I tuned into the stream during the co-op section, expecting y'all to endure some difficult trial that would either strengthen your bonds or destroy your friendships forever, but y'all got it first try.
Choosing to make the generation of foragarables occur in a pattern rather than pseudo-randomly was probably more for optimisation than ease of coding. There's probably some library function or stack overflow code if he wanted them to be truly random but if it doesn't make a difference to the player then you might as well optimise.
True randomness is impossible in modern computers (maybe it's possible in quantum ones) but when you need to generate TRULY random numbers, the best you can do is monitor some kind of radiation decay and generate numbers off of that.
It wouldn't be that difficult to make the clay pattern random. We talked CA out of making the change when he first became aware of it. Also, how about 2 coops?
Yeah, seems to be an odd misunderstanding. Zero reason to write your own random implementation, and for something like this you don't need anything particularly complicated. Seems more like CA just prefers using seeds and deterministic behavior when possible rather than random behavior, which is fair. Much easier to test when most things are deterministic.
Imagine being Robin and suddenly one day 4 people who own the nearby local farm come crashing into your store fumbling around hundreds of stone, wood and clay, and when you try to leave they forcefully hold you there as one of them buys a coop.
If Robin's menu stays up as long as you're there, couldn't you have one player head there at 4:50 pm, get the menu up, and just stay there until the house closes? That would get you several extra hours to grind. It might even be possible with 3 players instead of 4.
but couldnt you theoretically do this if the person going to robins has all the wood and stone already? you can def get the required natural materials before 5pm and just wait as the others get the money?
you could have probably saved some flag farming time by just selling the 60 parsnip seeds to pierre and using that money along with the clay money to make things much easier
Kind of unrelated, but does anyone remember how Pierre has a letter from Joja in his kitchen that offers him a job for 2 gold an hour? Consider for a second that with clay farming, you can quite literally dig up dirt for a day and easily get 2-3000 gold from. Heck, you could get up a SINGLE piece of clay and earn more than you would on a day under that wage. Morris really hit a LOW blow with that lack of respect.
