Doubling Season got reprinted! Also, this set looks awesome! My girlfriend likes 2 headed giant because she has social anxiety so she avoids 1v1 drafts, this will be great for us when we're at the LGS together.
Joseph Jacobs I felt the way it was presented in this video was confusing; "Partner with" means when this permanent enters the battlefield, target player puts the other card in their hand from their library. This is different from the "Partner" ability that says you can have two commanders.
Smash Partner With is a variation on Partner. Partner With not only allows you to tutor for the partner, but also allows you to use both partners as Commanders
Smash partner with also let's you have two commanders. It's basically the same ability, however it restricts it's partner to a specific other card AND if used in a regular tech the ability still has an actual use in that it tutors the other.
Pfifferling Schmächtich actually it was explained they are considered co-commanders, so essentially you are allowed access to both colors no matter who is used as the main commander
Why does Wedge speak like a first generation android that's trying to figure out how to talk like a human but its coding is too simplistic to get it right?
Just an additional note: In Two-Headed Giant, if the match time limit is reached before a winner is determined, the team whose turn it is finishes their turn and 3 additional turns are played, instead of the normal 5.
Also from the tournament doc: "In single-elimination rounds, matches may not end in a draw. If all players have equal game wins at the end of additional turns, the player with the highest life total wins the current game. In the event all players have equal life totals (or are between games and the game wins are tied), the game/match continues with an additional state-based action: if a player does not have the highest life total, they lose the game. Two-Headed Giant teams are treated as a single player for determining a game winner."
The art is nice. I dont like the PWs commanders, 2014 was enough, original and few. This seems like almost a rule change for Commander, "now planeswalkers can be your commander, oh and also you can have 2". At this rate you'll end up with 5 enchantments as your commander. So not cool.
Danny Knight nah man, the art for a serious set should be better than that, anyone can go on an animation app, and come up with better art for this set
Hey Prof! Love the new perspective of the office! Just a quick note: glancing at the script (or whatever was off screen) was noticeable in this particular vid. Detracts from the immersion a bit. But loved this video and the collab with Wedge!
A well executed Partner video! Thanks for the Battlebond and Two Headed Giant breakdown. I've played 2HG a few times and people still get the "each player" part wrong. Also, those Planeswalker... love em! Glad we get both in the same pack.
Great two-headed giant format video! I am beyond hyped for a Rowan planeswalker. My seven year old is learning to play Magic and her name is Rowan and she's very excited to see her name get represented in the Magic universe
Hey Professor, May you do a Video about old school magic, and maybe Combine it with a budget deck tech? I’d love to learn more about this format. Sincerely, Magharibo
Love your stuff man. I have a deck that I run when playing casually I can send you the list and you can tweak what you want/need to but blue green you'll love it
What approach are people taking to splitting out the prizes and the cards after the game? I would hope that prizes are easy and that LGS will not give out prizes that can't be easily split between two, but for cards, what approach do you use?
Previously for 2HG I've just shuffle the Rare and Mythic cards into a face down pile and take one in turns between us, but with the new "partner with" cards, that might not be such a great way to do it as keeping the partner cards together might be beneficial. Guess you could trade with your team mate after gut any other ideas?
Amazing as always, Professor! I decided just yesterday to return playing MTG after a hiatus of almost 3 years and was glad to find that my favorite college is still runnig! Prof, do you think it will be worth it to keep playing forfun with my old decks and wait to draft again in Ravnica? And besides that, what is the best social media to talk to you, sir? Thanks so much for all these videos and keep up the good work!
Welcome back! I'm on twitter @TolarianCOllege and that's usually a good bet for dropping me a word. As for your decks, it really depends on format, but be sure you always check prices before selling/trading anything away as some cards have dramatically gone up in value.
Tolarian Community College well it looks like I'm also returning to twitter then! Thanks for the tips Professor, I won't rush any decisions before I play a bit
I wish I had friends that played or my LGS didn't disappear randomly. This seems like a fun set and I always liked 2HG when it was on MtGO. Hoping for online support for the format.
Ughhhhh I’m crushed, I’m leaving the 12th for boot camp so I’ll be around for the prerelease and maybe a draft. I hope I get a taste of this set before I leave for four and a half months ☹️
Cards like Propaganda still affect for the two (we have to pay 2 for each attacking creature no matter which one of the defending player is attacked), so saying that "you" means only "you" is not entirely right. Could you kindly respond to this, Professor?
How about interchange team members during draft, have an enemy between each team member. It sounds really fun to both draft for you and your team while also sabotaging other teams during draft.
I had built 2 decks for a 2HG tournament back during Ravnica/Time Spiral standard and remember Spectral Searchlight was MVP. Hopefully we get it back, or something better.
I love the new "partner with" abilities! However, I do have one question concerning Pir and Toothy in commander. Will Pir be able to apply his additional counter ability to your permanents, or will he just be a glorified vanilla 1/1 legendary since there are technically no teams in commander?
Hi Professor I have a question about side deck. You said there's no side deck. Then how can you side deck in between rounds if it is constructed. Also how about side decking / swiping decks according to wedge? I'm confused.
Question tho if you draft are you allowed to trade cards with your partner or is that not allowed? Say you open both packs and pull 2 cards that you know your partner would be able to benefit from is it possible to do this or no? Would be a good strategy imo.
Ok I am so making a Rowan and will Kenrith deck. First off my name is Will, second off, blue is my favorite color three I love instant and sorcery’s and 4 I love to draw cards
Would love to see Guttersnipe printed in Battlebond, as he would be a bomb for sure. But I also want him printed in one of the Ravnica sets, as I need another go 'round with him in standard.
Question. When drafting is it that one team acts a one player or each person on a team equals two players. I e. Instead of drafting by yourself. Do you and you teammate pick the two picks together as one per pack?
Please tell me they brought back soulbond as a keyword. Although I could see it cause some power issues, just seems like a no brainer for the theme of this set.
I love seeing two really good MTG youtubers pairing up for a neat set of videos on a cool set! Thanks Prof, and thanks Wedge for an awesome series of shows! Keep up the good work!
Tere were commandercards with Partner bevore. But they didnt had specific Cards written onthem. (in my opinion better) So are some of theese Cards in the set too? Or only specific ones whith absolutely no flexibility? Dont get me wrong love the idea of the set, like some of the mechanics, but predisigned partnercards seems questionable for me.
Problem. How does the format change a cards ruling. Infect says they lose if they have 10...it legit says it...its a mechanic thing right...yes its reminder text but its like if they changed the ruling to lifelink to "you gain two times the life dealt with this creature" wtfff
Minor rules error at time 5:06. You say "for each creature you choose which opponent to attack." That is incorrect. Check out rules 810.7a and 810.7b. Key phrases from each: 810.7a: "Each team’s creatures attack the other team as a group." 810.7b: "Any one-shot effect that refers to the “defending player” refers to one specific defending player, not to both of the defending players. The controller of the effect chooses which one the spell or ability refers to at the time the effect is applied."
Check again :) 810.7. The Two-Headed Giant variant uses the combat rules for the shared team turns option (see rule 805.10). This is a change from previous rules. 805.10b As the declare attackers step begins, the active team declares attackers. For each attacking creature, the attacking team announces which defending player or planeswalker that creature is attacking. The active team has one combined attack, and that set of attacking creatures must be legal as a whole. See rule 508.1 805.10e Any rule, object, or effect that refers to a “defending player” refers to one specific defending player, not to all of the defending players. If an ability of an attacking creature refers to a defending player, or a spell or ability refers to both an attacking creature and a defending player, then unless otherwise specified, the defending player it’s referring to is the player that creature is attacking, or the controller of the planeswalker that creature is attacking. If that creature is no longer attacking, the defending player it’s referring to is the player that creature was attacking before it was removed from combat or the controller of the planeswalker that creature was attacking before it was removed from combat. If a spell or ability could apply to multiple attacking creatures, the appropriate defending player is individually determined for each of those attacking creatures. If there are multiple defending players that could be chosen, the controller of the spell or ability chooses one.
Got the tolarian prof being awe inspiring and impressive by looking like an actual expert wizard in this video. Grow out the beard and stash a bit more to be master looking. Plus the nice threads really add to the well established wizard. Anyway another awesome video. I hope you keep up this wonderful and very needed service. If no one else appreciates it, I at least will.
Was excited for this until I learned that of the 254 cards from the set only 85 cards would be new. Don't mind reprints, but for something unique like this I expected a bit more originality, i.e. less reprints.
I am not really getting it, with only 4 packs there are only 56 cards drafted, which means that with 23 cards per player there is no room for any other cards?
Hello Professor, I have watched a lot of your deckbox reviews. I thought the boxes were great! They all had their own unique thing. But none of them has all these things. So I made a prototype of my own designed deckbox. My question is: Could you please take a look at my deckbox? Kind regards, Matthijs Ebbing
For a moment I thought the title said "How to play Battletoads" and now I really want the prof to teach that.
you make sure you're playing single player or you suffer
Doubling Season got reprinted! Also, this set looks awesome! My girlfriend likes 2 headed giant because she has social anxiety so she avoids 1v1 drafts, this will be great for us when we're at the LGS together.
I’m glad this makes playing with your spouses easier. I can only hope my own wife will eventually try MtG in the future.
Same situation here, my wife loves drafting and 2hg games, hates 1v1 due to social anxiety, oh and DOUBLING SEASON!!!!!!!!!
"Oh cool, there’s a couple new planeswalkers in battlebond. Oh SWEET, they’re commanders!"
(Sees partner ability)
(Head Explodes)
Joseph Jacobs I felt the way it was presented in this video was confusing; "Partner with" means when this permanent enters the battlefield, target player puts the other card in their hand from their library. This is different from the "Partner" ability that says you can have two commanders.

It's basically the same ability, however it restricts it's partner to a specific other card AND if used in a regular tech the ability still has an actual use in that it tutors the other.
Since the planeswalkers have different colour identities, it wouldn't even work to have one of them as a commander and the other in the deck.
Pfifferling Schmächtich actually it was explained they are considered co-commanders, so essentially you are allowed access to both colors no matter who is used as the main commander
Why does Wedge speak like a first generation android that's trying to figure out how to talk like a human but its coding is too simplistic to get it right?
IDK, but it hurts my ears.
He's such a nice guy though, so I wasn't going to point it out.
homosex

I'm really looking forward to all of the new cards that can be used in commander!
Affinity For Commander I'm excited for that as well, but am also disappointed that the art sucks
The art is nice.
I dont like the PWs commanders, 2014 was enough, original and few.
This seems like almost a rule change for Commander, "now planeswalkers can be your commander, oh and also you can have 2".
At this rate you'll end up with 5 enchantments as your commander. So not cool.
The art is okay and the mana costs for the planeswalkers is high. But I'll give them a try
Danny Knight nah man, the art for a serious set should be better than that, anyone can go on an animation app, and come up with better art for this set
I CHOSE THE HONDENS!
2 Headed Giants is such an underrated format. Glad you and Wedge teamed up for this video.
i thought this said how to play battle toads. I was hype af.
I am actually more excited to use those planeswalkers in regular edh than in battlebond.
This set looks awesome! Super fun 2HG draft play. Great commander cards! Awesome reprints with only $4 packs. Really excited for it.
So awesome seeing two of my favorite MTG content creators making videos together.
Been waiting forever to see the 2v2 Format get some love!!!
Nice touch to have a partner for the video. Thanks Wedge and the Professor for making this video. Great to see both of you in the same vid!
The Prof and Wedge make a great duo; I always enjoy seeing them team up.
Why is this guy staring down his nose at me
Tim Draeger Gotta admit I was wondering that too. Bit out of character
he does have that same air as pompous judges do at my local PPTQ events. even down to his tone of voice.
Wow!! Great video both of you!! 😁👍
Your partner has a voice for books and a face for radio
Glad you got a good preview this time Prof.
Glorious beard
I love your new setup! ...and the thumbnail!!
Thank you for all the great content you’re making.
A fan.
Very informative video!! Group games aren't always my thing so I'll definitely have to give two-headed giant another try.
Can’t wait to draft this set. It looks like it’s gonna be awesome. Partner cards seem like such a fun little added bonus for playing this set
Great two-headed giant format video!
I am beyond hyped for a Rowan planeswalker. My seven year old is learning to play Magic and her name is Rowan and she's very excited to see her name get represented in the Magic universe
I love these collaboration videos
I really like Wedge. He's such a good guy.
Unless you're an attractive woman on twitter, then he's worse than Jared Leto
I love the fact that Prof and Wedge "partnered" up for this video--very in theme for Battlebond!
Nice beardage!!! I really like when cards that say "target player" have added flexibility! And cooperative play in general.
This video reminds me... I want more meld cards!
2H Giant is popular in our play group. We are all looking forward to this one...
I love this Wedge collab.
Hey Professor, May you do a Video about old school magic, and maybe Combine it with a budget deck tech?
I’d love to learn more about this format.
Sincerely,
Magharibo
Two headed giant can end friendships. Legit talk.
Love your stuff man. I have a deck that I run when playing casually I can send you the list and you can tweak what you want/need to but blue green you'll love it
i really like this video format thank you for making it together

I'm just looking forward to the Battlebond lands that I can use for EDH. Everything else is just gravy.
I really really like my UA-cam magic channels combining powers.
For EDH, I like the new Foe-Lands and the 1/3 that draws a card eot. Pretty much the only decent spoilers so far.
I had built 2 decks for a 2HG tournament back during Ravnica/Time Spiral standard and remember Spectral Searchlight was MVP. Hopefully we get it back, or something better.
have to love the near constant up the nose shot of the guest in the video.
I love the new "partner with" abilities! However, I do have one question concerning Pir and Toothy in commander. Will Pir be able to apply his additional counter ability to your permanents, or will he just be a glorified vanilla 1/1 legendary since there are technically no teams in commander?
Hi Professor
I have a question about side deck. You said there's no side deck. Then how can you side deck in between rounds if it is constructed. Also how about side decking / swiping decks according to wedge? I'm confused.
I cant wait for the command zone to play this with prof and the mana source
Excellent video! Answered all of my questions!
Fantastic video guys - put a huge smile on my face today :D
So quick question, you share poison counters, but what about energy, and experience?
Question tho if you draft are you allowed to trade cards with your partner or is that not allowed? Say you open both packs and pull 2 cards that you know your partner would be able to benefit from is it possible to do this or no? Would be a good strategy imo.
Ok I am so making a Rowan and will Kenrith deck. First off my name is Will, second off, blue is my favorite color three I love instant and sorcery’s and 4 I love to draw cards
haha I know some whos name is will and someone else whose name is rowan and both play magic together.
It’s awesome right, I have been brainstorming cards to put in already tell the people you know about this so they can make commander decks together
Can i be part of the brainstorming?
How about brainstorm
*Ba dum tss*
less wedge = better video
less negative comments = better comment section
I dunno he only seemed to repeat what the professor said whilst leaning so far back he had to look down to look forward lol
I think they are both cringey as hell.
Will this sell due to 2HG interest or for EDH? I'll be buying more for the EDH cards than 2HG.
Sounds groovy prof!!
That's the perfect opportunity to errata Gisela and Bruna (Brisela) with "partners with" for commander purposes
this is going to be an awesome summer!
(Imagines a Brisela version of the Prof and Wedge)
Well that was terrifying
Lovin the velvet suit!
Great video. Great content. Great formatting.
There are some pretty expensive cards in this draft in the form of reprints, If you open a doubling season/ Who keeps it
I am allowed to help my teammate right? Like I understand no notes, but verbal commands/ shaking head yes/no are ok right?
Would love to see Guttersnipe printed in Battlebond, as he would be a bomb for sure. But I also want him printed in one of the Ravnica sets, as I need another go 'round with him in standard.
Name a more iconic duo than Prof an Wedge
Poor professor his partner is an actual potato
Question. When drafting is it that one team acts a one player or each person on a team equals two players. I e. Instead of drafting by yourself. Do you and you teammate pick the two picks together as one per pack?
The Professor. Legendary Creature. Partners with Wedge.
Please tell me they brought back soulbond as a keyword. Although I could see it cause some power issues, just seems like a no brainer for the theme of this set.
When you build your battle Bond deck which is 40 cards does that include lands or are the land separate from the 40?
office's looking swell, proffessor
Something like this on mtg arena or even plane chase would be so fun
I love seeing two really good MTG youtubers pairing up for a neat set of videos on a cool set! Thanks Prof, and thanks Wedge for an awesome series of shows! Keep up the good work!
Wwwooo I love colab videos!
Will there be a prerelease? If so, what date?
Tere were commandercards with Partner bevore. But they didnt had specific Cards written onthem. (in my opinion better)
So are some of theese Cards in the set too? Or only specific ones whith absolutely no flexibility? Dont get me wrong love the idea of the set, like some of the mechanics, but predisigned partnercards seems questionable for me.
Professor, your room is tipping. Do you live near a fault line, by any chance?
is battlebond part of the dominaria block? is it gonna be legal in standard, modern and legacy? i don't get this set at all
Ok say that your team mate loses but you have a platinum angel. Does he die and do you lose still?
Problem. How does the format change a cards ruling. Infect says they lose if they have 10...it legit says it...its a mechanic thing right...yes its reminder text but its like if they changed the ruling to lifelink to "you gain two times the life dealt with this creature" wtfff
like the new background professor.
I'm curios, what would be the ruling if you control Lab Maniac and your teammate draws out?
Sir. I had to tell that you're well dressed af, congratulations for your outfits. Best MTG channel.
Check again :)
810.7. The Two-Headed Giant variant uses the combat rules for the shared team turns option (see rule

805.10b As the declare attackers step begins, the active team declares attackers. For each attacking creature, the attacking team announces which defending player or planeswalker that creature is
attacking. The active team has one combined attack, and that set of attacking creatures must be

each of those attacking creatures. If there are multiple defending players that could be chosen,
the controller of the spell or ability chooses one.
I was unaware of the change. Thanks
So when you open a doubling season with your partner, who gets it?
Are the Battlebond cards going to be legal in modern or only Legacy/Vintage/Commander?
Not my cup of tea, but I think you made a wonderful video!
Got the tolarian prof being awe inspiring and impressive by looking like an actual expert wizard in this video. Grow out the beard and stash a bit more to be master looking. Plus the nice threads really add to the well established wizard. Anyway another awesome video. I hope you keep up this wonderful and very needed service. if you would take an extra turn, does your whole team get an extra turn?
Was excited for this until I learned that of the 254 cards from the set only 85 cards would be new. Don't mind reprints, but for something unique like this I expected a bit more originality, i.e. less reprints.
To be fair, one of those reprints is Doubling Season
Gotta have some hook for people to buy the set.
I am not really getting it, with only 4 packs there are only 56 cards drafted, which means that with 23 cards per player there is no room for any other cards?
hey so when you draft do you get to share the card pool after drafting or no?
Hello Professor,
I have watched a lot of your deckbox reviews. I thought the boxes were great! They all had their own unique thing. But none of them has all these things. So I made a prototype of my own designed deckbox.
My question is: Could you please take a look at my deckbox?
Kind regards,
Matthijs Ebbing
You seem more fluent (movement) on the video than in RL ;D such quality xD
0:31 conspiracy was built around multiplayer so battle bond is not the only one with special gameplay
Conspiracy, though multiplayer, still used the regular rules of Magic. Battlebond uses THG rules, which is a departure from the norm.
Thank you for your continued support of Wedge. He's a gem.
That means you can make a cube with that set too?
