I've seen models like that before. I think they're designed for community rooms for internet access like apartment complexes, libraries, community centers (yes, some senior), and schools. Regarding the external transformer, that's a plus. If it burns out, it can cost you as little a twenty bucks to replace, versus taking the computer apart and getting and sourcing it - if the OEM's price is too high.

So did I. This was a great deal at Costco at the time. Instantly though, I knew the purchase was a mistake instantly, but hey.. it pays the bills. Literally, we only use it to pay the bills. Otherwise, the thing is stays in sleep mode.

Adding a stick of RAM would likely help considerably, as then it would dip into the page file far less, thus helping CPU and disk access.

i used an hp laptop for two years that had almost the same specs as this all-in-one and it was painful. then i switched to a mid 2009 macbook pro that still had its original hard drive and that felt like a breath of fresh air.
Honestly I think windows computers suck in general.. I bought a few computers in the 500$ to $900 range and they weren't great, and then I bought a gaming laptop thinking that it would be a game changer, but it was a $1400 piece of crap, so I just give up with windows and bought a macbook lol it works. all i wanted was a computer for documents, lighter games, and web browsing.

But you got it cheap in garage sale. If you can debloat and get almost 0 CPU usage when doing nothing, it should be ok for basic tasks.

I have a twelve year old webcam with that resolution (and even back then, you could already get 720p webcams, which were expensive however). Image quality is limited, but it still works brilliantly as a microphone.

This would actually be okay as a second computer for my room just for browsing the Internet, using spreadsheets, using Windows movie maker and playing some old games (my main desktop pc has 16 gb ram, an i5 4th gen processor and a 2 tb ssd.)

I work at canadian tire- basically a combination of:
harbor freight tools, TSC, a mechanic shop, walmart (minus the food, clothing and a smaller electronics section) and we sell this computer. its the only one we sell. we havent sold any in 2 years... last ordered in 2018.

I have grown use to the idea HP stands for "Horrible Product", and they have not failed in upholding that image. I have had 4 HP models in my life. All given to me at one time or another, two worked on and upgraded, and all given to either family or donated to those who needed a pc. I didn't even ask for the money invested in upgrading any of them. I was just happy to find them a home and owners who could actually use them. If you really need a PC, HP will do. Might not do well, but will do. I would look for one donated before I would buy one though.

This was my first PC I ever got when I was 6 and I LOVED it so much. Although I couldn’t play all of my games, it was great.

Just looking online, in my country, an amd a12 which is about as good as a g4600 , 8gb, 1tb hdd laptop is $450-500. If you're willing to go second hand, for about $500-600, you can get a dell inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop, 7th gen i5 and a 1050.

top of the range!? speaking from EXPERIENCE using this exact same all in 1 in this video (mines a diff model but literally the exact same) i can tell anyone that this computer is the LOWEST of the low when it comes to gaming or doing ANYTHING
My parents have this exact computer but with the i5 processor instead.
When I was installing an SSD for them, I noticed that there was no heatsink for the CPU and the fan inside is on the wrong side of the motherboard. Literally idles at 90°C.
I find that incredibly hard to believe, it's a cheap machine but HP isn't that stupid.
@Polaris Lakewell HP made several models of the same system, touch screen, more RAM, etc.
The model I have has an I5 6200U processor, this regularly goes above 90°C, HP has obviously configured the CPU to throttle down at high temps to prevent thermal/stability issues.
If you watch the video I linked, you'll see that there is only 1 fan installed in the machine which does nothing but move air around the motherboard. The CPU is on the opposite side against the plastic back with no ventilation.

I'd be very much surprised if they have a different "cooling system" for the AMD model.
In the video you uploaded it looks like there is a heatsink under the fan. Which probably goes to the CPU on the other side of the board.

The people that decide what is sold in a retail store are 50-60 year old executives that know nothing about the products they’re selling, and sadly most retail workers in electronics don’t actually know about electronics at all so people still end up buying horrible products
@@Vengir Because people exist that will buy this anyway because they don't want to spend more money for something decent. At least it has plenty of hard disk space so it's not a 'timebomb' like those HP Stream laptops where it's only a matter of time before the only way to get the latest windows update is to just do a clean install because it's got 32GB of flash and you're out of room.
The sad truth is that even basic tasks increase their hardware requirements over time. Maybe not at the same pace as games and other intensive, but they still do. A "typical grandma" might not be aware of that, but her experience would be better if her machine doesn't take 5 minutes to boot.

Here in NL we can get such insanely cheap packages as "1Gbit up and down for 365 euro a year" on the condition that you pay an entire year up front. Now I am too cheap to do that.
I don't really need anything more than 50Mbit up and down, which costs me all of 14,95 a month at a bring-your-own-modem type ISP.
Internet access here is stupidly cheap. The rest of the world should kind of take an example in that.

My dad bought this for me as my sister to use as a school computer when the whole covid thing started. I can safely agree that this pc is the WORST PC IMAGINABLE. It runs so slow and takes forever to start up something and delete programs.

The website will open, it just won't be instant and you can't have other apps open. don't get me wrong, I would say it's better to buy a pre owned optiplex or something but if it's your only option it's ok

It's really depressing how these budget computers are still sold with 1 tb hard drives instead of a SSD. A 128 gb or 256 gb SSD would make all the difference in start up times.
