I converted a 10" miter into a steel cutter.. however a CAUTION to those out there. Clamping the work is ABSOLUTELY crucial. There is no holding the piece down and trimming a bit off.. the blade will catch the piece and take it from you, probably slicing you as well. I was trying to simply trim a little piece of tubing.. thinking it was just like wood, easy peasy, hold it down. The blade caught the work and shot it out the back, straight through multi layers of a fan. It traveled maybe 30 feet at least after that! It is amazing the cuts you get, but please keep things clamped. I have recently learned it's not necessary to clamp the waste side down, only the work side.

I am pumped to see this as I just got a really beat up Makita compound slider for $20 and it now works OK. I was wondering if applying wax as a Lubricant would help the blade live longer? Are these blades designed for specific RPM?

Great video! But I'm confused...putting a 7" blade on a 12" miter saw still wouldn't slow it down enough to be in league with metal cutoff saws, right? It's obviously working for you, but is the trade-off that you're more likely to overheat, break teeth, or maybe get metal shavings in your motor? What do I know? I don't understand how a 4" grinder at 6k rpm is ok, but people say your 10" chop saw should be at 600rpm for metal (the maths don't work)
Use cutting fluid when cutting thick bar and you should be fine mate. I always wondered about putting a stone blade in my flexvolt dewalt mitre saw but since its a 1200 quid saw I've never had the balls to do it. I am tempted to make a clamp and arm that I can attach a cheap large angle grinder to and make a solid guard so that I can cut through steel as though it's a mitre saw!
I suspect that the bar you chickened out of cutting (for good reason) would have cut easier if you'd clamped it at 90 degrees. Like, on the edge. That's subject, of course, to the max. cut thickness on the saw. But if the workpiece fit edge-on it would have presented less area to the blade and gone easier. (For the same reason as your back-space suggestion at the end.) Just a suggestion mate. Great vid, BTW. Well done.
I can not recall specifically but that might of maxed out the depth of cut, I think for sure I could get through it… but your right I chickened out. No point ruining a blade just to cut a test. I have used the blade a lot since then on pipe and I am still really impressed both in the cheap saw and the blade
Just getting into knife making as a hobby and was looking at me battery ozito saw and thinking shit I reckon she can do it surely there's a blade that can do it bloody legend googled her and you're the second video that pops up the other bloke fidgets with the arbor and slaps a grinding disk on it cause the cutting discs can't spin that fast but I don't want to make a 10mm cut so your video was perfect exactly what I'm looking for to cut bars down now I can save money on 300mm and just get big bastards for half the price and chop em down will be a max of 6mm so the blade will live forever if I go slow and let her keep cool
if you are paying $300 for saw blade I hope they gave you vasoline with it, Diablo 7 1/4 steel demon $30 and I have been cutting !/4 steel plate for a month and still haulin ass unbelievable! and I'm powering it with old 5400rpm skill saw
What exactly did you do? Simply switched from a wood blade to a carbide steel blade? Miter saws spin too fast for metal, so how did you slow down the rpm?
also tip use rubbing alcohol to spray on the blade when cutting it will super cool the blade DONT USE FORCE mild gentle pressure will save breaking teeth

Why speed up the cuts? people watching would get a better idea of what the blade cuts like by watching its real life performance. if its going to take half an hour per cut, sped up to 3 minutes say, we don't get any idea how good/bad it is.
Nice video and and advice for the spacing. I have a 60 year old band saw at my work and it's such a burden trying to get it to cut straight. I think I've talked my boss into getting a setup similar to yours and now I will be able to cut angles as well.

You seem to be cutting some hefty metals, but I mainly use copper/brass/copper. Largest size is 60mm rod aluminium. Reckon this would handle it without killing it?
Hey man I need to cut two things I need to cut wood for a shed project and I also need to cut a trailer coupler witch is 1/4 thick I'd like to buy a saw that can handle wood and thick hard metal my budget is a big deal so I'd like to know what saw should I buy to cut metal and 2x4s ? I don't mind buying multiple blades and 1 saw I want a saw that will cut the metal perfectly.
If you only need to cut the trailer coupler metal rarely go for this option, get a decent saw and pay for the blade. Just check the operating speeds and your set.

If the speeds match up it should work, I don’t know about spindle sized and what depth of cuts you will be able to achieve. With all the different saws having different guarding you would be best to measure with a tape and see. 12 inches is huge, in general you are in the territory of real cold cut saws and the blades start costing half the price of the expensive machines themselves. Really depends what you plan on cutting and how much you plan on cutting
To help clear out the chips Or cool the blade? I think it would make the cut with a fresh battery and more patience. But fear of cooking the disk held me off pushing it to the limits

he was using a 7 1/4" metal blade. this way both the blade and the saw had similar RPM ratings.

I have a Bosch GCM 8 SJL Mitersaw with 5.500 rpm, can I use my saw to cut steel pipes with this blade or can you recommend a good blade for me?

how many cuts can it make? whats the downside? in economical perspective is it viable vs abrasive chop saw?

I made no modifications, as long as the blade is rated for the rpms of the saw you are happy

both the saw and the blade will have the max RPM. Usually you will need a smaller diameter metal blade. he was using a 7 1/4" metal blade

I have used big cold cuts for stainless I didn’t know they made ones this size, I guess just more teeth
