing. Thank you and love your videos.
Warren, how the hell do you clean your studio? Seems like a lot of work 🤔
♥♥♥♥♥
Aaaaand a giveaway? ;)
I hate stepped pots. The setting I want is almost always between them. f-k them for recall too, it's recall of not the best setting. The best recall is print the track! Then you always have it. This Tegeler thing seems cool though. I think more companies should make analog gear that can do what this Tegeler does. Having it be motorized is neat but I'm fine with matching software like ams-neve.
“The best recall is print the track! Then you always have it”
The point of a recall is to be able to make adjustments to the mix. You can’t do that with a printed track. A bounce of your latest mix is not a recall. Lol 😂
@@ilikemyrealname you may be laughing at me but im laughing at you. I re-print the INDIVIDUAL tracks through compression and eq to NEW tracks. No one said anything about a bounce of everything through one comp and eq. All volumes and send fx effects come from the computer. Then i come out again for summing.with faders at unity gain. The only thing that gets touched on my board or neve 8816 during summing is panning. This is recallable for the kind of things ppl want to change in a mix which is volumes of tracks or reverb amount. I can always put a plugin eq on for a little tweak over a print. Ive never had a client say i want to change the compression. Because all faders are at unity the mix is exactly the same because the recall is the computer daw project. Its not faders that give a board summing magic. If i want to move physical faders which i usually dont care about, i have a separate 24 fader surface.
@@housebandthexenos2569 Lol Whatever your long winded reason for “laughing at me is” I will never know because I am not wasting my time reading this rant. Good luck with your career. 👍
any plugin similar?
It's an SSL G bus comp with a pultec clone... so take those two in plug-ins and they are similar (in functionality) whether they sound as good is another question! Try Softube Tubetech EQ + BX_Townhouse compressor for example, that's the same thing as this hardware give or take.. but they won't sound exactly the same (I don't know if worse but def a bit different)
"You're fulfilling all we want to believe about Germans". Wow. :D
god... the music in this video is so cringy. worst band i ever heard. cool gear tho
Music is great your obviously young
