My mum used to watch this show with me when I was a kid. She wanted me to love classical music, and thanks to her and Mr. Kaye, I love it. Now I am listening to this with my 8-month old baby boy :)
One of a kind. Epic. Absolute genius. And he couldn't read music at all. But he knew these works by heart to be able to conduct in such a precise way and poke fun at the same time. I have this on video, got it for my Dad when it was available. He's gone now, but when I watch this I think of him. He was a concert violinist as a hobby.
I will join the chorus of those here, thanking you from the bottom of my heart for this treasure. I watched it with my grandfather and it was the best moment we ever had.
This man is a great Entertainer all the joy he brought to a lot of people over many years as a comedian and he didn't have to use profanity and abusive speech to achieve this that's where the real talent comes through
I saw this on Dutch TV in the 1980s - have tried to find it on VHS, then on DVD - no such luck! Thank you for posting this! What a musical all-round talent he was - 'brilliant' does not even begin to describe it!
I can nevergetting enough watching this joyfull amazing performance..All I rememeber my whole life there is only one , but one Only .Danny Kay. His soul shall rest in peace.
Standard March beat is 120beats per minute... when the orchestra hit the last bridge, if they had been leading the parade, they've had a three or four block advantage... This particular Sousa march captures all of the pride, confidence and swagger of 19th century America. The way Danny Kaye operated the orchestra, they hit the 1st turn, and accelerated away from the field....
Danny Kaye is such a lovely, wise and kind fellow! I just watch this entire video and wow it touches my heart every time! If only we had someone like him nowadays.. he brings out the childlike optimism in me! And the joy of hearing such lovely music! 😊 ❤️
.. sometimes i just want some good, dare i say 'old fashioned' entertainment and where better to turn.. especially in these days.. would probably never heard of him if it wasn't for my mother, she was a huge fan in the forties and fifties.. thankyou mum.. 🙂 (not Jewish! LoL) 🙂
Why is Ravel's BOLERO missing between Strauß and Tschaikowsky? That is precisely what is extremely entertaining and funny. I know because I have it on an old videotape.
For the life of me I can’t recall the name of the tune, part of which was used as the theme song for a Tv commercial back in the 60’s through the 80’s. Danny Kaye intros the piece by saying, “For all those men and women who use electric razors”. I must have heard this jingle a million times growing up in the 50’s to the 80’s when this was used but can’t recall the name of the tune/march or the name of the product it was used for and it’s driving my 68 year old brain crazy. It starts at 01:01:48. Anybody out there help me out?
Some research tells that it was called “Look Sharp,” and it was the Gillette sports theme. If you have children that played Nintendo, it was also used on Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.
GRAZIE! GRAZIE! :^DDD Erano decenni che cercavo questo show in italiano; ora con i sottotitoli posso segnalarlo agli amici. Ma col doppiaggio d'epoca proprio non si riesce a trovare? Io me lo ricordo molto vividamente...
The best part of this is Danny was having as much fun as everyone else. What an entertainer.
I am so glad to find this. Have been looking for it for years. A wonderful entertainer. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕💕💕

Danny Kaye was a great "natural" in so many fields! This is impressive! He couldn´t read music. He knew it by heart..... and then....
nobody does it better than Danny Kaye may he rest in peace.
What artiste of today has that amount of all round talent? May music be the food of love, happiness and above all peace.
This was absolutely WONDERFUL! Danny Kaye was a beautiful part of my childhood and is dearly missed.

He also had pitch-perfect hearing which is rare...
How can you be a concert violinist as a hobby?

Hello Barton
You are a happy man. And a lucky one.
what a gift to the world. He was a blessing to all humankind
Carlo Maria Giulini, the great Italian conductor, was his friend and admired him so much, especially his real talent in conducting.
Seen this concert years ago. It is still brilliant now. A remarkable man.
👏👏
Thanks to Danny Kaye, I have happy childhood memories. His movies and musical talent and his unique acting make a big contribution to this.
A man that truly enjoyed his work . He has made me smile from my youth on . So talented and seems as if he were a wonderful person to know .
And how the incredible orchestra reacted to his every gesture, bis looks - equally sublime!
Danny Kaye was brilliant! 🥰

Absolutely adore Danny Kaye.
Perfecto
I wish Danny Kaye had conducted "The Waltz of the Flowers" when he chose to include the Nutcracker Suite for this performance.
今から見るとアウトな冗談満載だけれども、涙が出るほどおもしろい部分も思い出した。懐かしい。
