A headlamp is life changing.
I wish we were able to record our work when I worked for the local gas utility as a tech.
I worked on thousands of millivolt systems back in the day and I would remove the generator wires off the valve and put my meter on them with alligator clips. Light the pilot and hold the knob down and read it once it peaks. Anything less than 500 mv and I replaced them. 600mv is the minimum I like. Lots of times the pilot burner was dirty and the flame weak.
Ideally you want to test them under no load. Pretty much only boilers and old gas conversion burners and fireplaces use pilot generators now where I am but they are a science to themselves ( almost ). LOL.
Invest in a head lamp. One of the best purchases I ever made. Fenix has good stuff
When it comes to headlamps and lanterns and flashlights, the stuff fire departments use is top shelf.
I've had Fenix, Ptec, Coast, Energizer, Petzl, etc. My go to one right now is a Klein 56048, USB chargeable with great runtime and only 3 modes with no goofy strobe function. Next choice would be the Streamlight Enduro Pro USB, only 2 modes and up to 48 hour runtime which is more than double the Klein I have.

50 years ago efficiency wasn’t a consideration. The cost of the fuel was cheap enough that the added cost to improve efficiency might not be recovered assuming that energy prices remained low. Once energy prices soared, efficiency became more of a big deal.

Great content. My only advise would be to clean the pilot orifice out be it by blowing on it or trying to brush it out a bit. There should not be any yellow tipping on the flame. A yellow tip means something is slowing the gas down out of the pilot. You’ll get better flame impingement on the pilot generator in turn getting better millivolts out of it. Most of the time, just having proper flame characteristics can solve most of the cases like this. Keep up the good work!

I have found it a good idea just to put a bit of anti seize compound on the threads before I put the new thermal couple and or thermal pile just in case your the one that gets called new time it goes or the next tech appreciates it for sure. It makes it come out a lot easier.

I’ve noticed something on this video & also on other videos. There are always wires running through raw edged holes in control chassis & other devices. Is this common practice in the New England are or what? I used to always carry 2 or 3 different sizes of either plastic chase nipples or rubber grommets in my tool bag. Always used them when replacing controls or working with wiring. It can prevent call-backs. Something to think about.

I am not trying to troll. Your videos are good. Though I don't think you're supposed to remove the pilot light, it is an electronic ignition device and not a traditional pilot.

Every connection in the pilot circuit should be clean (clean)clean.
The burners probably lift out from the front and twist.
Clean the pilot,check the thermostat connections for gang green???
