Concept: A Professor Oak's Challenge in Stardew In Pokémon, a Professor Oak's Challenge is where you have to catch every single Pokémon available during a certain point of the game before progressing and unlocking new areas. I think it would be interesting try something like that, but in Stardew. Maybe you have to complete as much of perfection as possible in spring, and sleep through the other seasons until you've got every spring item/progression before doing anything in Summer. I'm not sure how well it would work, but it would kind of be the High% inverse of this run, in a way.
Wand of Sparking has actually done two runs similar to what you're thinking of. For one of the runs, he attempted to complete the entire collection tab in 1 ingame year. The other one was trying to complete perfection as fast as possible or within 2 years. They're great videos and I'd recommend checking them out :)
That'll mean having to get fishing 10 for the legend fish before every being able to progress. Also, how will non-seasonal parts of the game fit in, like the mines? Is that allowed to be done at all point when unlocked?
Great run! Love the creativity that goes into these low % runs. Small nit-pick for the farming walnuts: you could have save scummed them one at a time. Pick a tulip and reset if it doesn't give a walnut. Whenever you do get a nut, sleep to lock it in and that gives you the walnuts with only 5 tulips picked.
@@davidclayton1670 if they’re anything like me, it can be really hard to focus on them because they’re just so long and sometimes, they’re really repetitive (like this video. that’s not his fault though, this speedrun literally required repetition). to have the same content from the streams shortened down into one video that can be paused and picked up at another time & is very easily digestible is really nice :) i still like streams, but i mostly fall asleep to them or have them playing while i’m cleaning or something.
Hearing you say that you've never gotten a living hat is yet another affirmation to me that my beginners luck is the bane of peoples existence. I had played maybe 4-5 hours of stardew in multiplayer, opened up a single player file to mess around with it myself And got a living hat on day 3 while cleaning things up. Just wanted to share my emotions lol. Really liked the video, it was very-very interesting to see something new (atleast for me) like that!
Funny enough, through watching this video of an imperfection run, you helped me towards perfection. For a little background, I've got a save I've played 6 in game years on (going into year 7, currently in winter.) I didn't try for perfection until year 5, just played how I felt like playing. And I've been stuck at 127 golden walnuts, trying to wrack my brain for which ones at this point I could be missing. Then you brought up the pirates. And I've visited the pirates once. Never got those 3 golden walnuts. So, thank you for through your imperfection run, getting me closer to my goal of getting my first perfection save 😂

@@ravenman4228 That wouldn't be needed, because you can gain one level with this ruleset which can be used for farming, and that lets you get all the quality crops while still leaving a bunch of XP to use for Tulips for the 5 walnuts on Ginger island.

The wiki has been updated (only a week ago) to show everything you can find in ginger island artifact spots! The first golden coconut is apparently a 5% chance, but that's a conditional 5% meaning other checks must fail before this is attempted. So the actual chance is closer to 2.5%. That's only on island west and north though. On island south it's a 3.4% chance. If you haven't opened the cave yet it's 3.8% on both west and south, and if you haven't repaired the bridge to the dig site it's 3.8% on island north as well. This is because the game only starts checking for fossil parts after unlocking those areas, and since they're checked before the rare golden coconut they interfere with the final chance. The reason island south has a higher coconut chance even after unlocking fossils is that ribs are rarer (10%) than both vertebrae and bone fragments (22.5%).
I’d like to see if this run is still possible in 1.6! Something that was added is that if you don’t do any fishing, Willy visits you at your farm and gives you a free level of fishing. I imagine to avoid this, you’d either have to do some fishing, or never go to the beach. Loved the video! ❤❤❤ It was a very fascinating challenge. I wonder if it’ll become a speedrun in the future.
A red mushroom, something that was in that first traveling trader, is part of the exotic forgetting bundle. Meaning you could have gotten 4 items for one bundle at of one merchant and could have had that bundle done by the 15th.

1.6 added in an official way to do lowest% perfection runs as you can buy perfection%, and you can use legacy randomization to still use clay farming. It's not worth doing it, but it might be interesting to theorycraft how long it would take to gather 48,500,000 gold without gaining any xp to buy 97 levels of perfection after doing a run like this to unlock the walnut room.
Watching this for the umpteen-millionth time and realized that when you gave Sandy the pearl before buying those 10 coconuts she responds with her "Ooo i love getting flowers from the valley" response. Does that mean she only has 1 response for loved items? Interesting.
I know that somewhere someone (probably BlaDe) figured out that the first golden walnut that you give to the bird doesn't count towards the door but does count towards perfection. In my experience, I'm pretty diligent about keeping score in my own games & almost always know how many I've collected by door count. The perfection tracker always reads 1 more than whatever that number is for me. (for example, If i had 99 walnuts and finished the snake skeleton, i know the perfection tracker will read 103 when I enter the room, even through 99+3 =102).
While watching this I got my luckiest two days, the first day I caught my first legendary fish!(the Angler), and on the next day I fished up a dinosaur egg, and at night the crop fairy completely grew my sweet gem berries on the 7 of fall

@@silvershine2261lol that is still rng, just that you can see the rng. it doesn't change what you get that day. predictor does not negate rng 😂
Concept: A Professor Oak's Challenge in Stardew
In Pokémon, a Professor Oak's Challenge is where you have to catch every single Pokémon available during a certain point of the game before progressing and unlocking new areas.
Or 100%?
Wand of Sparking has actually done two runs similar to what you're thinking of.
For one of the runs, he attempted to complete the entire collection tab in 1 ingame year.
The other one was trying to complete perfection as fast as possible or within 2 years.
They're great videos and I'd recommend checking them out :)
@@darknessitself8259neither of those are too similar. He’s saying you don’t do anything on a non-spring day until you have 100% the spring season
That'll mean having to get fishing 10 for the legend fish before every being able to progress.
Also, how will non-seasonal parts of the game fit in, like the mines? Is that allowed to be done at all point when unlocked?
I know this is late, but "Kent sends you bombs in the mail, which is normal" had me dying
I personally LOATH livestreams, and REALLY appreciate you going through all the work that goes into turning a stream into a feature video.
Yes exactly! Same here!
I'm curious, what do you dislike about them?
I find them pretty charming.
I had played maybe 4-5 hours of stardew in multiplayer, opened up a single player file to mess around with it myself
And got a living hat on day 3 while cleaning things up. This is after I got ancient seed in like the first three days of mining in Multiplayer stardew.
I've never been that lucky in a game before and I think this is the funniest thing
i got a meteor in the first year and it landed right in the middle of the path i made to the mountains. i still haven’t been able to break it, but it’s grown on me, i don’t think my farm would feel the same without it.
This helped me a lot cuz I thought the branches on the ground and getting berries from the bushes counted towards levels, I never knew they didn’t 😢
Nearly a year later I have watched this video so many times, I love low percent runs and would love to see sal do more challenge runs in general
I’ve watched A LOT of stardew videos but this has left me legitimately amazed and very impressed! This.was.incredible. And I didn’t think it was even possible but you did it, wow, congratulations!
I literally opened my mouth in bare shock when you've gotten the Hot Java ring out of rare chest on floor 9 in the Volcano because in my current playthrough I really want to get one but after like a month of everyday grinding for it I've still got none!
Me who knows nothing about stardew valley: This video is interesting.
"kent sends you bombs in the mail...which is normal" 😂😂😂
This was super cool! I'm surpised there hasn't been a Low% run before, and the discoveries you made about the game and the wiki are really interesting and exciting! Cheers!
on rewatch, i'm suddenly VERY concerned about why Gus had a poisonous mushroom in his trash.
oh no. better not get on gus' bad side, huh..
Ordered a crate of mushrooms, noticed one was bad and pitched it like an absolute hero
I mean, that cutscene where he comes to your door lowkey feels like he's threatening you until the point he says he's happy you moved there.
'Nice spicy eel you got there. Would be a real shame if someone poisoned it'
That was delightfully demented! What a great way to meet your work.
Welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's one of the videos I'm most proud of!
@@salmence100And justly so! :)
I love the selection of nintendo music used in the video, it really opens my heart for nostalgia, and also a good video to watch. Good Job.
those subtle meme references you slipped into the script without changing your tone or cadence had me ROLLING
Your suspicion is right. The room counter is one low, so you need 101 walnuts to get into the Qi room.
" the ONLY MOD IM USING IS EXPERIENCE BARS! "
the alolan vulpix hes petting : father why do you deny me
Yes I'd really enjoy seeing more unusual runs! So fun to challenge yourself in this game
Incredible video!! I loved this run, can’t wait to see if others try to optimize it further or speedrun it. The routing you did is super impressive!!
The 101'st walnut is the one you fed to the parrot at the very beginning, so im pretty sure that one just doesnt count towards the door
this man is both the most inexperienced and somehow experienced farmer i've ever see
I think it’s genuinely really cool when creators go back on their older videos and reply to the comments!!!❤❤
22:30. Bro. I've been looking for this video for so long. Just the way you say I forgor so casually is just so funny. I'm so glad I found it
this is such a sick idea
This video was my first time seeing stardew valley and got me into the game so thanks for posting❤
YESS I hope you have fun!
I just wanted you to know that the rocks on the farm always give you one experience so the rocks that you exploded may not have had any coal at all.
48:40 "but personally, my mango is to blow up" that was clever i liked that
ummm have you ever seen argon’s no level up challenge… if you were to do this again you could possibly employ some of the strategies he used in that run.
I’ve watched it as background noise, but I don’t remember all of the in depth strategies. Also I don’t think I’ll ever do this again lol
Cool! I only really watched it once and then started watching his perfection runs, so was just thinking his strategies might help in anyone’s future attempts of this.
I mean cheating with multiplayer to bypass and get over 100 xp gained is a little cheaty
But if you wanted it could make this run extremely easy, get friends, give them copper axe, have them chop down 7 hardwood stumps, destroy house and rebuild, new player and the xp ""never"" passes level 2 which is the requirement of this run
@@ravenman4228
That wouldn't be needed, because you can gain one level with this ruleset which can be used for farming, and that lets you get all the quality crops while still leaving a bunch of XP to use for Tulips for the 5 walnuts on Ginger island.
@@KCzz15 You'd still need to farm for the hardwood though, and using the cheaty multiplayer methods he could have shaved off all the hours getting hardwood
finally i found another youtuber who can make a good video that i can be interested in and its calming and i can fall asleep to. that takes effort, amazing
Almost missed the "my mango is to blow up" reference 🤣 Loved this video, btw!
I just spent two hours listening to your commentary on two different videos and playing stardew, I have bad adhd so this was a huge thing for me but your constant comments make it so easy to to stay focused.
it's legitimately interesting how much actual work you have to do to do "less things"
This will forever be one of my favorite runs to rewatch.
51:30 Did you try /recountnuts?
This might be the biggest, "um actually" moment ever.
The living hat is funny because i just bought stardew on switch so i can play it when im not feeling good and in bed and don't feel like being on my PC, and i got the living hat on the first day. im now on the second week in the switch version with my Living Hat on XD
Just saying, I have 0 knowledge about this game, but you've explained it so perfectly that it didn't matter and I could enjoy it, thank you
Since you were allowed 1 level in any category, you could've levelled Foraging to 1 to get the first Gold Coconut faster.
Salmence: “I have one mod on. It lets me see my current experience.”
*walks past an Alolan Vulpix*
Me:
Me: WAIT-
What? You mean you don't always pick the totally 100% alolan vulpix at the start of your games?
@@nicolaslinopereira677 Ah yes I must have just missed this 100% real vanilla option for a pet
I know it's just a typo, but I find it highly amusing that he 'forgot' the red mushroom is part of the exotic foraging bundle and then you called it the exotic 'forgetting' bundle 😂
thank you so much for going through the trouble of having non-overlay video, sometimes I feel like the only person who can't stand twitch overlays.
"Hey why haven't you been going after hardwood?"
Salmence, sitting on a chair, his hands in his lap like a cat:
"I forgor."

This video was very nice and relaxing to watch and interesting for a seasoned stardew player, really good stuff!!
Ok, so, since this info apperantly isn't common knowledge:
CUTTING THE SMALL LOGS DOESN'T GIVE EXP!
It never has and is confirmed if you use the UI Info Suite mod and if you watched the "beating Stardew Valley without gaining levels" video.
Edit: i see now this was adressed in the video. ^^*
Oh, this was a wonderful watch. I really enjoyed the variety of strategies used here and the how much planning ahead was needed throughout. Really great video!
Wow, amazing. The only time where the mushroom cave is the better option.
It’s always the better option, it’s consistent and you can just buy fruit trees
I think I've watched a bit of one of these streams. This is perseverance and patience defined. Big respect! ❤
This was an awesome stream to watch. Congrats, Sal!
This is reaaallly fun to watch. I appreciate your dedication to do this. Keep going, pal.
awesome run! i love seeing low % runs!
I found your videos recently. Your voice is very soothing and I’ve been listening to these at work (tax season lol.) I tend to play stardew with 25% profit margin because I hate myself
48:39 I did not expect that joke and I CACKLED.
Oh boy wait until you gift Abigail a non food item 😂
Oh it hurts how much the 1.6 update nullifies this run, but it’s so good to watch
Bro actually got the living hat!!
this was really well made :) the music in the background was so happy
Honestly I really dig the stream footage
Thank you for this. I loved this vid very much and you did prove the whole internet wrong. Great content as always
(for example, If i had 99 walnuts and finished the snake skeleton, i know the perfection tracker will read 103 when I enter the room, even through 99+3 =102).
i haven't even ever played stardew valley so i have no idea what the hell is going on but i like hearing you play
I got a living hat on my first playthrough in spring and didn't even know it was rare lol
thank you for this video, it brightened my day a lot
48:39 bro listen. ive watched this video no less than two dozen times (its a fav to put on for bed) and i just. JUST. got this fucking joke. jesus
and act like i dont know no body ak ak ak ak ak
Felt like a huge dork for recognizing every single Nintendo track you played in the background, but it sure made the video more entertaining for me
The first wall nut you collect doesn’t count until you reach the wall nut room
While watching this I got my luckiest two days, the first day I caught my first legendary fish!(the Angler), and on the next day I fished up a dinosaur egg, and at night the crop fairy completely grew my sweet gem berries on the 7 of fall
2:03 then why are you sitting down
Why not
