    I thought this post was nuts. He did a crazy amount of work and worked on every inch of that car. In the end, however, I applaud him. Still crazy, but he did it and that's pretty cool. He didn't hide his errors or lie like most. He also shared a lot of specifics, which was nice. Nice job.

    Great job!
    I know it is a lot of work because I did almost everything on my CRV except roof (to do soon)… I did the floors, 5 doors outer and inner shell, trunk, hood, firewall, wheel arches with Kilmat and foam layer plus mass loaded vinyl where I can add…
    And the improvements were marginal- improved, but still not luxury car standards. Next will be change the tires to better touring tires. It took me probably 50 hours (including changing all speakers)… so I appreciate your work and time documenting it all:) cheers!

      Was it worth it? I got an rd1, and im thinking of doing that as well. Since it gets loud in the crv.

      Like @Faraday cage said, the results were only marginally better. If you’re expecting “sound proofing” like a quiet room or luxury cars nowadays… realistically its not gunna happen. 😅
      BUT…..
      i can say my hatch is a little quieter than before but still a little noisy at times although for me thats cause of my ride height. If your CR-V is stock height it might be better.👍 Best of Luck!

      Hey guys, sorry, didn’t notice the replies and questions.
      It was worth it because my 2022 CRV LX was one of the loudest cars I’ve driven. Great price, great driving car… but super loud due to not having much sound deadening and limited amounts of isolation barriers etc. also, it came with Bridgestone Ecopias which are eco hard compound tires.
      Anyways, the sound deadening and foam layer helped 10%. Then another 12% was helped by finding someone selling their brand new Touring trim crv19” mags and stock Continental LXsport tires which are super nice-touring tires.
      Expensive, time consuming but worth it because we spend so much time in the car:) cheers

    I have a 2013 Mercedes s550 and its pretty quiet already, but i just did the spare tire well, all four wheel liners, and just did all four doors. Made a pretty significant difference. Now its super quiet. I used the 80m kilnat. It does work.

    Deadening doesn't block out noise just vibrations. Foam or MLV is designed to block noise. You don't need to deadened the entire car that's a mistake many make. Other than that, good job.

    • @aakudev
      @aakudev 6 місяців тому

      That's true, it's more important to treat the wheel wells and arches from where the vibration and noise enters the cabin. Putting so much stuff adds so much weigth and reduces just a bit of vibration.

      Any audible sound is vibration! Whether that is transmitted through a material or air. Eliminate vibration. Eliminate sound period.

    Fyi. Weight isn't for speed. Usually weight is a concern for mpg. I suppose if you race 0-60 a lot. Then weight matters.

    • @projectgoodspeed
      @projectgoodspeed  Рік тому

      Okay soo from what I remember i believe 36 sq ft was enough to cover about %90 of JUST the floor area (with certain tiles overlapping AND NOT the wheel arches). Basically only 1 rear seat area still needed coverage, and the center console area was kinda patch. Also, I wasnt sure if they were supposed to be overlapping but if you dont overlap and install them side by side you might be able to cover the whole floor. Most of my tiles overlapped about half inch. Hope that helps👍

    Can multiple layers of killmat be applied? (I’ve never worked with that stuff and was curious.)
    Nice work and good effort! That looked like a lot of work. Kind of inspiring me to do this to a small Nissan truck that I’ve had for years. That thing sounds like you’re driving a coke can down the road. Lol.
    Just a thought but…I wonder how much of an improvement you’d get if you used the left over killmat on the under side of the hood and added a little sound proofing material to the top of the wheel wells (not the anti vibration killmat stuff). Lastly, if you went around the entire outside of the car looking for potential rattling parts and packed those places with that small foam strip stuff you were using I bet you could make a decent step up in sound performance with a lot less effort than you put in initially to put all that killmat in. I’m guessing when it comes to sound proofing every little bit has got to help.

    • @projectgoodspeed
      @projectgoodspeed  10 місяців тому

      @mxcollin95 Soo from what i understand you probably could use multiple layers. I actually overlapped some of the killmat myself because i had never worked with it either lol it definitely mutes the car a little but nowhere near what i had wished but its just cause i wasnt being realistic! Lol my lowered Hatchback i guess will always be loud! Ohh well.
      However the main role is to act as a sound deadener not a “silencer”… so overlapping it might not do too much to stop the initial BANGS of rocks pelting the underside. (Trust me the little hatchback gets a lot of those)😂
      As far the hood and wheel wells i didnt use any there because its expensive for one.. and the wheel wells have their own plastic protectors so they minimize the sound already. The hood however i wasnt sure if it was heat proof but its definitely worth lookin into i had planned on DIYing a custom one using junkyard stuff from other cars for better appearance but a heat proof sound deadening might work too!👍
      Lastly, Im not sure how well anything would stick to the underside of my car given that im pretty low, and i dont have a proper lift to properly clean the underside well enough for anything to stick to it lol also im guessing it would also sustain a lot of damage pretty quickly here in CALIFORNIA lol (terrible roads) that id just have to keep replacing stuff often..
