I wonder if your views will change when you get your hands on a apple silicon Mac, I was going to upgrade my 2015 iMac this year but definitely waiting now 👌
The answer is pretty simple, the mobile department and the computer department are completely split.
Sure, but that doesn't really explain why the company has such different design philosophies for their flagship products. It's honestly a bit shocking.
@@marcleblanc3225 Its because they design their own processors for the iPhones, and are using Intel for the Laptops.
It's actually sad but I can understand it. The iphone is simply a more popular product compared to macs. Macs used to be their biggest focus many years ago before the iphone, now it gets barely any attention from them. You often see how they release new versions without bothering to throw an event or announcement, just put it up on the web and not give a shit. Not to mention some stupid design choices (keyboard and thermal in particular) they did with their MBP lineup.
maybe equipment supplier wasn't honest with Apple, like for example if Intel wrote in their datasheet that their CPU can operate up to 95 degree Celsius it contradict with common sense of PC enthusiast that it should be lower than that.
But that doesn't really work either.
If Apple are ok with outting in high spec chips and having them throttle, they could just make a higher spec chip for the iPhone qnd have it throttle.
I do think Linus touched on the reason though, Apple market to less tech-savvy rech users. It's really easy for someone to gloat about their i7 MacBook and hiw it has a better CPU than someone elses noteboot with another Intel chip (even if they are wrong), but when it comes to phone hardware, almost no one has any clue at all. So, since Apple make their own, they simpme make their chios 'just good enough' and leave it at that, knowing no one in their target market will directly compare their hardware to Samsungs, and if any non-Apple fanboi UA-camrs try, it will go over the heads of both Apple users and most non-Apple users.
TL;DR, Apple don't use the internals of iPhones for marketing, but do use the internals of their laptop and desktop lines to a limited degree.

One of the things i use my gaming laptop is for VJing (video mixing live at parties) macs are so trendy and in that space all the DJs are using macs... So naturally some vjs assume a mac is good for them, not understanding just how resource heavy Vjing and video editing and mixing can be, and your average dj set is an hour, your average party might only have ONE vj preforming the whole night 10pm-6am i have seen mac users vj with their computer sitting on top of an industrial fan just to keep it cool...
My laptop made for gaming has crazy heat syncs and large fans with a fan boost button for when doing hot stuff like gaming...

It's because MacOS is about a decade ahead of any other OS's user experience. I switched from Gentoo even.
@@MisakaMikotoDesu Yeah - so far ahead that it has .. oh right, no new features, lacks features others have had for a decade, and oh right - actually has the worst security but just hardly any viruses cause hackers don't even bother for such a tiny minority.
@@ABaumstumpf I'm sorry you're a fanboy. I've used Windows, Linux and MacOS about as long as any of the others. I also use FreeBSD on my VPS and home server. I thought mac's performed better with the same specs? With more optimization etc? Or is this about how certain apps are more optimized for windows?
windows is just a hulking mess tbh
Technically apps are better optimized on macs than on windows. But bc apple has been making their macbooks slimer and slimer it gets very hot inside them and they can't run at full speed, so unless you have your macbook cracked open and inside a freezer I don't think it's gonna run faster. And again if the cooling was good it would be way better than a lot of windows PCs.
Interesting. I always thought the tiny slit that the fan blows air out of on my MacBook Pro wasn't enough to get good performance. This confirms my theory.
I'm also now especially impressed with the fact that it can run DCS in multiplayer.

@@Ximme iPhones aren't MacBooks.
Its like some cars, yes they have alot of horsepowers for a few minuts but when the turbo heats up and the engine power gets reduced. Meanwhile a less powered car can maintain max horsepower for much longer without failing and even tho it makes less power just on race tracks you see often the simple cars racing and the modern cars in the pit cooling after 5 laps.
Do you think this problem with Thermals and performance overall might change with the release of their own Silicon?
Yes
You should do a LTT vs LTT employee 5-person competition, where they have 1 day to come up with a solution to cool the Macbook and whoever has the best price-to-performance solution (noise counts) wins.
The solution is to not turn it on. No power = no heating.
Should exclude thermal place replacement or both sides should be allowed to use the same thermal paste.

Your last sentence.. "They simply can't ignore the laws of Physics".... They actually tried to ignore and the AirPower fiasco happened.
That wasn't impossible, but it would cost too much to be viable.
@@LinuxIsNotAnOperatingSystem Nah the reason why they canceled Airpower is that it is actually impossible with our current technology, as it's impossible to put that many wireless charging coils together without generating an absurd amount of heat and creating a Note 7 version wireless charging mat. So yeah, Apple did attempt to ignore the laws of physics for a second time.
@@danielhu6485 They could have used exotic materials for the induction coils, a lower resistance conductor would generate less heat. Thus, costs too much to be viable. The tech is pretty straightforward.
@@chetanaik Exotic materials such as?? Copper, the material they were going to use, already has a really small resistance, so I doubt that there is a CURRENT material that could actually work. Sure, in the FUTURE, they could probably get the tech to work, but right now I simply don't think its possible to mass-produce an AirPower product.
@@danielhu6485 Silver for instance is a better conductor than copper. Very expensive true, but very easy to produce and manufacture. There's also the possibility of special thermally conductive (but electrically non conductive) materials being used to dissipate heat over a larger area.
You could also implement an active cooling system, as resistance does increase with temperature. This would probably not meet apple 'slickness' guidelines though.
The heat dissipation is easily done, but it's not really worth the price or the effort for something so inane.
Edit: "easily" done is an exaggeration, but yes can be done
Hey Linus, does the new Apple silicon in Macs change any of this?
of course they did, but Linus wont praise Apple for anything. Bashing Apple is much more clickable ;)
