    Good Works Tractors is happy to be sponsored by Rim Guard Solutions! This is perhaps the most well-known ballast brand on the market today. Rim Guard goes right inside your tires, so it's out of the way, it doesn't freeze, and doesn't corrode. It's made from natural materials, so it's safe around livestock and pets if it spills out. Rim Guard liquid ballast adds more weight to the back side of your tractor improving stability, loader performance, and power to the ground. Find your closest dealer at www.rimguardso...

      Iv got a 35 horse Mahindra that I got from my grandfather and it doesn't have a front end loader and no front ballast. One day I had my 5 foot bush hog on the back while loading on my lowboy equipment trailer I ended up driving onto the deck on just the back tires.

    What’s wrong with just using water if you are in a low chance of freezing where you live? Slightly less weight per gallon but it’s free.

    holding weight at a certain height is different than lifting it an inch to remove it from a trailer bed. I would have liked to see you lift it at 36 inches up an inch to test that.

    When you measured the 1025r lift capacity to full height you forgot to add the weight of the toothbar.
    You should also include what the max lift height is next to the weights.

    Rim Guard already made a difference for us. I was on some uneven ground and was lifting a hay bale to our pickup truck, when one tire started to lift up. I had 400 pounds behind but it wasn't enough, but if I hadn't of had Rim guard, I know it would have tipped over! I was able to get the hay bale loaded on level ground. However I have 540 pounds of suitcase weights coming in today (along with an Implement on tge same pallet) from GWT to add to my back Implement one we weld on angle iron and hang the weights.

    Liquid ballast all day every day here in the Texas Hill Country. You would be in trouble driving around here without it. Lifting heavy loads leverages against that ballast weight and saves the front axle from undo punishment as well. Worth every penny!

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 роки тому +1

      Hehe, one of the arguments that never go away...I pulled those lift numbers from the 1025r and B2601 from a video I did a couple years back. A vocal minority insisted it wasn't fair when I compared the 1025r to the BX Series. So, I compared it to a larger frame tractor, the B2601. The B2601 is most definitely a direct competitor to the Summit TX25. The Summit lifted nearly 200 lbs more than the Kubota B2601 to full height. The 1025r was included as a data point since it was convenient.

      The Deer 2025R lift almost the same as the 1025R and is the same size as this TX25. If you want to compare against the Deer 2038R or the 2032R that's one size over.

    I've got calcium chloride in my tires, and it came with it from the dealer. I'm considering replacing it with RimGuard, primarily because of the corrosion issue. I'll have to ask the RimGuard folks if they're installation process also includes (or can include) removing any existing liquid ballast.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 роки тому +8

      I do believe many JD manuals still specifically list calcium chloride mixed with water for liquid ballast...almost like they want you to get that replacement set of wheels down the road 😂

    • @freecycling6687
      @freecycling6687 2 роки тому +3

      It would be up to the RimGuard dealer you use if they wanted to remove any existing ballast. The reason I know this is because I almost bought a tractor from a dealer who pre-filled the tires with magnesium chloride, even though I had requested RimGuard. I had arranged with a RimGuard dealer to go to the dealer's shop, remove the existing stuff, wash out the rims and tires, then fill with RimGuard. But the dealer decided they didn't want to do it. (I ended up at a different dealer.)

    • @jimmcknight3021
      @jimmcknight3021 2 роки тому +2

      @@freecycling6687 I had to go to a different Kubota dealer the day we took delivery of the tractor because our dealer didn't sell Rim guard. They swapped out tires at our dealer with another new tractor, because we wanted R4s rather than R1s. Nobody at our dealer in sales and service knew that someone had but water and antifreeze in them. This dealer simply drained it and filled them with Rim guard. It just took longer, but it was worth the wait since we have goats and sheep.

    I have a 1025R. I could not get wheel spacers because of the MMM. I had Rimguard added as well as 70 lb wheel weights and it makes a significant difference. I can imagine that with larger tires it would have even more impact. It's not hype.

    • @projectswithjw

      You can get 1.5" spacers on the rear with a mower deck.

    • @YMF1891
      @YMF1891 2 роки тому

      @@projectswithjw It depends on model year and what size mower deck. I have a 2015 with 54" deck. I have measured it more than once. Anything wider than 1/2" and the rear tire would interfere with the bracket for the adjustable guide wheels. Newer models don't seem to have the same problem so they likely moved the location of the bracket for the guide wheels.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 роки тому +1

      I take a key or screwdriver and gently poke the valve (careful as contents are under a bit of pressure). Sometimes it's easy to figure out, other times not. A good test to at least know if it'll free or not is to collect a small sample and put in your freezer overnight. This will at least give you an idea of it its water or too much water. Odor can help too. Water, windshield washer fluid, calcium chloride, RimGuard, and TL90 are some common choices used for liquid ballast.

      I've just finished getting RimGuard installed by a local dealer in a new tractor, so I've been all over their website for a while now. They have a thing they call a "Fill Tool" that tells you for a given tire how many gallons it takes and the weight. Summit says the TX25 comes with Goodyear R14T 12-16.5 rear tires (www.summittractors.com/pdf/specs-tx25h.pdf). And the RG fill tool says those tires take 16 gallons, with a weight of 175 lbs. (www.rimguardsolutions.com/tire-fill-tools/) So the two tires would add 350 pounds total.

    I like your attempt at capability comparison but for the "truck unloading test" you need to start at 37 inches and go UP 1 inch, then drive back 4 feet - failure to lift that 1 inch means you might drag... and when the load comes off the truck you tip.... so the test requires lifting 1 inch then backing up the width of the pallet. Still, nice demo and you do get your point across. :)

    Oh man great demonstration!!
    As far as Rim Guard goes, per their website, there are no dealers in Arizona. The closest dealers are in California and Utah. So I purchased 96 gallons of RV Antifreeze from my local Walmart. I know most people use Window Washer Fluid, but it is toxic, weighs less than the RVA, and only good to -25 degrees. RVA is non toxic, heavier, good to -50 degrees, non-corrosive, and was the exact same price as WWF. Oh and btw, Bobcat told me using any wheel weights or tire ballast will void their warranty. That is why I purchased a Kioti, even though I had to drive 250 miles to get it and the Bobcat dealer is local...

    Out of experience, load the front tires for traction situations instead of suitcase weights, unless its a larger class tractor, (50/60 horse or larger for field use.) Loaded rear tires for loader use, absolutely, loaded tires add weight to the tractor as a whole unit, any other added weight puts more strain on the tractor frame, wheel bearings steering etc..... meaning possibly sooner replacements. Older tractors were heavy, cast iron cast steel, hey, maybe even cast plastic! Settle down,. just kidding on the plastic. But regardless, newer tractors have a lot of cheaper and lighter materials in them, beware of where you put extra weight.

    These R14 tires, filled with Rim Guard. . . I have some Honey Locust trees on my property, with at least 3 trails passing under some of them. Which means some occasional BIG thorns on the ground. Have had to repair front tires on my little JD 180E lawn tractor twice so far. I worry about puncturing and having a huge rim guard mess. Valid concern? Or don't worry because the tire tread is thick enough to not be an issue?

    I think I am interested in wheel spacers however.

      The sunshade really helps even in the cool Northwest.
      Your tractor, because of the center pivot on the front axle, acts pretty much like a 3 wheel vehicle. You need weight on the two back wheels to keep them anchored to the ground or your tractor will act like that 3 wheel vehicle in the Mr. Bean series, especially if you have weight on your loader and have your loader high. Liquid in tire ballast like RimGuard is a good start, but an implement, ballast box or the suitcase weight bracket Courtney sells are a good idea for loader work.

    I had Rim Guard put in the tires on my Kubota BX tractor when I purchased it brand-new in 2016. I had to replace both rear tires this year, 5 years later, because the Rim Guard had degraded the side walls of the tires. The side walls had started to split and seep. Is there something specific with Kubota BX tires or is this a common known issue with all sub-compact tires?

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  2 роки тому +2

      So tempted to talk some trash about the Kubota, but I hold my tongue, haha!
      Hmm, now that is a strange one. Seems like a one-off type of situation. I've never heard of that occurring with RimGuard, beet juice, TL-90, or any other product. I'm sure the tires are long gone, but that's the kind of thing that would be hard to pinpoint without some further analysis. I've had many used Kubota tractors pass through my shop with RimGuard stickers on them. None had new tires. This isn't a known problem with the product nor any other liquid ballast (yes, chloride will ruin the wheels). I'm guessing more to the story that may never be known. All that said, RimGuard and pretty much every quality liquid ballast dealer will recommend changing out rubber valve stems for steel.

      @johnsnyder751 2 роки тому

      @@RimGuardBallast Thank you for responding. I can't truly say it was RimGuard that caused the issue, however, this is what I was told by C.H. Waltz bloomsburg, PA location, which is my local kubota dealer. It is possible that the information I was given was not accurate and it was actually an issue with the tire manufacturer that Kubota was using in 2016. I was told by the service manager that the dealership is now filling the BX tires with windshield wiper fluid to avoid the issues with RimGuard. I would be happy to vouch for the information I was given verbally by the dealer if RimGuard wants to pursue a discussion with the dealership about providing false claims about the product, beyond that, I do not know if this is worth pursuing? I was not looking for reimbursement, I just wanted to know, for my own knowledge, if the information I was given by the deal was accurate for my own knowledge.

    The other good thing with liquid ballast (and wheel weights) is it's un-sprung weight. It doesn't effect your axle weight capacity. It will effect your 0 to 12 mph time tho, so no drag racing your neighbor.
    Up here in the PNW I can't use the extra weight in the winter (Oct - May?) because of the mud and clay at least on my property. I picked up a new LS MT-235HE for a retirement present in Feb and couldn't use it on most of my property as it would get stuck with those pos R-4 tires it came with (and the added extra #1000lbs of the tractor probably didn't help). Would have had to wait months to get the R1's ordered. I dropped a couple dozen tree's over the last year and I had to use my old '97 JD-770 to move most of my branch's and lighter logs to my fire pit in the middle of my swamp. Working on drainage this year.
