- I've played a lot of Pikmin 2 mods in my day and am always asked about which one was my favorite so here's my thoughts on Pikmin 2 and it's progression system as well as a discussion on how Colossal Caverns is my favorite way to play through Pikmin 2 on repeat playthroughs :)

Colossal Caverns and its cult following is sorta proof that Pikmin 2 caves are actually very cool and fun when you aint got a brittany in your ear saying they suck. Real talk though, this mod is a masterpiece.
I honestly was surprised to fines out how many people hated caves, I love them in pikmin 2 and its one of my favorite things about the game

@@mrman_4234same. It's a really interesting shift from pikmin's typical time management focused gameplay. I feel like expanding on the combat was a great idea.
Colossal Caverns is literally a big, sprawling, interconnected level that you try to complete in as little time as possible. Does that sound more like caves or the overworld levels to you? Cave layouts, challenging enemies, etc. were never the problem and in fact, they're great, especially when stitched together like in CC. It's the disconnected and segmented nature of caves that just wrecks the pacing of Pikmin 2, which is otherwise a fantastic game.
@@charlesc4377That's funny because every single complaint about caves i've seen in my life is cave layout, challenging enemies, etc.
It may not be your issue with the caves, but it definitely is the general opinion
Thank you so much for making this, it was a great watch! Colossal Caverns is something that I can still be proud of to this day, even if just for the concept alone. It really does feel like the perfect compliment to what Pikmin 2 established. Some day I definitely want to go back and clean up a lot of its flaws, but just knowing its so loved, even with all the wacky Pikmin 2 jank intact, it really makes my day.

Colossal Caverns is so good, that it actually makes me angry that Nintendo never made a Pikmin roguelike. The pieces were all right there in Pikmin 2

This mod has some the most craziest replay value. People really need try this mod.
I played this a few months ago and it’s such a unique take on Pikmin 2. It takes the best parts of Pikmin 2 while being so unique. I remember when I played it, I accidentally walked into the final boss and it took over an hour of on and off fighting while always seeing it in the distance and the final boss theme playing on and off.
I love how Colossal Caverns doesn’t need to change much to be successful. The gameplay loop is already established and highlights the strength of the Pikmin 2 caves, combat, and treasure collecting. All the extra options and goodies to play around with just make it that much more special.

I wish this were playable in the actual games. The caves in Pikmin 2, for me, are mostly hindered by the need to reset the whole game, rather than just the floor. The caves themselves are interesting to play as a sub-area.

I had chuggaconroy when I was 6, now I have Heff when I’m 24. I listen to your videos while studying for nursing school. Makes everything tolerable
how does that work in a timeline? Chugga did his Pikmin 1 lp 13 years ago and started doing youtube 16 years ago. If you are 24 now then chugga would have started when you were 8.

Absolutely amazing analysis
I played this romhack a while back and it was real fun. Unfortunately when I played it, the game consistently crashed every time you obtained the Key, so aside from getting every treasure it was impossible to actually finish. Plus I wish there was a version that worked with the Wii version, as I'm not a fan of the GC controls.
But regardless it was fun. I loved using the WaterWraith as my own personal Steam-roller.

I thought I clicked on another CC stream, instead I came across one of my newfound favorite Pikmin documentary videos. I love Pikmin 2 so much and I think I'll try out this mod when I get the chance. Awesome video

Having just completed Pikmin 4, I have to say that Pikmin 2 was the best. I had no idea that the game had mods, so I guess now is time for the real challenge

That update didnt went through and the mod hasnt being worked on the last few years. Pikhacker said he would start reworking colossal caverns, once he has time for it.
Idk the power needed for this mod. But for measurement, I can play it on the Steam Deck at native resolution.
I’m so glad I got a PC so I can play Pikmin hacks now. I played over 150 hours of pikmin 2 just last year. I’ve been itching for something new lol

hey heff, if you are reading this, a new really good mod called pikmin 216 came out recently, I would recomend it.
Hear me out. A pikmin 2 remaster with pikmin 3 updated graphics and mechanics. Pikmin 4 is a little different from the rest and Pikmin 2 is still the top of the chain link for me

It sounds fun but part of me is sad at the lack of progression. I enjoy progression and without any form of gating the openness can feel empty and pathless.
