When buying a watch, apart from those who need a watch with a specific function for a specific activity, most people base their decisions on how a watch looks first of all don't they? Based on that criteria alone, given that the SKMEI is roughly 10% of the price of the Casio and appears near identical, it's a clear win for the SKMEI. Of course, no-one would realistically expect the SKMEI to be as hardwearing or as accurate as the Casio, but is it really worth ten times the price? Especially as for most people the loss of two seconds a day isn't a catastrophe, while if they ever found themselves 51 meters underwater I doubt the waterproofness of their £10 watch would be their prime concern. As the owner of more than 20 G-Shock squares as well as this SKMEI myself, I'm surprised at how good the SKMEI is - especially when I consider the cost of manufacturing both watches must be similar (even taking into account the likely differences in material costs of parts used). So is the Casio overpriced? Or is the SKMEI underpriced? In my opinion, there's a market for both - but price doesn't necessarily reflect value for money.

@@watch-highresSkmei actually has some very original designs. 9266,2209, and 1903 just to name a few I know. People just don't buy who review them imo. I think that's why they rely heavily on their homage watches. 1623 as well. Kinda want that one, it's original as far as I know.

@@watch-highres I don't mind homage products at all. Just wanted to point out that Skmei does have some original products. That watch you reviewed is cool, I like the auto repeat timer function. I have a Skmei 1988. I like it, it doesn't have that feature though. I'll wear original brands too. I just wear whatever watch I want to. Just got a Skmei 9288 and it has the prettiest blue dial, it's insane! I bought it because I thought the bracelet looked so nice. The links are so thin! No gaps, and it's solid. My opinions on watches are pretty complicated, it would take pages of text to explain haha. Wear what ever watch you enjoy.
I bought the skmei 1628 for 7€. Its great watch, the only thing I dont like about it is the display, the display is not the best but honestly for 7€ its all good
I have two skmei in my collection and for the price they're excellent surprisingly robust and both have a backlight that you could see from orbit.. Excellent beater watches when you don't want to ruin your nice casios or better watches..

Gshocks are meant to be beaters, withstanding rough use.
@@jain-wt2ou I like keeping my gshocks in good condition.. The fact you can beat them up doesn't mean you have to.. Rolexs are also designed to be tough watches worn in all conditions but I sure as shit wouldn't climb a mountain wearing one..
for the price these Skmei Watches are great!!! just enjoy it...don't think too much.

@@watch-highresActually skmei watches are pretty durable for reasonable use. Not as strong as g-shock series but still they are though watches
1628 is almost perfect, except that the button is only plated, and turned color copper over time.
That's why I like the buttons on the 1988. They are just plastic, but don't fade over time.

You did good on the video. I however think the G shock DW5600 is unbeatable for durability, quality and overall build. No question. The Skmei is just a look alike. A lot less money of course but there are reasons that the G shock more money. They don't call it G shock (gravitational shock) for the hell of it.

I just hate it when ppl act like they're superior to Casio, when they're not.
Having stayed in Thailand for 3 months I can confirm this. I have a Sanda watch that I love as well as casio. Skmei is popular here as well, Sanda and Skmei I recommend if you just need a good daily that doesn't need to be rugged.
For the price the 1628 is brilliant value for money.

I can't think of a better watch for the money, especially with the extra variety in colours with the skmei
I got one with standard display (not inverted). Wearing it when I'm fixing the car or in the garden.
Plastic shourds from G-Shock fit it so if one wants change colour to more bright like red or yellow.
I've added strap adaptors (not a fan of silicon, rubber straps) and wearing it on 22mm elastic two-piece strap.
Also oil filled it so it have more than 200m water resistancy.
Hey, does filling oil in your watch cause it to leak from the buttons? Or at least when pressing the buttons

I bought one of these for £2.08 on sale, really looking forward to trying it out for myself... The strange thing is I'm interested in a lot of these copies despite the fact I already own 22 G Shocks of all my varying favourites!
I bought this exact Skmei for about 4 dollars as a welcome deal. 1,5 dollars was the watch the other 2,5 dollars for customs tax:) All the functions works, green backlight is awesome. You can't even read the brand name if you don't have eagle eyes. I just want to see how durable it is. If it keeps up well for some time I might order some other models for fun.
I have a gw 9400 but, at the same, I bought a skmei 1628 with negative screen. I love this watch: simple and nice!

I have this watch and I like it. The only thing I don't like is that the light turns on every time you reset the timer. The timer can be set in seconds too!
The timer is a must for me.. even on the Apple Watch is my #1 feature I use the most... but I wish the light didn't turn on because I use it in the gym. Also, I wish I could turn off the beep sound when I go through the modes.
There should be some compromises for ten times of price 😊but I agree with you these are important even samsung or xiaomi and amazefit cheap smart bracelets does great things with small prices so these things should be there
My favorite G-shock is the G-2300. Also, the G-7710 is great about design and functionality, I ordered it recently online, can't wait!
I really admire the skmei range and have accumulated a few as the price allows me to buy more. One thing I will say is that the strap on the skmei is for me is head and shoulders above the G shock, so much so I forget I'm wearing the skmei half the time. For the price, the skmei is very tough to beat! The backlight is also superb. I do like how the buttons are more protruded on the skmei also. After growing tired of smart watches and having to recharge them every few days I decided to get a digital watch. I wanted a countdown timer as that was one of my favorite features of the smartwatch and figured I would be able to pick up a cheap Casio watch with that feature. I was shocked how expensive a good looking Casio with the features I wanted was. Through dumb luck I stumbled upon a cheap Skmei watch that ticked all my boxes and I don't regret getting it.
Similar stuff happens to new generation because smart bracelet models does everything for any digital watch. Amazefit smart watches have very long battery life if you want to check and they look classical digital

I find that the Skmei movement accuracy poor enough to be abit annoying if you're using it to take public transport regularly. Its good enough for casual sports where you're just using it to time your runs.
For this price and days of smartphone precision I guess we can accept SKMEI but like you've said its not superb accurate

got the skmei 9288 ( PRX homage) got shocked by the product quality. It was too good for the price. One of my friend said that it literally looks like a 200$ watch xD. Now ordering this skmei 1628 . Exactly this one with the negative display . Hoping for the best
I have a couple of SKMEI watches. Before owning them I would see them on ebay and Aliexpress etc, and completely write them off as cheap junk. They really aren't junk at all. They're very good quality watches and much better value than Casio, who sell great but some very - but not all - overpriced watches.
Casio had created the psychological value of that particular design into consumer's mind through marketing strategies. Without the original model, you would most probably not pick up the SKMEI unit, which is clearly a copy of the original Casio G-Shock.

Look. I’ve had a skmei watch it was a copy of another watch. Yes it looked good but was a bag of shite. It didn’t have the functionality of the original nor the quality. This is a copy of a gshock of which I own many. I have owned one which I wore everyday for work for over 20years with no issues except battery changes. I rarely wear it now but it is still working beautifully. I doubt a skmei will last that long.

I got the blue skmei yesterday....I love it! My only problem it's a bit small, does anyone know can I get a watch like this, same shape etc but about 2 in in size?? I'm a bigger guy, I love a huge watch....just wondering do they make big watches with this style? I have about 40, and never came across a really big one this style.

Bought Same Design Skmei but With bluetooth for more functionality like a time sync pedometer , I do not use functions such as call and SMS notifications. And they also have more numbers, but no date. The quality is exactly the same, I'm very shocked.
I also love gshocks and I think SKMEI is bringing quite a bit of watch for its price range.I hope you enjoy your watches👍

I hate the negative display i have a g-100 ana/digi g shock and it was always difficult to read off the black display in any amount of light. I also have a dw5600 basic square g shock but i choose with the regular light screen and i love it so much somehow i just always want to wearing it everyday. That skmei junk isn’t worth anything in my opinion since i hate fake or counterfeit products. I rather buy a basic or modest version but at least i know it is what it should be. Take your genuine g shock to any brand service facility and they changing the display for you for a small fee.
You need to get the positive display version of it if you want a more legible display, and the reason the light on the fake is brighter is because it’s a LED instead of glow, the glow is better in the dark.
Why would the glow be better in the dark? If one is brighter than it should stand to reason it's just as much brighter in the dark too

@@mason4354 I wasn’t saying the gshock is better in the dark than the fake I was saying that the glow in general is better in the dark and that it doesn’t look bright in the light. Obviously the led is brighter but it also is blinding if you use it in bed at night.

The biggest shock to me is that fakes are so popular.
The reason why G-SHOCK's belt is hard is because it acts as a cushion to absorb the shock when the belt falls to the ground with the bottom side down.
The purpose of dimming the lights is to reduce battery consumption and extend battery life.
The reason why the buttons are difficult to press is probably to prevent malfunctions.

You know about watches. So you can compare. My problem is with people who don't have knowledge about casio watches.
Casio is very concerned about copy products, and has recently been selling a cheap casio model that imitates the shape of the G-Shock.
It's still good enough, but for example, if someone were to say, "I'm fine with a copy. The Casio's lights are dim, and the buttons are hard to press. It's not a very good watch," I think that would be sad. :(

Ive stopped buying Casio because since Covid, they doubled and tripled prices in UK. So I stopped and have just now started buying Skmei knockoffs

Yes skmei has the better lighting. I have the skmei jamesbond model and the casio jamesbond model looks ridicilous compares with skmei

You can't compare a skmei with a gshock. Gshocks are proper go anywhere watches, I have the 1628 it's great fun but has plastic screen which will break easily, enjoyable but slightly misleading video
I dont agree I wasn't comparing it on durability if you watch the entire video.Have you been making pressure to your g-shock until the point of break when it was on your wrist. Lets just be real near 60-75 percent of people are not living extreme action level of their g-shock and I've seen lot of fat not fit people choose g-shock because it is colorful and big not because they live at extremes similar level with their g-shock.
I bought the Casio & the Skmei, I returned the Casio. The Skmei strap is definitely better, the buttons are far easier to push on the Skmei which I think is desirable, the light is better as you said. I would take the water resistance with a grain of salt, who in their right mind would take a Casio to 200 meters, only saturation divers go that deep & when you take both of them apart the build quality is very similar. The one thing the Casio triumphs over the Skmei is in time keeping, the Skmei loses about 5 seconds per week, the Casio module is much more accurate. You can beat the Skmei to bits & if it breaks buy another as they are so cheap. Great review

@@75dt21Build quality is definitely not the same, and Casio actually tests their water resistance to ISO standards (which costs money), unlike Skmei. The buttons being more difficult to press is annoying, but that's literally part of the G-Shock core design. Strap comfort is very subjective, but also not a big deal as these are easy to swap out. You're entitled to enjoy Skmei, but don't act like Casio is objectively worse.
60-70% of it is made in Germany, the strap and bezel, the module is made in Thailand, non of it is made in China
I would pay 15-20 USD for 100 water resistance and stainless steel buttons.

Neither of these two is good for me. I can't see the time at all. What is the purpose of a negative display? You only have a plastic bracelet on your hand. I had a Skmei and after a few months the buttons didn't work anymore, I guess dust got in underneath and the time is became unusable. The second thing is that the battery weakened very quickly. And they are very cheap, so you can take another one when one fails. There is some logic. The third thing is the strap, which broke just as quickly.
İf you are pushing the limits of a strap than you are a G-Shock person I use Diver watches for that reason most of my collection is about diver watches becase they are way better than digital watches when it comes reading time and style in a combo pack
