I distinctly remember watching the premiere of her show when it came on the air in the fall of 1967. It's so hard to believe she's now 89 years old.....Carol, you brought much laughter and song into our hearts and lives -- thank you! We, too, are so glad we had this time together!
I’ve heard this extended version twice now. First time of course, was on the last episode of The Carol Burnett Show, and then tonight, Katy Perry performing it at the end of Carol’s birthday special. Beautiful. 😊😊
my husband was summing up our phone call saying " Im so glad we had this time together" and my brain immediatly heard Carol, I watched her when I was little and loved her so much.
Carol Burnett Show Theme Song Title: "Carol's Theme" Written By: "Joe Hamilton" I'm so glad we had this time together, Just to have a laugh, or sing a song. Seems we just get started and before you Know it Comes the time we have to say, "So long". There's a time you wanna sigh for dreamin. And a time for things you have to do. The time I love the best is any evening I can spend a moment here with you. When the time comes and I'm feelin' lonely And I'm feelin' oh so blue. I just sit back and think of you only And the happiness still comes through. That's why I'm glad we had this time together. Cause it makes me feel like I'm along. Seems we just get started and before you know it Comes the time we have to say, "So Long". Good night everybody!
I don't know how often she reads comments. but her instagram is official. and maybe while someone uploads for her, I'd say she types out what's on her posts. she might like to read your post. *itscarolburnett*
You have no idea your impact on my Mom's and my life! You and your show was such a respite to our every day life of agony and abuse. You and of your cast: Harvey , lyle, Jim and Vicke were outstanding!
You were so important in my life! Watching your show was a respite to my Dad's abuse. He would watch your show religiously! You are so talented and gifted! Thank you for all you bring to the world!
Carol Burnett had all kinds of talent. My mom loved her. For some reason this reminds me of her -- she lost her mind to Alzheimer's and took 12 years to die.
I have this down to be played at my "Celebration of Life" (funeral). I grew up watching the great Carol Burnett and sometimes would pretend to be her and dress up like her. I've relied on humor so much in my life and to me there's no better feeling than getting people to laugh. :) I do not want sad, dreary music. I want to thank the people in my life for being there for me. Life is short. The song wraps it up.
Beth Sanders wow well said. My cousin loves this song and I sung it for him at his graduation dinner since he moved back to our hometown Detroit from Atlanta last weekend 😊 The lyrics sums up the dynamic of our relationship. I never would have left Detroit if it wasn't for him. And though he got an amazing opportunity back home so we won't see each other often I'm glad that I made the move to Atlanta!
This clip was from the final episode of the Burnett show .. a Saturday night staple for years, which was very special to me as a nerdy little kid, who Loved being allowed to stay up late to watch its original run in the 1970s. CBS moved the show to Sundays in its 11th season, where it did not fair as well. Tastes had changed and the Burnett show did not fair as well in that time slot. Carol was asked by the network to come back for a 12th season, but she declined saying she wanted to leave on her terms, rather than being asked to leave. The Burnett show was replaced with a little drama tv series of note: Dallas
Sixty-five episodes of the Carol Burnett Show are now available from Time-Life. I hope many will enjoy the T.V. episodes just released for many years to come. NPR/WHYY Philadelphia's "Fresh Air" program has interviewed her - the last time a week ago and broadcast tonight. It was good to hear her again; her wonderful personality shone as brightly tonight as it has anytime I have heard her interviewed. By the way, this is the first time I have heard her signature song from beginning to end. I never knew it had multiple verses! A wonderful song it is, indeed.
The last eppy of The Carrol Burnett show aired tonight in 1978. I was about 10 & the time I remember watching the show over the years, I'm sure there were some jokes that I didn't get cause I was to young. Sadly I can't help but feel that some people would find it offensive it they aired it (new) today. Long live Carroll you beautiful, funny, wonderful lady !! (I know she probably won't see this but still.)
because it was offensive to said groups of people (then and now). Just because some people find things funny, doesn't mean it is. We should understand each other first before attempting to make fun of each other.
I miss this era of America..
Sad when comedy was funny and great so for Carole and past comics thx for the memories 😢❤

AWWW such a sad post. But yes, time waits for no one. 😢❤
So glad we had this time together!! The best tv show of all time, one of a kind and nothing could ever come close or replace it❤
This song does something to me! Remembering yesteryear in front of the black and white TV. These were the best 'live' shows and entertainers.
I’ve heard this extended version twice now. First time of course, was on the last episode of The Carol Burnett Show, and then tonight, Katy Perry performing it at the end of Carol’s birthday special. Beautiful. 😊😊
Life was so colorfully black and white. Truly gifted talent Carol B. Good night.
For some reason this tune just randomly popped into my head tonight and I had to hear it.
my husband was summing up our phone call saying " Im so glad we had this time together" and my brain immediatly heard Carol, I watched her when I was little and loved her so much.
Q
My dad would randomly sing this growing up.
I sing it too😂. Younger people probably think I’m crazy
My mom would sing this when she wanted us to go to bed 😑
lol. very appropriate song.
I want this song sang at my funeral.
Me too...
What a fantastic idea. I just now decided the same thing. Thanks for the inspiration.
Awww, now that you say that - I would too :)
You never responded over 3 years you can't be that busy
I said the SAME thing!
The BEST closing song of all time :)

Tonight was the first time I heard this whole song. Loved it. Love to you Carol. Thank you for the memories.

Listening to her sing this song brings back Beautiful memories.
Wish this show was still on television. Their worst show was better than most of the drivel on television presently!
Carol Burnett had all kinds of talent. My mom loved her. For some reason this reminds me of her -- she lost her mind to Alzheimer's and took 12 years to die.
I'm so sorry, William.
