*Gorgeous footage and fantastic music, James!* I must...resist...the urge...to cry... 😅😅 Big Congratulations with your new Lumix S5!! Move aside, Spielberg!!
Really love the video. Were the three shots from 4:50 till 5:16 shot on the Vivitar? Is contax zeiss more beautiful than any other type of zeiss, for filmmaking?
Thanks for your comment! Yes it was the Vivitar 19mm for the first shot at 4:50. I’ve not had a lot of play with other Zeiss lenses, but these are beautiful pieces of glass.
@@jamomorrissey Thank you, yes it was only of the first shot at 4:50 that I was nearly certain. Colors/contrast seemed somewhat different. Your video did convince me that Zeiss glass really is worth it ;) I'm considering the 25mm f2 as my first one
Stunning! Your framing and composition are remarkable. I'll be studying this, as I am not very strong with landscapes/architecture and every shot here is a piece of art. Colors are also gorgeous. I also really appreciate the pacing of your video - flashy quick edits are great and everything but if you're looking for cinematographic artistry, a pace like this is absolutely what I want! I also just got an S5 - not as lucky as you with the CZs but I have a nice range of the poor man's equivalent, the Canon FDs. Keep shooting and uploading, this was inspiring!
Thanks for your comment!! Yeah composition is a big part of getting a good image. I have a lot to learn myself. The canon FDs are great lenses! Happy shooting.
@JamesMorrisey so sorry to ask a dumm question here, so you adapted the contax Zeiss to your Lumix S5 with a Sigma MC21...total beginner here...and thanks in advance
Yeah that’s correct. Although, you can use much cheaper dumb adapters (adapters without electronic communication) as the contax zeiss are fully manual lenses.
@@jamomorrissey Fantastic footage. I like the Lumix S5 but I'm disheartened when using my vintage lenses. I only have the 20-60 kit lens. Have you had any problems focusing to infinity on the S5 with vintage lenses with the expensive Sigma adapter? I have bought 3 Kentfaith adapters, which look solid, for cx/y, nikon and canon EF mount lenses and on all lenses I can't get sharp infinity focus. I have contax zeiss 35/1.4, 85/1.4, 60/2.8 makro, and contax 21/2.8, this last one for Nikon mount. I also have the Nikon 180/2.8 AI, the Canon 70-200/2.8, a 35/2.8 tilt shift FD adapted to EF, and the 17-40/4 and they don't focus well at infinity either. I come from Samsung NX1, which is still a wonderful camera, both for colours and image quality (except in slow motion and low light) although it has its drawbacks, and I got adapters that allow me to focus at infinity. Do you think that the Sigma or Viltrox adapters could solve the problem? I have seen that some people have modified some lenses to focus correctly at infinity, but I don't know if this is the case with the Lumix S5 and I wouldn't dare to open the lenses to modify the focusing distance.
@@jamomorrissey Okay yes it just appeared really different from the rest of the batch and that explains why. I like the field of view ! got myself a S5 few days agoo can't wait to try it with my zeiss 18mm f4 ^^ Nice video by the way
I am building myself a set of Zeiss classic lenses and so far i would get a 25mm, 35mm and 85mm. Do you think 25mm is wide enough for landscape shots or is a 21mm a better choice? I am afraid that the 21mm will be too wide for most occasions when you shoot buildings or wide shots of people
Sensational friend! I was searching for videos of the S5 and I came across your video, and using exactly the same CY lenses that I have here on the camera I intend to buy. The combination turned out great, it cheered me up a lot! I would like to know what you think about the vivitar 19mm, is it the version made by cosina? I saw many negative reports of this lens, I even disregarded it for that.
Thanks mate!! Glad I cheered you up. The Vivitar 19mm was a very affordable lens, as opposed to the more expensive Contax 18mm F4. Now, as I don’t really go that wide much of the time I didn’t mind taking a punt on the 19mm F3.8. It’s not bad to be honest. The image is ok, decent sharpness and colours are slightly muted in my opinion. As I’m writing this I do think I need to sit down with this lens and do some more comparisons with modern lenses just to see how good or bad it is…future video perhaps?? Anyways, from my limited use of the lens it’s ok if you’re looking for a very wide angle to use once in a while. An updated and more informed review coming soon!
@@jamomorrissey Thanks for answering, this was exactly my question, I always had the contax 18mm as a goal for wide, but the price is getting higher and higher, so in my searches on ebay I found this vivitar 19mm and the cosina 20mm that are said to be the same lenses, but when researching I saw bad reports, most of them from photographers and very little current video content. But looking at your images and your opinion, I'm more and more sure that this lens is what I'm looking for. A comparison like this would really be great and of great help, especially with modern and more renowned lenses. I will be waiting for your video.
WONDERFUL music to a glorious film of footage. So glad we went there early in the morning. Havent gone through my footage yet.

Such a great collection of beautiful shots. Thanks for the sharing.

Yeah the Vivitar has a milky contrast and doesn’t pop as much as the Contax. Have fun building your set!
Great! You remember which lens at 2:56 (the sailing vessel on the horizon)?
I believe it was the Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm f3.5.
