Danny Kaye was a genius! I loved him so much! Red Skelton was my 2nd favorite! They do not have that Caliber of Comedians anymore! It's sad what our children and grandchildren are missing out on. These men gave me so much Joy in my life! Thankyou so much!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I was blessed enough to share this planet with Danny Kaye, but never lucky enough to actually see him in person. He was a wonderful actor, singer, dancer, and human being. He was also one of a kind. RIP darling Danny!
As a child I adored Danny Kaye. Saw every movie he was in. When he came back to the London Palladium after his first success there, my parents took me to see him. I was about 5 years old and SO excited to see him in person. At some point in his show, he sat down on the edge of the stage - and asked if anyone had a cigarette. My parents heard he would do this, and before I knew it, they put a cigarette in my hand, set me down on the walkway to the stage - and told me to go there. I started out, very shyly....and Danny saw me and encouraged me to come to the stage. I did. Slowly. Anxiously. When I got there, he picked me up and sat me down beside him and took the cigarette. He said "Do you have a light?" I didn't. And started to cry. He then worked his magic with children and in seconds I was laughing hysterically at this wonderful man. From then on, I wanted to be on stage like my hero. I met him again a little more than a decade after that - when he was taping his shows at CBS studios in Los Angeles. I loved that man. When I told him I wanted to be in show business...he told me I could come to any rehearsal and taping of his show there...and if I was smart - I would look, listen and learn! And so I did.
I have read almost all of the comments from people who watched Danny as a child and were enthralled with his talents. Looking back, I know I was exposed to "The Court Jester" and a few other of his comedy routines, but it didn't move me at the time. Looking back I realize I felt numb, I could look at all he was doing and it just didn't touch or interest me at all. But I experienced trauma as a young child and life was very, very serious to me -- something you had to work hard to survive. I never even realized how that trauma affected me until I read all these comments and realized how I had been blinded to the joy when I was young. But looking at these clips now, I realize what I missed. Thank you, George Pollen.
If you are a baby boomer you remember Danny Kaye, the only entertainer who remembered what a joy it is to be a child. He brought innocence, charm, and love to everyone and made one remember what a treasure it is to be alive, to be kind, gentle, thoughtful and as funny as you can be. I loved him very much and feel quite lucky to have been on the planet Earth at the same time he was.

In 1965 I worked at TRW in Lawndale CA. Several of my co workers shared a car pool and rode on the Sam Diego Freeway to and from work, One day we saw a big red Cadillac convertible drive by us and the license plate on it was "KAYE", we saw Danny Kaye driving and we all shouted and waved, and he waved back. The traffic slowed and we coght up to his car and were thrilled to talk to him and shared our compliments about his films ---- a great experience !!!

oh my gosh! I love this biography- always did love DK- but , oh oh oh! here where it shows him doing the voice of tubby the tuba?!- well this was a life changer for me! My parents got me this album, as a child, and so as a result, in 6th grade- I started playing the tuba!! And, I still play it today- 50 years later. With the Oroville Community Concert Band. I still have my 50 year old Miraphone tuba. Oh--- this is truly a great post here- to see that it was Danny Kay who was the tuba voice- as I'd forgotten. Thank you!
Loved Danny Kaye. He made albums for children: as well as movies for general audiences. He was a child's dream. As I grew up, I found out he's catering to adults now. I was already sold. The absolute top in his field of entertainment.
I was in love with Danny Kaye as a little girl in the 60s. I faithfully watched his variety TV show. I also loved the Beatles too. But Danny Kaye had a special place in my heart. He was definitely a renaissance man of the arts. Just a brilliant creative genius... I'm so glad UA-cam is preserving the historical talent of this man. Alas, seeing him here can only hint at the magnitude of this man's talent, but it's something.

Oh, the inspired madness of _The Inspector General_ and _The Court Jester_ ...two of my very favorites... and all the rest of his movies! He was a comic genius who could also be brilliant while playing a quite serious role. I loved and respected him from afar, but I always thought he was a bit like the sun: standing too close would have dazzled certainly, but maybe even have been enough to slightly injure lesser folk. His movies were what I craved, they never get old for me.
My mother introduced me to all his films. As a child, he was a friend who made me laugh, but he could do anything well! I think I loved him also, because he was always the underdog, much like the Ugly Duckling". He was always a swan to me!
As a Dane, I owe Danny Kaye special thanks. Most danes who have any notion of recent history does. He sang "Wonderfull, Wonderfull Copenhagen" and put us on the map, more than any of his kind had ever done. Danny Kaye. A man of the world.

Mr Kaye was and always will be sheer genius, as a younger man i was introduced to his talent and sheer joy that he gave me and the world. I still miss him soo very much.
I remember his last movie. There wasn't a second of comedy in it and he was totally riveting. He played a man whose worst nightmare had crossed the sea, came into his place of safety, and was preparing to march through his home. There was a radio show that was supposed to dedicate an hour to him, it turned into 5 hours of people calling in and talking about him instead! That's how much he was loved! I miss him very much.
Thank you for putting this togetter Mr. Pollen. I'm following Danny Kaye through his films on Roku and through UA-cams such as yours. To think, he never finished high school! Through research I found he was not only a performer, but also an accomplished jet pilot, a baseball team owner and a chef. "Genius" is the word I think of with every piece of his life I encounter. His wacky physical comedic performances were forerunners to Robin Williams' and Jim Carrey's. But unlike the later two, his life didn't follow the same dark path. His brilliant wife and his connection to UNICEF I feel contributed this. I suppose too it was because he was a survivor. He overcame disappointments and setbacks that would cause folks of today to kill themselves over. I also wonder if he survived his setbacks because of his Jewish heritage; if he thought that his obstacles were small compared to the obstacles Jews in Nazi Germany had to overcome.
When I was on my US Naval Academy summer cruise in 1972, our 2nd port of call was Copenhagen, Denmark. We got to see Danny Kaye at the “Rebuild” festival July 4th. He and Ronald Reagan, then Governor of California, were the featured celebrities at the Danish-American event. It goes without saying that Danny was the hit performer, most memorable was giving the press one minute of all his famous poses. Unforgettable! I consider him my hero of creativity, making children laugh and exhibiting some of the best traits of being AMERICAN.
My 1st exposure to classical music was tubby the tuba. The other side of the album was Peter and the Wolf. I had the melody memorized at 4 yrs old. I went on to be a music major and played violin my whole life. I adored Danny in Hans Christian Andersen. Inch worm, thumbelina, ugly duckling were my favorites. I still love the memory of this magic man. He made music so exciting. Love his memory still!
I loved Danny Kaye as a child, my mother took me to see his films and they bought the songs from Hans Christian Anderson on 78's! A great stack of them in a hard folder with each record in a paged sleeve like a book. I wish I could have met him, he was such an interesting, complex person who seemed to excel at everything he attempted. Thanks George.

I only knew Danny Kaye by watching his old movies. I love them all, but White Christmas is my all time favorite. We lost a great man and entertainer when he died.

I cant express the love I have for him and his work. Many a Saturday and holidays I spent watching his films, Thanksgiving would not be the same without Danny Kaye and today I share his works with my children especially Hans CA and the songs the Ugly Little Duckling and Thumbelina. A great entertainer with a clean act. Not like the vulgarity we deal with in today's spot light. Hollywood and comedy has changed a lot over the years. I'm glad his work and character can still be enjoyed on DVD.

True comedy, in my opinion, doesn't involve crude tasteless humor, or vulgar language. True comedy was found in the mind and talents of this amazing man, he was and i believe is the personification of true comic genius. Nobody could match the brilliance that was Danny Kaye.

"The Court Jester" ( I think that was the name of the movie) was one of the funniest, wittiest, tongue-in-cheek movies I have ever seen. We saw this movie multiple times as kids, and then as an adult on TCM and TVO ( with the wonderful Elwy Yost). We loved it so much as kids that many of the lines became part of our family vernacular (as I'm sure it did with others). "The pellet with the poison's in the Flagon with the Dragon. The Vessel with the Pestle has the brew that is true". And.."Get it? Got it. Good ! " Danny Kaye just shone in so many movies. If The Court Jester didn't make you laugh, well...you'd best check your pulse. Thank you Mr. Kaye, for some wonderful childhood memories.
When I came to Canada from Israel, age 6, Hans Christian Anderson was the movie of the day and my parents (and I) fell in love with Danny. That love affair continues (even later with my younger sisters.
I met Danny Kaye... when I was 10 and it was a birthday party when Danny and Artur (Arthur) Rubenstein were together for their birthdays are just 10 days apart. I was in the California Boys Choir and he did his funny conducting He was 65 and extremely funny conducting us. REALLY. Artur was in his 80's. Amazing and wonderful memories 🤗😏😏
Wow. What a privilege to have had that experience ... all that cultural brilliance and character in one room! Did you get to hear the Maestro play piano? Had you seen any of Danny Kaye's films? A lot of people don't know how sophisticated he was and that he loved to educate young people on classical music. I'm only 17 minutes into the documentary. Maybe they do address his contribution to other aspects of the arts (and charity and humanitarian work) later in life.

There was a radio show that was supposed to dedicate an hour to him, it turned into 5 hours of people calling in and talking about him instead! That's how much he was loved! I miss him very much.
Thank you for putting this togetter Mr. Pollen. I'm following Danny Kaye through his films on Roku and through UA-cams such as yours. To think, he never finished high school! Through research I found he was not only a performer, but also an accomplished jet pilot, a baseball team owner and a chef. "Genius" is the word I think of with every piece of his life I encounter. His wacky physical comedic performances were forerunners to Robin Williams' and Jim Carrey's. But unlike the later two, his life didn't follow the same dark path. His brilliant wife and his connection to UNICEF I feel contributed this. I suppose too it was because he was a survivor. He overcame disappointments and setbacks that would cause folks of today to kill themselves over. I also wonder if he survived his setbacks because of his Jewish heritage; if he thought that his obstacles were small compared to the obstacles Jews in Nazi Germany had to overcome.

When I was on my US Naval Academy summer cruise in 1972, our 2nd port of call was Copenhagen, Denmark. We got to see Danny Kaye at the “Rebuild” festival July 4th. He and Ronald Reagan, then Governor of California, were the featured celebrities at the Danish-American event. It goes without saying that Danny was the hit performer, most memorable was giving the press one minute of all his famous poses. Unforgettable! I consider him my hero of creativity, making children laugh and exhibiting some of the best traits of being AMERICAN.
My 1st exposure to classical music was tubby the tuba. The other side of the album was Peter and the Wolf. I had the melody memorized at 4 yrs old. I went on to be a music major and played violin my whole life. I adored Danny in Hans Christian Andersen. Inch worm, thumbelina, ugly duckling were my favorites. I still love the memory of this magic man. He made music so exciting. Love his memory still!

I loved Danny Kaye as a child, my mother took me to see his films and they bought the songs from Hans Christian Anderson on 78's! A great stack of them in a hard folder with each record in a paged sleeve like a book. I wish I could have met him, he was such an interesting, complex person who seemed to excel at everything he attempted. Thanks George.

@@robertmanning3922 I have the set of DK’s 78’s in a hard folder that were my mother’s. I haven’t looked at them in years and it has been decades since I had a player for 78’s. The set has Minnie the Moocher. I wish I could listen to then once more.

Sherry Gorman That's my favorite too. When I watch it, I know I'm supposed to be swooning over Bing, but when Danny Kaye sings 'The Best Things Happen When You're Dancing" I am just lost to the world until the number is over. He was wonderful.
I cant express the love I have for him and his work. Many a Saturday and holidays I spent watching his films, Thanksgiving would not be the same without Danny Kaye and today I share his works with my children especially Hans CA and the songs the Ugly Little Duckling and Thumbelina. I often wonder what life would be like if people like Danny were around today. Danny you will always be in our hearts and memories.

He could dance, sing, act. He was multi talented, He do comedy, serious roles. He was one of a kind. He was often imitatied never duplicated.

A great entertainer with a clean act. Not like the vulgarity we deal with in today's spot light. Hollywood and comedy has changed a lot over the years. I'm glad his work and character can still be enjoyed on DVD.

True comedy, in my opinion, doesn't involve crude tasteless humor, or vulgar language. True comedy was found in the mind and talents of this amazing man, he was and i believe is the personification of true comic genius. Nobody could match the brilliance that was Danny Kaye.

When I was a little kid I got separated from my mom in a crowd at the C.N.E. a kind man lifted this crying little kid, so I could see over the crowd to find my mom, when my mom ran up she was flabbergasted to see me in Danny Kaye's arms, we saw him perform that night, he was amazing, I became a true fan,
an amazing little story, also perfectly shows the man's humanity

Your mother must have been speechlessly starstruck (not to mention relieved she'd found you)! Or maybe Mr. Kaye had a calming aura ... No, even if he did there was something magical about him-he was larger than life yet so down-to-earth, a beautiful soul and IMHO absolutely gorgeous, and undeniably elegant. Thank you for sharing your story. It made me tear up. Danny Kaye had already left this earth before I discovered his genius, but I try to expose all of my friends (and their children, if applicable) to it.

"The Court Jester" ( I think that was the name of the movie) was one of the funniest, wittiest, tongue-in-cheek movies I have ever seen. We saw this movie multiple times as kids, and then as an adult on TCM and TVO ( with the wonderful Elwy Yost). We loved it so much as kids that many of the lines became part of our family vernacular (as I'm sure it did with others). "The pellet with the poison's in the Flagon with the Dragon. The Vessel with the Pestle has the brew that is true". And.."Get it? Got it. Good ! " Danny Kaye just shone in so many movies. If The Court Jester didn't make you laugh, well...you'd best check your pulse. Thank you Mr. Kaye, for some wonderful childhood memories.

When I came to Canada from Israel, age 6, Hans Christian Anderson was the movie of the day and my parents (and I) fell in love with Danny. That love affair continues (even later with my younger sisters.

I met Danny Kaye... when I was 10 and it was a birthday party when Danny and Artur (Arthur) Rubenstein were together for their birthdays are just 10 days apart. I was in the California Boys Choir and he did his funny conducting He was 65 and extremely funny conducting us. REALLY. Artur was in his 80's. Amazing and wonderful memories 🤗😏😏
Wow. What a privilege to have had that experience ... all that cultural brilliance and character in one room! Did you get to hear the Maestro play piano? Had you seen any of Danny Kaye's films? A lot of people don't know how sophisticated he was and that he loved to educate young people on classical music. I'm only 17 minutes into the documentary. Maybe they do address his contribution to other aspects of the arts (and charity and humanitarian work) later in life.
That's the thing about greatness Bernstein also had it and could be so down to earth. Real very real people.
