Thank you for this video. I have a question. You have repeated several times that you pressurize the mini split systems with 500 Lbs./PSI of nitrogen. Does that not compromise the evap coil as most mini split evap coils are rated for 340-350 Lbs/psi? I've never heard of a system being pressurized with nitrogen to such a high level. Apart from that I found your video very informative. Thank you
Absolutely, Taddey is an inspiration. Admiration and respect to a guy who is willing to share tips tricks and experiences with all those in his sphere of influence (HVAC Brothers). Great video I am sponsored by Daikin and I love their equipment I have all the testing equipment they offer to check inverter frequency fan operation communication tests for indoor and outdoor not a lot of techs truly understand these units or even the principals of SPWM I think that more people like you should be teaching how these units work because VFD equipment is the wave of the future as far as efficiency is concerned never stop man you’re great
Wow Robert thank you so much I'm so glad that you watched this video that is so cool that you have the tools and understand how to work on these systems because you are right there are not a lot of technicians or contractors who understand or can work on them.
I work on a lot of these units. Mainly Mitsubishi and it’s awesome to have somebody who really knows everything about this equipment. I feel way more comfortable testing these sensors while doing service calls. Love what you do. Keep ‘‘em coming

I agree Keith if text spent more time on startup than they could find the problems and fix them early instead of the problems creating more problems down the road
Great video on stressing the importance of a proper installation. There are far too many You Tube videos that fail to stress how important it is to have proper flares on the tubing, doing a proper evacuation using a micron gauge and hopefully pulling the line set down to around 200 microns, using a good sealant like Nylog on the flare faces, pressure testing with nitogen to at least 350 to 400 psi and doing a leak test, and finally, using a torque wrench to torque the nuts to factory specs. I'd bet that many of the bad compressors you've encountered were failing due to the corrosive refrigerant caused by a poor evacuation that left moisture in the system, which caused the acidic condition. Some folks just have to learn the hard way.
Just started with a new company last year and I have about 100 mini splits in elevator rooms to take care of. This got my feet wet with them! I’m off to buy a 5/16th adapter in the morning
Hey I love your videos. Very helpful. I am new member and I am in need of help please. I am disabled and live on fixed income, so I tried installing a Gree mini split,Long story short. Outstanding information. You are truly one of the technicians like myself who are passionate about HVAC and obviously enjoy what you do. I would appreciate any future info on troubleshooting mini splits including the high efficiency ducted systems. Also maybe some general symptoms that a Mini split is overcharged either the sound that the compressor is making. I have been doing all types of HVAC/R work for over 20 years with a background in electronics and seriously, I am impressed with your videos so definitely keep it up.
Around 26:30 you mention water running down a wall ... caused by a drain issue. This issue can be horrendous if the installer of a multi-head system decided to link two drain pipes together before the pipes reach the outside of the building. If you blow on the outside pipe, the non-clogged drain will spew liquid and gunk all over the customers room. If you suck on the outside pipe, you might collect the gunk and water from the good head unit, but the clogged one will remain clogged. Do not allow an installer to link the two drain systems before the pipes get to the outside. You should have one drain pipe for each indoor air handler.
Outstanding tutorial. I am an Electrician & I installed 3 Minis at my home in Missouri. A 12,000BTU Aux is displaying P6 in heat mode & the indoor air handler blower is not operating. I will be following your suggestions & attempt the repair.
You are the best so far. Well done. I am putting in a used DAIKIN I traded for some work. It is a nice unit, my MO is to learn everything there is about my subject, having fun with it. Keep up the good work.
This is very helpful. We have a mini split heat pump from LG that has a compressor issue. I was looking for a contractor and a capacitor but could not locate neither. This units are very different than what I am used to.
So after watching this video and your video on changing the coil on the indoor unit, and I’m curious how much of this info in interchangeable with a Haier unit??
Great breakdown but I will stand by my view that most mini splits are way more complicated than they need to be as far as communicating and all that stuff. Just make it standard 24 v like a normal split system because in the end that's all a mini split is just smaller.
Great video. I do have a question for the masses though. I have been working on a Lennox mini split and I can’t get it to work. It’s a MLA009S4S-1P condenser. I have three wires going to the indoor unit (2 power) (1 communication?) and of course my line in. I have power at the AH, and the thermostat is working. However, I can not get the condenser to come on at all. No noise, Nada. No error codes either. Any ideas? Pressures seem fine as well. 25:00

is the best video's So Far on this type of units one question on my specific S09AF UH0 split ac unit it's information is not so easy to come by in terms of repair support info like the numbers for testing components on older LG from 2016 it's like the repair ability of a car nice plugs everywhere and diagram
good instructional and i like that you removed all the panels to showcase components but when you said i forgot to remove the electrical cover on the indoor unit for the L1 L2 cover that just not right sounds a little shady. keep up the good work but if your going to do a demonstration be prepared to show all of the components even if it is the connectors on L1 L2 just doesn't sound good " I forgot" gotta be be transparent for the new techs trying to learn dent hide anything.
Love the vid! My mini split fan turns but doesn't blow cold air. No leaks of refrigerant and seems to have proper charge. No error codes. Could it be a faulty EEV?
Hey buddy.. the most common issue were im from is El 01 comms error. Can you do a video on all the scenarios on troubleshooting and finding the problem
Hi some great info in your videos, do you have any on commissioning mini split systems? Would love to get some clarification on what to test on the electrical front, step by step. Many thanks
Absolutely a great video .Ive got this problem though. Sorry, I am a newb to HVAC so this question may have been covered elsewhere but was looking for some direction. I have a been having issues cooling with one indoor head unit. We have a LG mini split unit(Model# LMU240 ce). We have a total of two indoor units and one cools fine(artcool) and the other does not, blows warm air(standard type). The artcool blows and works fine 44 degrees but the standard one at 77degrees and wont cool. it shows the compressor is on but doesn't cool. could use your advise Thanks Jim
Hey Jim I really don't think I can give you advice through the comments that will help you the best that I could if it was over the phone. Or email but here goes It could definitely be the charge. I would turn the units to cooling and the fan speeds to high and then check the charge Then I would proceed to check the sensors in the indoor and the outdoor Then I would check the eev valve
Tad good video thank you.I Have a question, mini split lowside pressure goes down to 125psig then up 250 psig sometimes stuck at 250 psig. Could this be the EEV or compressor?
Thank you for sharing your knowlidge . Im having problems with my fujitsu minisplit . Its coming up with error 95 "Compressor rotor position detection error (permanent stop)" is this repairable ? Have you fitted any elecriq units , im thinking of buying a whole new unit and these are sold as diy install as not charged with fgaa
Great video, I am an HVAC tech and contractor who has been out of the field for years but installe(d my own split system in my garage/woodworking shop a couple years ago and just noticed this month that I was low on refrigerant but can't find a leak. Did notice in taking off the caps on the outdoor guage valves a little pressure in them and a slight amount of oil on the flare connections. Would you suggest anything other than tightening them down a bit more. The leaks are so small they are not showing up with bubble leak solution.
I am looking into buying a mini split duel zone 30 or 36btu..What brand or brands would you recommend?? THANKS I am looking at a cooper hunter hyper series and am wondering if it's a good one..I hear alot of these units are made by medai and are basically the sane.
I keep running into this problem and and I've yet to find a solution on a multi occasionally one head will start running slower not hit the higher speeds I have tried changing the inside board I mean the blower fan changing the blower motor and checking voltage can't seem to figure out a cause for one head running slow
Thanks Tad! Aloha from the Big Island! My Aura Systems 12,000 BTU won't start. It seems they've gone out of business. I do know they use a Hitachi inverter and a Toshiba compressor. Is the startup capacitor typically separate from the inverter board? Would appreciate having your email. I'm a retired Electrical Engineer.
Mini split head units have a common problem of making a loud (if you are trying to sleep) pop whenever the cooling cycle kicks in, as something inside like the blower motor housing or drip pan contracts from the temperature change. I haven't seen a fix for this anywhere online (i have a Mitsubishi that does it). The manufacturer considers it "normal operation", but it really is unacceptable, and it is a source of much buyer's remorse and difficulty sleeping for many people. You would be a hero to thousands if you could find a fix for it!
@@TaddyDigest That would be great, thank you! My unit even makes the noise occasionally when the unit is off, because of the temperature of the room changing over time!
My ac has freon, power , and outdoor fan won't kick on if fan is good is there a capasitor I can check that spins fan? I can do electrical I'm not hvac lol

10/10 would recommend, explicado de manera fácil, me gustaría si puedes profundizar sobre sistemas de expansión en Multisplit inverter, también comparto la preferencia por Samsung o también por LG
thanks for the great video Tadd! How can you tell between a locked up compressor and a compressor thats bad. I have a compfortotal mini split that has a small 5amp compressor. It tries to start for 3 seconds, fails and tries again after 5 min, it looks like the overload is tripping it off, its pulling 20 amps at start up on each leg, its 220volt compressor. the low side pressure is sitting at 230psi, with unit off and doesn't move when compressor tries to start . so i'm thinking the compressor may be shut or is it just locked up? would you try a hardstart kit on it ? the capacitor tests good on it. and it doesn't have any pressure switches on it.
I dont catch service calls very often on minis but more often than not theres a maintenance issue that causes an issue, specifically, a comm error caused by the little condensate pump reservoir that is full of water.
Hello I have a new 36k 4 zone mini split. It sends all units heat when even only one unit should be calling for it, they will all blow barely warm air. If all are calling heat they all blow hot. No zone control on heat. No error code. What could cause that issue?
Question: for a multi-zone minor split, what is the cause for one zone not to work when the others are off (and indoor unit freezes up, but when you turn any other zone on, then they both work (in cooling mode). I assume refrigeration leak but confused why it would work when another zone is turned on.
You do great videos. I am new to servicing these units. I am working on a daizuki 1200 but unit. The pressures with the unit not running are 140psi and with the unit running they Drop almost zero. Does this sound like a compressor or freon? Thanks again for the videos!
Is this list current or do you keep your current gear recommendations on your website somewhere? I'm almost a year out and working to save up about $2k to get my install gear together for this new house's rough-in. Tad I hate hearing about the problems you've experienced with Samsung hvac.....I hope I don't start having trouble with the units I have out there. Good video
Samsung had a redesign in 2020 so thankfully I don't have a lot of problems with the newer models but the older models I did have a few leaky indoor coils. I love the new models especially the quantum series now. Thank you for watching Channel Cat Chaser.
Hate to hear that L Williams Thank you for sharing this information I did sell Install and service mitsubishi before Samsung just didn't like the distributor and the knowledge to troubleshoot was not so readily accessible to me like Samsung. Thanks for watching 👀 😀
@@TaddyDigest i do install them still, in fact I put 4 in last week, but I find on 40 degree celcius plus days they get a lot of compressor overloads, and I tend to oversize my systems a bit for when those days inevitably come. Probably different environment to where you install, it gets dry and very very hot here.

It could definitely be the charge. I would turn the units to cooling and the fan speeds to high and then check the charge
Then I would proceed to check the sensors in the indoor and the outdoor
Then I would check the eev valve
Other than low refrigerant, what could be the cause of the high side liquid line getting cold. The system is only 6 months old
Great job! From Indianapolis

Thanks for your videos! I joined. I tried Samsung last year and had a bunch of issues. Anyways, keep up the great content!
Thanks for the sub!
1st I have heard of this I will definitely investigate and try wait investigate and try to find the calls and see what we can do
@@TaddyDigest That would be great, thank you! My unit even makes the noise occasionally when the unit is off, because of the temperature of the room changing over time!
Thanks for sharing. Keep them coming also can you share where to get the resistance chart.

Hey man! Gabriel from ARG here, no puedo salir de la sorpresa amigo!
taddy brilliant channel teach us how to install ductless vrf systems great content man best i've seen
Thanks, will do my friend
thanks for the great video Tadd!
Thanks, man. If your unit has a capacitor I would start there
hi i hope you can help me understand the pg motor zero-crossing code U8 on a mirage XR thank you
I dont catch service calls very often on minis but more often than not theres a maintenance issue that causes an issue, specifically, a comm error caused by the little condensate pump reservoir that is full of water.
yup your right
mostly just maintenance
thanks for watching Billy 👀 😀
Hello I have a new 36k 4 zone mini split. It sends all units heat when even only one unit should be calling for it, they will all blow barely warm air. If all are calling heat they all blow hot. No zone control on heat. No error code. What could cause that issue?
Thanks so much for all you teach Tadd wow amazing!
You're welcome my brother
Question: for a multi-zone minor split, what is the cause for one zone not to work when the others are off (and indoor unit freezes up, but when you turn any other zone on, then they both work (in cooling mode). I assume refrigeration leak but confused why it would work when another zone is turned on.
I've seen this when the communication wires are mixed up... meaning zone 1 is connected to zone 2 and zone 2 is connected to zone 1.
Daikin dual system, upstairs unit fan operates in AC and Fan mode but not in Heat mode. Downstairs unit is okay. No code for reference
You’re awesome Bro! Thank You!
Happy to help!
Can you do a video on what to look out for in your experience when the software and EEV compensate for faults in other parts of the system?
I have a video coming up this week
That shows just that
Ive been having alot of issues with Daikin Fit units, tech support is no help.
Awesopme video thankl you! Is there a troubleshooting reference guide for midea/bryant/carrier?
I am not sure but I will find out And I will let you know
You do great videos. I am new to servicing these units. I am working on a daizuki 1200 but unit. The pressures with the unit not running are 140psi and with the unit running they Drop almost zero. Does this sound like a compressor or freon?
Thanks again for the videos!
Sounds like low charge
Hi .Where can you find such a diagram?
This video was very helpful. I joined .
Have a lot more questions
Glad it was helpful!
Where are you when I call for service on my Daikin mini? I end up with tech's that I might let install a window AC!
Here in Tennessee my friend
Appreciate the video I learned a lot. I was curious do you have any videos for AAON RTU's?
Is this list current or do you keep your current gear recommendations on your website somewhere? I'm almost a year out and working to save up about $2k to get my install gear together for this new house's rough-in. My son is working on his electrical and plumbing trade certs and I'm working on the mini split HVAC per my deal with him. So I want to be able to gear up and do a test install in our current house.
Having issues with a Air Ease Mini Split. Indoor blower won’t run. Having issues with their tech support. Any tips for troubleshooting would be appreciated
not sure 😕 would need a lot more info

My 2 ton mini split is great only complain is that the remote control can't control the swing mode and it stays reading Celsius instead of feren height but still heats and cools
is it a Samsung
Absolutely great video. I have done very little with mini splits but I have a feeling I will be in the future.
You can do it! Thanks for watching my friend.
Tad I hate hearing about the problems you've experienced with Samsung hvac.....I hope I don't start having trouble with the units I have out there. Good video
Yeah I'm not a fan of them. They don't seem to last here in Australia. I use Mitsubishi and rarely have problems.
Samsung had a redesign in 2020 so thankfully I don't have a lot of problems with the newer models but the older models I did have a few leaky indoor coils.
I love the new models especially the quantum series now. Thank you for watching Channel Cat Chaser.
Hate to hear that L Williams
Thank you for sharing this information
I did sell Install and service mitsubishi before Samsung just didn't like the distributor and the knowledge to troubleshoot was not so readily accessible to me like Samsung.
Thanks for watching 👀 😀
@@TaddyDigest i do install them still, in fact I put 4 in last week, but I find on 40 degree celcius plus days they get a lot of compressor overloads, and I tend to oversize my systems a bit for when those days inevitably come. Probably different environment to where you install, it gets dry and very very hot here.
excellent video, thank you very much. Do you think that one day you could make a video about VRV or VRF, thank you
