Pikmin is one of my favorite games, and I'm so glad Nintendo is finally giving it the attention it deserves. Though I am a little sad that they didnt give it the Metroid Prime Remastered treatment, and I really would have loved a co-op story mode option for pikmin 2.
Pikmin is such a unique and special franchise. I’m obsessed with exploring a “big” world from a plant sized perspective and hopefully Pikmin gains more traction on the Switch : )
I beat both pikmin 1 and 2 and got all parts/treasures in under week. Never played a pikmin game but I’m glad I did. I had so much fun and I plan to play pikmin 3 before 4 releases in july
I bought this bundle 2 days ago. I was already considering buying a wii again so I can replay these. Pikmin 1 was so much better than I remember. I had never beaten it until now. Pikmin 2 was just as good as I remember. Pikmin 1 is shorter, but to me it’s on par with Pikmin 3. Definitely worth 50 bucks.
Alex, your experiences with pikmin, identically, mirror my own. 1 has such a special place in my heart. My first GameCube game as a 12 year old child. The simplicity and tone of that game will never be replicated again. I still enjoy the sequels and respect them mechanically, but it’s also those additional mechanics that remove them from what I love about the first one.
The only thing I did not like about 2 is the cave diversity, bs rng, and how long some of them are. But it's still a great improvement over 1 (even if I prefer 1 over 2).
This is my first time playing Pikmin 1 and two soon. My first play through of 1 was stressful. I had some wasted days. Lots of days behind on parts. I ended up with 29 out of 30 parts on the last day. As of now on my 2nd play through I’m on day 6 with soon to be 8 parts and maybe more. Pikmin is about improving your times and resource managing. I can see myself replaying 1 a lot based on how short it is. Something I can’t quite say for 3 which was my first Pikmin game. Tha game is less stressful but much longer. So speedrunning it doesn’t sound as fun to me.
Yeah. Been there. But I think that is part of the game - replaying back to your bad days and making improvements and then beating it when you figure it out. Some people say 'there is only 15 hours in the game', ... 30 days, half an hour each, but really, replaying the days ends up being part of the strategy. Pikmin 1 is a great game.
@@michaelSlick50 Update: yeah it is pretty fun Pikmin 1. I ended up finishing my second play through at 19 days with all parts. Beating the final boss was something else. Sort of cheap but funny of what the last item was considering how many Pikmin died.
Definitely. I’d like to try the series, I’m not sure it’ll be my type of game though. I’d be way more likely to try them if it was priced more realistically.
This was a great video highlighting the amazing classics, but I want to help make known one point about pikmin 1's port. There were some major gameplay updates for whistling and throwing pikmin. The whistle is so much more responsive, closer to how it is in 2 and 3. Throwing pikmin feels better than ever since they snap to you much much faster than the original. Something else thats small is that pikmin will pick up pellets after knocking down posys automatically. I couldnt believe my eyes when i saw this lol. Just want to help spread this for pikmin fans that are on the fence about these ports. I personally couldnt put 1 down, these changes go such a long way and made me love the pikmin game that started it all even more.
I don't get all this about Metroid Prime being an amazing remaster. It's literally just the same game with slightly improved graphics and tweaked controls. It isn't incredible - the game itself is, but the remaster is fine.
I hate these kinds of "hd remakes/ports" like a slight upres and that's about it. It might be even worse than just a simple port, mainly because with a straight up port, there are no changes, whilst with these "Hd remakes/ports" It is kind of a middle finger, It is like hey remember this game you like and would love to see updated ? well here you go, we got rid of some blur and pixelations hope you like it. I would rather wait an extra year for a complete make over.
I find this rather sketchy. The price tag is absurd, since they did pratically nothing to add or improve to the experience. This and Mario 3D all Stars are one of the main reasons why Nintendo crusades against to roms and emulation. They don't want you to get this for free they want you to pay 30 bucks each game for the same product.
I fell in love with Pikmin when Pikmin 3 deluxe came out on switch and I got it for Christmas from my grandma. When Pikmin 4 was announced I was so excited to have another game to play as I've never played 1 or 2, so you can imagine my excitement when 1 and 2 for switch got announced. Gonna start new saves and try and 100% all three games before 4 comes out.
Even though I've been playing Pikmin 1 and 2 on the smaller retroid pocket , I am 100% picking this up on the Switch as well! Fingers crossed that we'll see Metroid Prime 2-3 to celebrate the launch of Prime 4 as well!
For years, I've wanted Nintendo to give us Pikmin 1 & 2 with Pikmin 3 gameplay. Like shoulder-button targeting, sending Pikmin to rush enemies with X, better map, better Pikmin AI, the whole package. Porting the Gamecube (well... Wii) originals instead, with nothing but an upscale added to the visuals? I mean, I'll take it. But I'm also slightly disappointed.
They could have at least used some AI upscaling for the textures... This is the very first port from the GameCube/ Wii era where they left the textures absolutely unchanged and they look awful as a result.
Buying these as soon as I catch up on my backlog. Been grinding to finish tears of the kingdom. Plan is to finish Mario + rabbits sparks of hope, then buy pikmin 1 & 2
Still disappointed that they didn't think to give these games the Remaster face lift they so badly deserve. When Metroid Prime Remastered released I was hoping for a Pikmin 1 + 2 Remaster as well. If Nintendo played their cards well they would have released a remaster in Spring. Giving hype to Pikmin. I am glad that they did release these on the Switch, but I am going to hold out until the physical release to replay them. Still can't wait to play Pikmin 4!
Pikmin 1 and 2 were some of my favorite games as a child. Never played 3, but got excited for 4. Replaying them now. It's just as great as I remember. Even aside from the nostalgia, it's amazing.
While Pikmin 2 is arguably the pinnacle of the series - there's something undeniable about the original in presentation and that 30 day timer. Both are such fantastic games.
I am a bit disappointed this isn't of the same quality as Metroid Prime Remastered but beggars can't be choosers and I believe this absolutely opens the door for Metroid Prime 2 and 3 to come over as mere HD upscaled ports but now that begs the question. What GameCube games does Nintendo deem worthy of a Prime Remastered treatment and what simply gets an HD upscale port? I really hope Path of Radiance comes over, I really want to play that game but not paying 300+ for it. I hope as well, this FINALLY opens the door for those Zelda HD ports to finally make it to the Switch. I hope next year is a better year for Zelda simliar to how this year seems like a good year for Mario. Having the HD Zelda ports, and maybe even a new 2D Zelda game or remake of an old title would be awesome additions for 2024 as well as TOTK DLC. Maybe we'll still get that Zelda blowout that was said to happen last year but never did because this year honestly feels like a Mario blow out, a much better celebration than his official anniversary celebration, hope Zelda gets something similar.
Unfortunately the product placement wasn't the only thing to go from 2. The Ai no Uta easter egg that played whenever you had 20 of each Pikmin type is absent, there's a few odd changes like the gemstar husband and gemstar wife being renamed to not include husband and wife, and of course the wollywog/wollyhop change present from the PAL version. Pikmin 2 is one of my all time favorite games and I guess I'm just a purist 😅
Exciting! It's surprising that they released not one but both GC pikmin games, and so close to Pikmin 4's release. Your commentary matches the president's animation at the beginning
Surprised at yet another review failing to make mention of the broken audio in the first game. Nearly every track has been mangled by some neglected error in the code causing the music to twist and bend uncomfortably out of tune and become grating and strange. I can't be the only one to notice this and it's driving me nuts. Not present in the sequel thankfully.
@@nintendolife I feel it could easily be proven with a side by side comparison and it would probably be important for someone do to something like that so this bug will hopefully be noticed and fixed, i really think this game deserves better and so does the consumer, with such a high price for what is essentially a worse product than what you could get over 20 years ago.
Man, that sucks that some of the known brand treasures were changed into fake products. Finding real life products was part of the excitement and charm of the original releases.
I bought 2 when it dropped on switch since its my favorite and love the cave explorations. I always liked 2 for a long time and havent played it until now.
My biggest question is how good the controls are in handheld mode. I played a lot of Pikmin 3, and I always felt that the controls were clearly not built for handheld.
I mean there's a demo for 4 and probably 3, I've heard 2 is the best but I haven't played that one, but 3 is great I have it on my switch and while there is a story, it's not like a huge thing
The only thing I wasn't an immediate fan of were the controls. You have to use L and the right stick to swarm unlike the old method of just using the right stick. The camera controls in-game and on the Piklopedia are also different from the original and you have to basically forget how the old game used to handle the camera. One thing I was disappointed in is the insane glare in the Piklopedia. Don't expect much else besides the original content from both games because aside from visuals, everything is still the same 20 years later. Other than that, this is an amazing port, even some HD versions on Dolphin don't come close to looking this beautiful. Also Pikmin 1 has been fixed so the crushing glitch is near impossible now. As a fan of this series for literally two decades, I would get these so you can have all 4 games on switch including Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Pikmin 4.
yeah, coming to the switch port from only ever playing the gamecube--the controls are by far the hardest thing to get past on this. i guess i get that it's a port of the wii ports and not the gamecube, but the switch controllers have so much more in common with a gamecube controller than wii remotes that i wish they'd reverted the button mapping... i mean, the ZL button does *nothing*, why couldn't it have gone back to being top-down view? why is that mapped to the right control stick? why can't i switch pikmin type i'm throwing with the d-pad (which i STILL haven't figured out what the new mapping for that is)? *whew*. anyways, glad to see someone else brought that up--guess a lot of people played the first two on the wii rather than gcn.
As with many of Nintendo’s beloved franchises, the Switch exclusive Pikmin 4 is my introduction to the franchise, as I was never a big Nintendo gamer growing up. I played the PlayStation and PC primarily. However, I now see why many love the Pikmin franchise. I just immediately fell in love with Pikmin 4, it’s a very unique, fun, and exciting take on the RTS genre. And that’s why I find myself playing my Switch more than my PS5 or PC, cause literally each game is a different genre and type, and it makes for a very fun and fresh experience each time. I’m definitely going to pick up the Switch ports of the first three Pikmin games.
Wow. I’ve legit never played a single Pikmin game, downloaded PKM 4 demo, LOVED it; never played anything like it, tried PKM 3 demo, felt the same. Buying PKM 1 right now. I can’t believe I have 3 games of this amazing series I have yet to play!’ I love Nintendo!!
2 criticisms: 1; I hate the new logos/icons. 2; I do not like the new camera controls and wish I could change them back to the classic controls so that I can issue orders with the c-stick instead of L+c-stick.
*Icons/logos specifically on the Switch main menu when selecting the game, but the brands being removed are also a shame, in addition to attract mode being removed.
I am glad to have them on the switch and while the hd upres is nice i do wish they would have been completely remade in 3's artstyle cus that game looks gorgeous and the fact we waited a decade between 2 and 3 and a decade between 3 and 4 there was plenty of time to completely remaster these. For what they are it does feel a bit too expensive but they are still very good games.
This is my first time playing Pikmin since we only had the money for one game console and went with play station. I feel like I had way better control of the pikmin in 1 and in 2 they would run off doing things I didn’t want them to do a lot more often which lead to some frustration. I don’t dislike 2 but I like 1 more
Two great games, but the price is completely off on this one. These are 2 games that are 20+ years old, emulated and slapped on a cartridge, with barely anything else done to them aside from AI upscaling the cutscenes and redrawing a few of the UI elements (with most of it still being stretched). Asking 50$ for such a lazy and bare-bones package is insulting, especially to fans of the franchise. I'll just stick to the GC or Wii versions, thanks.
Is pikmin worth it? The bugs alone are worth it. I swear you will get a good laugh when you see the pikmin rolling the libra to the dolphin instead of carrying 😂
I've only played Pikmin 1 so far but I think the best thing about it is how short the game is, making it more of a Speedrun Indi game than a Nintendo game.
Yea im one of those gamers that loves having physical copies of my games soooooo i guess im waiting until they finally release those in September :/ i played original pikmin and 2 on gamecube that got lost back in my nostalgic memory lockbox. Cant wait to have all 4 in my collection eventually :) ❤😊
Wait, you think Pikmin 2 is much easier? STRONG disagree, I think Pikmin 2 is way harder because of the caves and I honestly don't like it because of how brutally difficult it is.
Why would they charge 60 bucks for these games? Do they not want people to play the new Pikmin? Do they not want new fans or something? I honestly do not understand. A game from 2001 with HD make over, let as many play it, so they wanna get the new pikmin.
I tried pikmin on the wii u. Maybe 2? Can’t remember. I hated it. I love Nintendo and I appreciate Miyamoto san so much, but pikmin is so not my jam. I really can’t see the appeal. Maybe I’ll try it once more, but I disliked it so much…..
I hated Pikmin 3 because of the gameplay mechanics and the stupid juice you had to keep making. It all felt so unnecessary. Pikmin 1 felt so rushed to me I wanted to just wander around and see everything. I feel as though 2 hit the sweet spot for me and was really fun. I’m currently playing it on the Wii U but wonder if it makes more sense to play on the switch.
I tried 1 for the first time to prepare for 4. I instantly understood why so many love this series. 4 can’t come soon enough.

Exactly. It is a little painful to figure the games out, and sometimes you may need to start your day over and retry, but they are such good games.
i feel like its the fun off pikmin... exploring the world with its awesome fauna the ??? makes it all the bether
Lazy they arent 60fps but man they are wonderful games! If you dont want both id highly suggest the 2nd as its better then 1 and has more content.
I'm glad they ported these. Hopefully more people can try these games and help pikmin 4 sell more
I bought this bundle 2 days ago.
If portal 1+2 can be $20 then why wouldn’t Pikmin 1+2 be around that? I know they’re great games but these can barely be considered remastered lol
Should be $20 for both games.
Definitely. I’d like to try the series, I’m not sure it’ll be my type of game though. I’d be way more likely to try them if it was priced more realistically.
@@7milesdavis There's a Demo for the 3rd (and soon 4th in another day or so) game you could try instead.
I want to buy them but these would have been perfect at 20 bucks i dunno why they have to always jack up the prices
I agree, it’s just too expensive.
Can't believe they didn't go with 60fps for this release, perhaps to keep expectations in check for Pikmin 4? Still, somewhat disappointing.
The rerelease looks great but I think playing it emulated with the HD texture pack/widescreen hack is still superior
Not even 60fps. And no physical yet.
Funny how the main complaint was that they removed the ads. Leave it to Nintendo to use brand placement in a way that will have fans missing it.
I would love to play 1 and 2, since I never did on the GC, but the price is insane, 50€ for a port with upscaled assets...
They could have at least used some AI upscaling for the textures... This is the very first port from the GameCube/ Wii era where they left the textures absolutely unchanged and they look awful as a result.
From what I saw the games also struggled to hit 30fps, looked pretty bad lol
people say that gamecube games dont age is crazy
Alex, I truly believe that you may be God. I'll prove it one day.
Buying these as soon as I catch up on my backlog. Been grinding to finish tears of the kingdom. Plan is to finish Mario + rabbits sparks of hope, then buy pikmin 1 & 2
When I found out pikmin was on switch like an hour after getting home from work and 4 hours after the direct I bought it IMMIDIATELY
Buy physical. They are way too expensive for digital. But thats a bargain for physical
There is no physical until September
atleast this is 50 bucks for both games and not each.
Nintendo rereleases tend to be unusually high priced.
It IS high priced.
The timer was the absolute worst part of Pikmin
I would love to play them if the physical version was released before September :(
While Pikmin 2 is arguably the pinnacle of the series - there's something undeniable about the original in presentation and that 30 day timer.
I recomend try both games if you are just getting into the series, these are also great to play while waiting for Pikmin 4
It's featured in my personal thoughts at the end.
@@nintendolifeMy bad, I didn't realize cause I thought it would've been in the first section of the video.
Although I'm sure I can hear it, I can't prove it with evidence, so it didn't feel right to include it in the main review for the sake of fairness.
Ive only ever played the deluxe version of 3 and i loved it so much so ofc i had to cope it. 3 days later and i already replayed the first one twice.
I've never played any pikmin game before should I get 1+2 or 3? Or wait for 4.
Same question for me
I mean there's a demo for 4 and probably 3, I've heard 2 is the best but I haven't played that one, but 3 is great I have it on my switch and while there is a story, it's not like a huge thing
I've never played a Pikmin before, but I'm looking forward to finally trying it when the physical version drops!
4!
You forgot 2 player yellow marble challenge
2 criticisms: 1; I hate the new logos/icons. 2; I do not like the new camera controls and wish I could change them back to the classic controls so that I can issue orders with the c-stick instead of L+c-stick.
*Icons/logos specifically on the Switch main menu when selecting the game, but the brands being removed are also a shame, in addition to attract mode being removed.
@@walkerpierce5446i get what you mean but once i realized the game icon is in reference to the japanese box art i was fine with it
Rip Duracell battery😔
Obviously im very excited to re experience all pikmin games when sept rolls around. Shockingly enough i just got my pikmin 3 game in the mail a couple days ago and only played a tiny bit so far but know that i think i finally found SOMETHING to intrigue me to actually play my switch i fricken love pikmin. Cant wait to have all 4 in my collection eventually :) ❤😊
Wait, you think Pikmin 2 is much easier? STRONG disagree, I think Pikmin 2 is way harder because of the caves and I honestly don't like it because of how brutally difficult it is.
Oh man do I feel old remembering these games... I thought Pikmin was really impressive at the time. I rented it and never got too far.
I loved pikmin 3 but they really should’ve made a remake. 2 is passable but 1 looks like crap. Sorry but it’s true.
Will buy 4 tho, looks awesome
When is the physical version of these games coming out?
September 22nd. 😒
do I have pikmin 1 + 2 for the gamecube already? yes. will I be buying the switch physical copies in september? well of course
Im sorry but Im hard passing on the switch port. Just get an emulator and a texture pack (both are free). You'll thank me later.
been getting platinums on every challenge in pikmin 3 because i can't afford 1 and 2's switch versions hahaha
I think it was a bad port.. It could have been better produced, but that's ok..
shout out to all my 30 year old homies who grew up on the gamecube version of these games lol. 4:3 all day baby.
HA! You h boy y’all are in for a treat, Pikmin 2 is WAY WAY WAY harder compared to one
Pikmin is goated and deserves all the success it can get, so 100% yes.
If it's the Wii version I assume the GameCube controller won't work?
is the pikmin 2 remaster capable of having 2 player coop in the story? or is it still just challenege mode
