      For US Armed Forces, Amphibious invasion is the bread and butter. So they don't invest much in mountain warfare and only have one Division (10th Mountain Div) for Mountain Ops on paper, IRL they'd struggle even in that.
      Similar to how for Indian Armed Forces, mountain warfare is the bread and butter. So they don't invest much in Amphibious warfare and only have one Division (54th RAMFOR) for Amphibious ops on paper, IRL, they'll struggle even in that.
      Military is all about the right tool for the right job. A nation's grand strategy is what decides how its military should be shaped. US grand strategy dictates control of the entire world's oceans and projecting military power into hostile lands using the controlled ocean as a base of ops. Indian grand strategy dictates total control of the Himalayas, not only to take full advantage of India's biggest natural defence feature, but to ensure no hostile force can control our water resources and invade into our Northern Plains.

      Ladakh, where Indian forces face-off against the Chinese PLA, forget the mountains, the valleys are at 16,000 feet altitude. We've got two entire Corps deployed there.
      And with the Chinese growing evermore belligerent, there is a talk of "Siachenization" of the China front. Indeed, partial Siachenization happened during the recent 2020-21 India-China standoff that is still not fully resolved. What is "Siachenization"?
      *Short answer:* When you are fighting in an area where even valleys are very high altitude, so usually you'd stick to peacetime deployment in the valleys. But then your enemy grows belligerent and in an effort to seek constant advantage, you and your adversary continue to deploy at increasingly higher altitudes on the mountains because in mountain warfare, holding high ground gives you all the advantage. Eventually you end up holding mountain tops at extremely high altitudes and maintaining permanent peacetime deployment at such unsustainable heights. This is what happened in Siachen.
      *Long answer:* Siachen is the glacier which is the highest battlefield on Earth, which lies at the India-Pakistan-China trilateral. That glacier was unoccupied and unmapped until the 1980s. Then the Pakistanis tried to capture it in order to link up with the Chinese and open a new avenue of advance into India from our Nothernmost land. So we airlifted troops and occupied the Saltoro Ridgeline on the glacier's boundary with Pakistan (Operation Meghdoot), defeating Pakistani plans of a joint Pakistan-China threat to India's North. That Saltoro Ridgeline is an average altitude between 18,000 to 25,000 feet.
      So "Siachenization" refers to how Pakistani belligerence in Siachen forced us to permanently man ridgelines at unsustainable altitudes of 18,000- 25,000 feet, an altitude at which turboprop airplanes fly.
      *The original "Siachenization" only had us maintaining a permanent rotating deployment of one Infantry Brigade to Extremely High Altitudes. So when I say there is talk of Siachenization of the China front, where currently we have around not one, but 54 entire Brigades, it is crazy talk meaning that the 1.3 Million troops of Indian Army might not be enough and we might have to increase the size of the Army to maintain such a crazy rotating deployment.*

    This is the kind of thing you simply cannot simulate for a soldier. You can simulate altitude, you can simulate heat and cold and everything else, but you cannot simulate real danger. By virtue of being a simulator, that risk is gone. The real deal, as you said, is being able to adapt and learn IN that environment, because in the field you won't have time for a practice session.

      Easy for you to say. Try asking someone who has actually taken part in this training. The mind is constantly fluctuating between these two extremes of:-
      1.) I am a proud Indian Army soldier. My nation's security depends on me.
      2.) I am tired of slogging all this gear up the mountain while chilled to the bones and drawing breaths that hurt so bad it feels like my lungs, brain and muscles will physically turn inside out.
      The fact that soldiers manage to think number 1 more often than number 2 doesn't mean that they are not thinking number 2 at all. It is just that they have insane mental fortitude where number 1 eventually wins out.

      @@AuraGamesIn Kid, my father and his colleagues were similarly reserved when they shared their experiences with me as a kid. Wasn't until I grew into an adult that I actually got to sit at the table with them where they actually have a heart-to-heart. Until they acknowledge your maturity, they'll keep feeding you the sunshines and roses version of their experiences. Try getting into their inner circle, they start talking about the dark stuff. The kind of stuff that isn't media friendly. Not only includes their actual thoughts during training, it includes the darker side, office politics and such, that goes on in the Army. Sunshine and roses version is that the Army is like one family, reality is a little different. There is utility to having two versions of a story: the idealized version ensures that people at least strive towards the ideal. The real version of the story is a touchstone, helps with introspection. Army is one of the cleanest institutions in India. Does not mean that the Army and its men and Officers are superhumans who don't even need to introspect.
      Anyways, this psychological stuff might be beyond a kid like you, but always remember: despite what you might think, Army Officers are also human. Yeah, they are mentally tough. What makes them tough is the ability to think 1 more often than 2.

    @OriginalHuman India controls the highest battle field in the world at Siachen glacier all year around. India is supposed to have the best trained mountain corps in the world.
    A lot of western countries send their personnel here to train because the himalayas are another beast. The Swiss Alps and the Andes etc have nothing on them.
    Look up the battle of Tiger hill during the Kargil war. Our troops climbed almost vertical cliffs in similar conditions to dislodge pakistani troops entrenched high up in the mountains.
    Many of them went in knowing they were not coming back. Imagine fighting enemy troops in these conditions.

    Just because India has mountain ranges with extreme altitudes and military units that's are stationed there, and/or, have fought in these altitudes doesn't automatically mean they are the best, or have cornered the market in mountain warfare. Any country can train its military to become highly efficient mountain fighters, as long as they have access to a high altitude training location. "*A physically fit soldier can adapt to the cold in about 3 weeks. The body normally adapts to a higher altitude in about 2 week's time. During the acclimatization phase, the body accumulates additional red blood cells which help transport needed oxygen."
    This is Scientific fact!😉
    Additionally "*Despite all training and efforts, acclimatization is not possible at heights over 18,000 feet, so exposure at these heights must be limited and closely supervised. Personnel at high altitudes need to be rotated out every 10 to 14 days. The Indian army acclimates its personnel over a 14-day schedule with increases in altitude at 6 days, 4 days and then another 4 days."
    Moreover: "*All experienced armies agree that high-altitude acclimatization cannot be achieved in less than 10 days. An acclimated soldier is still not an experienced
    mountaineer. Experience counts and is not gained in 2 months of training. Some armies, such as Italy's, believe that 10 years is not too long to produce a truly capable, experienced mountain warrior." (*-Ground Combat at High Altitude: published in the Military Review January-February 2002)

      We have two battlegrounds at over 10000ft and have been fighting in this terrain for over 60 years so yeah, we are among the best if not best in mountain warfare. Italian alps are a joke, no hostile borders😂😂

I mentioned "scientific fact" (that means accepted worldwide) in my comment (read the part about the human body adjusting to elevations). 3. If India has the best "mountain troops", why do they keep losing territory to China's mountain troops?🤣
      Modi and his "Godi Media" can deny these losses all they want, but the facts prove that he is lying.😉 Those high altitude roads you speak of were not built by India's mountain troops. Some are of ancient origin. While you're at it, do some research about other cultures (besides India) that live/have lived or thrived in high elevations. You are definitely, not the sharpest knife in the cutlery drawer.🤭 Certainly, you cannot be so ignorant to simply believe that higher elevations automatically equates to better troops. @LongMuyang-do5rs 2 місяці тому

      @@drdoomfanAfter the 1967 conflict ended, the four-day "67 conflict" soon caused controversy in India because India failed again this time.
      However, in order to appease the Indian people, the Indian government actually beautified this conflict into a "great victory", exaggerated the number of Chinese casualties, and promoted it domestically.
      Because the Chinese side did not enter the Indian territory near New Delhi this time, the Indians did not know how the battle was fought, so they believed the government's lies. Anyway, the Congress Party achieved its goal of using the conflict to strengthen its position.
      Behind the scenes, the Indian army has since become more aware of the depth of China's strength. In the 20 years since this time, the Indian army has never taken the initiative to provoke on a large scale on the border again.

    • @LongMuyang-do5rs
      @LongMuyang-do5rs 2 місяці тому

      @@drdoomfanAre you talking about 2020? China is not like India. We do not allow rumors to exist, especially on major issues. It is cruel and heartbreaking to talk about the casualties of both sides. I remember that China announced that four PLA soldiers died heroically. But the number of casualties of the PLA announced by the Indian media is several times or even dozens of times this number. I just hope that Indians with a little bit of rationality will believe that the reports of the Indian media are exaggerated. Putting aside the casualties of both sides. Let's look at the prisoners. No one of the Chinese People's Liberation Army was captured by the Indian army. But many Indian soldiers were captured by the Chinese People's Liberation Army, including two Indian officers. It is clear who is stronger and who is weaker between the Chinese and Indian armies. If you use your brain, you will know that if the Indian army caused heavy casualties to the PLA, would our PLA let the Indian prisoners return to India alive? No, we will hand over the bodies of the Indian soldiers to the Indian government. This once again proves that ordinary Indians have been living in false information. In 1962, if India had a little understanding of the Chinese people and the combat effectiveness of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, it would not be shocked when India failed.

    • @LongMuyang-do5rs
      @LongMuyang-do5rs 2 місяці тому

      @@drdoomfanThe Indian army is the worst army among all China's opponents. China's war of resistance against Japan lasted 14 years, the Chinese civil war lasted 4 years, the Korean War lasted 3 years, China's self-defense counterattack against Vietnam lasted 2 months, and China's border war with Vietnam lasted 10 years. India's understanding of "war" is too narrow. We Chinese believe that India has never experienced a real war. In 1962, in the eyes of the Chinese, it was not a war, it was just an armed conflict between China and India. In 1962, the short armed conflict of only 32 days continued India's nightmare for decades. What makes the Chinese feel funny is that a border conflict has turned India into a "Battle for the Defense of the Capital of New Delhi".
