Thank you, Derohana! 🙏 A big-brain viewer has cracked the code below on how SKMEI have implemented this “feature” 😂 Latro (@mcallery) below discovered that it’s merely lighting up in correspondance with one of the digit segments on the LCD! A truly ‘quick and dirty’ solution by SKMEI 😜
I had a Skmei with such a strap and it was comfortable to wear, but it didn't last long, just a couple of months. Suddenly it just broke even though there were no signs that it was cracked.
The G shock DW 5600E has also the date feature in the alarm mode and the auto repaet feature in the timer mode you turn it on the same way as the Skmei press the light button in the timer setting to turn on the auto repaet , the only thing the Skmei has more than the G shock is the dual time mode

Thanks for weighing in, ThatSillyNoob! 🙏 Agreed - it looks like they felt obligated to include it, and couldn’t quite figure out a good way to utilise it without actually adding the required feature 😆 By the way, a brainy community member cracked the code of that blinking pattern below! Check out the comment by @Mccallery (Latro) for his explanation 👇😁
I had this and a DW-5600E-1 at the same time. I really wanted to like the original g-shock but it didn't work for me. I use the stopwatch and timer a lot when working out and the buttons on the original square are terrible to operate. The Skmei is also lighter (30 grams vs the g shock 50 grams) and I can wear it looser while it still grips my wrist very well -- much more comfortably than the g shock which moves around a lot. I really can't believe it, but I do preffer the $5 skmei over the $50 g-shock. The g shock did feel more polished and visually it had better branding, and how actually shock resistant the Skmei is remains to be seen. However overall I do prefer the Skmei, which is incredible for the 5€ I got it for.
Incredible!! 👌 It’s definitely lighter… and speaking of light, that BACKLIGHT TOO! 🤩 Thanks so much for weighing in with your experience, Dan! 🙏 The value of this watch is truly undeniable.
Ill tell ya one thing, I bought a SKMEI 1134 larger size overall, and I LOVE IT - its the size I like as its much easier to read and its the first and only sport watch ive ever had that had the extra length to fit my 8-1/2" wrist. I always have to resort to adapters and NATO bands which is ok as I like NATO bands but I shouldnt have to - its not just the casio sport watches its many many other type and brand watches that do not fit larger wristed folks - PLEASE get a clue manufacturers and add another three or four holes to your darn straps--!!!
Good stuff, Yambo! 👌 A friend ordered the same one not knowing how big it was - and also fell in love! 😂 I’m delighted to hear that this big-boy has got the strap length to cater to your wrists! I hear you my man. Why not have more size options, like with everything else!? That would be the best way to do it IMO - interchangeable straps (included free with each watch). That way you could expand if needed, but yet the strap wouldn’t have too much overhang on a smaller wrist. Listen up, Casio! People want to install a strap that suits their wrist best 👌
@@yambo59Cool idea! 💡I’ve seen a similar innovative concept for zip ties recently - ones that you can “twist off” the access length after it’s been tightened. I wonder if there might be a way to integrate this into Casio watch straps without compromising their strength 🤔
Very Interested to see that genuine bezals fit as have a plan for a full metal G replica have an old square replica I was going to use but a new watch would be better and somebody once told me it's pronounced "Sekmay" but most peeps say it like you do! Have two Skmei squares but they're much larger than a 5610
Yep! Like honestly, this compatibility is pretty huge news, right!? It basically opens up doors for people to experiment with affordable modding, without having to risk Genuine Casio parts, and then potentially do the 'real thing' once they're confident enough 😊 So THAT'S how you pronounce it! Thanks for letting me know. Cheers Paul! 🙏
@@goatreviews I found the Skmei strap much more comfortable than the strap that came on my DW5600 so I swapped them around. They both fit each other though the spring bars on the Casio are a bit bigger than the Skmei so they are a little tight to push in. It's been almost a year and the Skmei band is still in perfect shape.
Oh dear - That's not a good sign@@arrivingarriving5166! It looked somewhat similar when I dropped the lens on top briefly, but we will have to see! There's only one way to find out 😎
What a fantastic question, Oleksa! 🙏🤔 I don't know the answer.. But I did plan on trying a Lens swap - So I'll try a button swap at the same time, for you! 💡
Me too, Edwin! 💯 I must admit, I prefer the buttons to protrude a little bit more than Casio does, and the SKMEI has the button length quite good 👌 I’ve not noticed them losing their colour or becoming brass like! That’s for alerting me to this 🙏
that symbol, on a Casio at least, means the back light will flash with the alarm/hr chime. you can see this on the DW290 for example. as to why it flashes, not a clue. seems like a cheap watch thing to me. or since it was lacking the feature they have it there purely to copy aesthetics and have it flashing randomly. either way loved the vid :)
Cheers for the info, Latro! 🙏 That makes sense. You're onto it! Since the alarm causing the backlight to go off isn't a feature of the SKMEI (At least not that I found), it seems they might have converted that 'Symbol slot' to just be an 'eye catching display', kind of like some of the little circular gauges you see on Casio's that light up in a pattern as the seconds tick by. Still though, it would be interesting to know the algorithm behind the seemingly random 'Blink Pattern' 😛 Thank you! Glad you liked the video! 😄
@@goatreviews IVE FIGURED IT OUT! the pattern at least. the symbol only comes on if the middle segment of the last seconds digit is active. must have been the simplest, and cheapest way to get some animation like a Casio
YOU ABSOLUTE BRAINIAC!! 🧠 Well done @@mmcallery 🙌 Watching it now to verify… you’re absolutely right! How did you manage to make that association?! Hahaha, you’re bang onto the “why?”. 😂 It was probably an easy-to-program solution which (evidently) provided mystery and intrigue 😁 Thanks for solving the mystery, my friend! 🙏
@@goatreviews I was just thinking about it, what would be the easiest and cheapest way to get a pattern like that? best way would be to use an already existing pattern somewhere on the watch, so i figured it must be linked with a segment on the seconds... and as it turned out that was the case... also hope to see a toughness test of the SKMEI some day
My SKMEI had super soft straps like yours, they were amazing. Didn't own it long enough to test the durability of it but it makes me wonder why Casio for example doesn't use these strap materials. Also, I'd love to see you attempt that lens swap.
The comfort is surprising, right? It's making me consider using the straps on other models 😜 Yep, that's my main concern too. Durability LONG TERM. I suspect the reason Casio uses the more rigid material is so that it will last longer. If it came down to being pulled with great force (or even a dog chewing the strap), I think the Casio would come out on top 😁 Thanks for the support, Gummi! I'd love to try the lens swap too. We shall see how it goes! 🙏
Hi Afif, great question. The water resistance is rated for 50 meters, so it should be fine to go swimming in! I showered while wearing the watch each day for over 1 week without any issues 🚿👌
Good idea,@@bddb! 💡 Luckily I have my new Dremel Tool that could help with this if needed 👌 One thing I’ve learned the hard way is that the seal around the screen lens is THE most important thing for the water resistance. 😁
@@goatreviews yes, I saw the video where you learnt the hard way 😔 Maybe by hand will be better than using the dremel. I think that you should sand only a millimeter or maybe even less
Skemei got a loud alarm because the resin case and the backplate are very thin. When you press the 3 buttons at time it is for screen test, that way you can see if the lcd is in a good shape. The little simbol on gshocks is the flash alert, when is activated the light flash every hour, with the alarms, and at the end of the countdown timer
Fascinating! That would explain the volume. Thanks for the info on the flash alert for G-Shocks! 🙏 As I learned in a comment from Latro (@mmcallery) below - who ‘cracked the code’ - SKMEI uses this symbol very differently! They’ve simply tied its function to a single sub-section of the “seconds” LCD digit, so it ‘blinks’ as the seconds change. 😂🤷🏻♂️
Hahaha, great suggestion, Arriving! 😆🙏 That sounds dreadful, though would be an excellent test. It's chilly enough these Winter Mornings in Australia right now! 🥶
@@goatreviews It must be so, the Casio disappointed me; I bought quartz ones for my father; they constantly lagged behind; in the end, after numerous repairs, they were lying around and did not work at all.

It’s a cool feature to have! 👌 I thought it was random too, but then a viewer cracked the code! Check out the comment below from Latro (@mmcallery) who worked out the pattern 😁

Thanks for your viewership, and the recommendation, Saadmaan! 🙏 I do own a SKMEI 1299, but haven’t had the chance to open and test it yet. 😉 Looking forward to it!
I know, right?! It’s pretty blatant. Like clearly all of the moulding is copied 1-1, since all the parts fit together perfectly 🫤 The rules and regulations in China are very different to our own - and pursuit of action internationally may be a challenge for Casio. I imagine it’s on their radar, though! What do you think? Thanks for weighing in, Laltro! 🙏
As long as they don't use the trade marked "Casio" label/logo and if Casio never registered the actual design then it is legal and even then all Skmei has to do is add an extra slot or indentation on the casing then it's legal !
@etow8034 yep, absolutely. 💯 I’ve seen some truely HORRENDOUS clones that take it too far, and actually claim to be a “F-91W”, as seen in my ‘Attack of the Clones’ video: ua-cam.com/video/7t51u2TtqEs/v-deo.html But SKMEI is actually doing the right thing, and making a name for their own brand, and making their own improvements to iterate on the classic Casio design.
Poza tym same plusy.
“The People’s Watch”! I love it! 😂🙏 You know, in terms of features… you do make a great point!! I will say though - the SKMEI is bigger and thicker than the F-91W so that might put some people off. Anything else you can think of that the F-91W does better? 🤔
@@goatreviews I guess that's mostly it. The F-91 I tend to forget is on my wrist, the chinese square is still in the mail, so I can't comment, but I doubt a G sized anything can wear that easy. We also get CASIO quality control, I'm sure it's far more likely to get a deficient watch from SKMEI. Not that I have any evidence to back this up, but it's a safe assumption. I also had a problem with my strap wearing out and breaking on a F-91, this seems to be a much thicker plastic and likely a non issue on the SKMEI. Fun beater watches either way, both of em.

1:1 G-Shock external components copy.. completely without shame… Yes, as user “mmcallery” said, that “star” icon enable flashing the backlight with the alarm. I don’t know if works in this Skmei, but probably they copy also this function from Casio. Is still available in DW-5600’s module. I have it in my 1998 G-Shock DW-9000. Anyway, good and fair review, I can say now that the battery is less of 50% of the total value 😂
Absolutely SHAMELESS, right? 😂 Honestly, it is hard for me to get past the fact that they are BLATANTLY copying G-Shock with almost all of their design and features... But to remain unbiased: It’s simply an undeniably GREAT-VALUE watch. Great point. Based on my experience with the watch, I could NOT get the backlight to activate during alarms - So my assessment is that this symbol is purely 'Cosmetic', like some of the circular gauges you see on DW-6900's that simply indicate that seconds are ticking by. I do still wonder what the 'blink pattern' is though, as it's not as simple as 'on and off every second' 🤔 Hahaha, thanks Fratellini 🙏😆 I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and can see why it may have value to some people 😁
@@goatreviews I agree with you about the interesting "blink pattern", it's almost as though it WAS in the process of being designed to perform a function but either it was a failed function or development was stopped.

Ciao amico bel video.
Hi Mediaplayer! 👋 Thanks for your feedback 🙏 This is a fair assessment. There is a trade-off between price and longevity! But I am not one to judge - Some people will prefer the G-Shock, and others would prefer to pay much less for the SKMEI, even if the quality is not as good. Everyone has their different needs 😁 Wow!! 🤯 I am shocked to hear that the strap broke without warning. Would you please advise which part broke specifically? Did the strap snap, did the buckle break, or the springbars? Interesting about the 5 minutes lost within a few months, that is not something you want to see!
A friend ordered the same one not knowing how big it was - and also fell in love! 😂
I’m delighted to hear that this big-boy has got the strap length to cater to your wrists!
Maybe a longer strap from same material that could be cut to shorten it-?

It basically opens up doors for people to experiment with affordable modding, without having to risk Genuine Casio parts, and then potentially do the 'real thing' once they're confident enough 😊
So THAT'S how you pronounce it!
Me too, Edwin! 💯 I must admit, I prefer the buttons to protrude a little bit more than Casio does, and the SKMEI has the button length quite good 👌
I’ve not noticed them losing their colour or becoming brass like! That’s for alerting me to this 🙏
Very interesting! Good stuff!!
Thanks Oli! 🙏 It really is interesting to find out what’s inside. Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
that symbol, on a Casio at least, means the back light will flash with the alarm/hr chime. you can see this on the DW290 for example. as to why it flashes, not a clue. seems like a cheap watch thing to me. or since it was lacking the feature they have it there purely to copy aesthetics and have it flashing randomly. either way loved the vid :)
Still though, it would be interesting to know the algorithm behind the seemingly random 'Blink Pattern' 😛
Thank you! Glad you liked the video! 😄

It's making me consider using the straps on other models 😜
Yep, that's my main concern too. Durability LONG TERM. I suspect the reason Casio uses the more rigid material is so that it will last longer. If it came down to being pulled with great force (or even a dog chewing the strap), I think the Casio would come out on top 😁
Thanks for the support, Gummi! I'd love to try the lens swap too. We shall see how it goes! 🙏

What about the screen? Can we change it??
Hi DB, I am yet to test a lens swap with a Casio, but based on laying one on top of the SKMEI, it looks like the sizes might be slightly different.
@@goatreviews a little bit of sanding to the edges (if the Casio lens is bigger) might do the trick 😀
Good idea,@@bddb! 💡

One thing I’ve learned the hard way is that the seal around the screen lens is THE most important thing for the water resistance. 😁
@@goatreviews yes, I saw the video where you learnt the hard way 😔

@@goatreviews and maybe some silicone behind the screen next to the sealing rubber could help (if there's enough surface, of course)
Battery life?
I don't know for sure... But I imagine substantially less than a G-Shock, given the CRAZY backlight! 😁
You should try the alarm at 5 in the morning on a Monday in winter - I bet it would struggle to wake you then 😐🤥
Hahaha, great suggestion, Arriving! 😆🙏 That sounds dreadful, though would be an excellent test. It's chilly enough these Winter Mornings in Australia right now! 🥶

I know, right?! It’s pretty blatant. Like clearly all of the moulding is copied 1-1, since all the parts fit together perfectly 🫤
The rules and regulations in China are very different to our own - and pursuit of action internationally may be a challenge for Casio.
@etow8034 yep, absolutely. 💯
I’ve seen some truely HORRENDOUS clones that take it too far, and actually claim to be a “F-91W”, as seen in my ‘Attack of the Clones’ video: ua-cam.com/video/7t51u2TtqEs/v-deo.html
But SKMEI is actually doing the right thing, and making a name for their own brand, and making their own improvements to iterate on the classic Casio design.
Poza tym same plusy.
Hi Mediaplayer! 👋 Thanks for your feedback 🙏
This is a fair assessment. There is a trade-off between price and longevity! But I am not one to judge - Some people will prefer the G-Shock, and others would prefer to pay much less for the SKMEI, even if the quality is not as good. Everyone has their different needs 😁
Wow!! 🤯 I am shocked to hear that the strap broke without warning. Would you please advise which part broke specifically? Did the strap snap, did the buckle break, or the springbars?

Neither of the SKMEI I have tested so far (SKMEI 1412 and SKMEI 1628) have the ability to adjust the backlight duration, but there may be models out there that can!
That being said, remember, these backlights are WAY brighter than Casio models - which to me suggests they would use up a lot more battery power. For this reason, SKMEI might deliberately set the durations to not be too long 😅😂
@@marcosmarcos-d1y update, both models stay on for about 2 seconds after the light button is pressed quickly.
