Can you explain the odds of the 4rd prize of Euromillions (4 numbers+ 2stars) ? They say it's 1 in 621,503 but how come? My math says its 1 in 15 million. (50C4 x 12C2)
they are correct with "1 in 621,503". You would work this out the same way in the video, using "5/50 x 4/49.. so on until your fifth number". your fifth number is a fail, therefore the probability of this would be 45/46. This then gives a result of 9 over 423,752. This becomes one variance of the 4 numbers. The variances include "WWWWL, WWWLW, WWLWW, WLWWW, LWWWW". therefore you need to multiply your answer by 5. If you multiply this by your 2 over 132, it gives an answer of 15 over 9,322,544. This is the same as 1 over 621,503 (rounded).
The accepted answer is no as no random event can ever affect another random event. If you flip a coin and it lands heads, and then flip it again, it will always be a 50/50 chance. There are some however that believe because the chances of heads (for example) always coming up is impossible, that then means the probability must be changing. The law of large numbers tells us that if you flip 10,000 coins, you will roughly get 5000 of each.
There’s a 200€ M for tonight so I’m going to play the exact numbers you chose for this example and see how it goes lol 🤞talking about being superstitious 😂
What ever where the selected numbers your chance of winning the jackpot is similar, so euro millions is just abstract luck! If you have luck to win it you will, despite the selected numbers you picked up!!! Even by probability methods still weak to help hum.
When you select random 5 numbers, then you put 5 divide by 50 left which is 18. How can 18 be correct? where does the 18 come from? you didn't say where it is come from, you just circle the number so whatever you say doesn't make any sense. Please can you explains to me very clearly by example so I will understand it better.
Sorry if I didn't explain it properly. The number 18 is just randomly marked off the coupon to show that the first number drawn has been matched. By marking off one of these five selected numbers on the coupon, this now shows how many numbers are left (i.e. four numbers are left) to match with the second number drawn. Hopefully this helps to show how the odds of winning are calculated.
@@howto...solvepuzzles it's okay but I'm still trying to understand where the number 18 come from. Does it come from the live draw or you just do random circle on those numbers? And also I want to know how do I know if the numbers I pick is wrong??
What I don't understand is that the Euromillions site itself disagrees with you! According to them the odds of getting all 5 of the main main numbers (just for example) is 3,107,515, whereas you say it's 2,118,760. I've checked and it's still choose 5 from 50 and yet your final figure to get all 5 plus the 2 bonus balls of 139,828,160 agrees with them so how come? What am I missing here?
Good question. I had a similar question about USA Powerball a few days ago. The 1 chance in 2,118,760 is for matching five numbers from 50 numbers. This would be the correct odds if there was no Bonus Balls as the 6th and 7th numbers. However, there are two Bonus Balls and so, Match 5 Prize means that you have missed out both of these Bonus Balls. The odds of missing both Bonus Balls is 10 chances in 12 (1st ball) x 9 chances in 11 (2nd ball), which equals 90 chances in 132. Therefore the matching 5 numbers only prize is calculated as follows 1/,2118,760 x 90/132 = 1/3,107,514.666 OR 1 chance in 3,107,515 (as shown on the Euromillions site).
@@howto...solvepuzzles aha! Genius! Now why didn't I think of that, it's so obvious once explained isn't it! 🙄 Thanks so much for taking the time to explain

For those not familiar with the odds, basically winning the jackpot is like me asking you to guess the number I’m thinking between 1 and 139 milionsomething......and you guess it. Easy game!
A more depressing way to look at it, if you tell everyone who bought a ticket they are not going to win you would be right 139,828,160 times and wrong only once (may be).😂
This is rubbit. There is a chance in roughly 250m that you'll get 5 numbers right. Once you choose a combinatikn, that's 1 combinations of 5 number out of 250m. How many ticket you think are played every week? 500m? Let's go with 500m. If the chances of winning the first price is 76m, then the chances of anyone winning the first price every week is 500m/130, which is +/- 4 people (a bit less, but close to 4). You don't have 4 people winning the euromillions every week. Not even in average. The average is less than 1. So, sorry, these calculations are wrong.
The odds of winning has zero to do with the number if people playing or tickets sold, it's a purely mathematical probability based on the amount of numbers available to choose from and how many you have to select. It's a common misconception that the more people that play means the less chance you have of winning. It's not affected at all by the number of tickets sold. You could argue that the more tickets sold the more chance there is that there may be more than one jackpot winner but the odds never change, they are always the same.

More precisely, to guess the 7 numbers you're thinking from 1 to 139 million
@user-mf1fl3oy6s no guessing all 7 numbers 1-50 & 2 more number guessed correctly 1 - 12

how many millions of combinations is that then lol

You don’t really know the probability equations? Or just simplified for others to understand? 50!/(50-5)!5!, then multiply by 12!/(12-2)!2! 🤓
Your probability equation is correct. I've made this video so everyone can understand the calculation.
