- Covid-19 hasn’t stopped the spread of billionaires, who multiplied at an astounding rate over the past year. A record 493 people joined Forbes’ World’s Billionaires list this year-meaning the world on average gained a new billionaire every 17 hours since Forbes last took a snapshot of billionaire wealth on March 18, 2020. The previous record for most new billionaires in a year was 290 in 2015.
The average net worth of these 493 newcomers: $2 billion. Their average age: 54 (vs. 63 for the overall list of 2,755 billionaires). A full 84% of them are self-made billionaires, who founded their companies rather than inherited them (vs. 72% for the overall list).

When presented like this, it gives the impression that becoming a billionaire is really easy. Like the guy who just dropped out of Stanford, formed a company and after a SPAC merger he is suddenly worth $2.6 Billion. What you don't see in these videos is the full story. The years of struggle and overcoming various challenges before finding the right product or service which can solve a problem that is worth billions.

@@nda6228 If you’re talking about the overall money supply M1 M2 is misleading. Essentially at the start of the pandemic they reclassified M2 deposits as M1. This makes it look like there is a lot more money in circulation than there is

Honestly... none of these people are billionaires. The reason there are so many billionaires is due to one thing: inflation. 1 billion today was only worth about 315 million in 1980, and a meager 150 million in 1970. Chamath, nor Tim, nor Kim are "real" billionaires. The fact that the list doesn't account for inflation is downright stupid.

Wow during a pandemic there is a new record for new billionaires what a surprise, this year the poor got poorer and the rich got richer, worst part when the world economy recovers it will be an even bigger gap because of all the cheap investments made during the pandemic will recover to its original value before the pandemic. If you were rich and didnt invest heavily in 2020 huge lost opportunity.
