The initial Para Commandos started with the remnants of the 50th Parachute (Indian) Brigade during WWII. The brigade was disbanded after the Korean War. (Which the Indian 60 Parachute Field Ambulance) took part. Remnants of these were scattered into different infantry regiments as units with Airborne capabilities. In 1952, the Parachute Regiment was re-raised with the first three battalions and a new battalion being raised. In 1965, a Major, a paratrooper by the name of Maj. Megh Singh, founded the "Meghdoot force" with the elements of those Airborne units and from the Meghdoot force in 1965, the Para (SF) came to being. By then the Parachute Regiment has two elements, the Airborne units and the SF (Commando) units.
