Thank you for the video. I have found it is much easier to do the Blue tooth pairing to my S5v2 than the previous app. Its a pity the Remote shooting facility has not been been made available for the S5v2. and S5v2x .
Nice rundown of these new features. I'm really looking forward to the unlimited recording times for my S9. That was the one drawback I really didn't like. I knew the camera could record for longer.
To be honest, I was surprised by this. When I was chatting to the LUMIX team previously, I had a feeling they were not going to allow that because of engineering reasons. Of course I am happy about it as this is what I also told them users would want
It’s the time to get my S9… new AF modes very important for me as I like to take photos of airplanes…. The new video duration update is an advantage just in case… also 1080/60fps PDFA is great for me … thanks Richard 🎉
Super cool improvements. This is why, although I shoot pretty much everything now on my Nikons (Z6ii and Z8), I always keep my eye on Panasonic… My GH4 and GH5 are sadly sitting idle at the moment. Can’t quite bring myself to sell them… I love Panasonic’s colour science too much! All the best from Hamburg my friend. Zak
Important - not mentioned in the video - In line with LUMIX’s continuous commitment to supporting creators, the latest firmware updates will be available to download free of charge from the LUMIX Global Customer Support website on 9th October 2024.
Why didn't they update for planes and train AF on the S5II? My daily filming is of airplanes and they still havent added this one. Im so frustrated right now. I really hoped they would add it on the next update.😢😢
After updating the S5II to version 3.1, high resolution 96 Mpix photos are blurry. On the previous firmware version 3.0, everything was beautifully sharp.
I notice issues with the autofocus on the S5iix after upgrading firmware to v2.1. The face tracking is very inconsistent . Human body / face is being recognized way too late. Also it looses tracking quite often. For example the subject is turning away from the camera. My S5ii (non x) is still on software v3.0 and the tracking is way better / earlier.
Good morning! After updating to the latest firmware, is there an option on S5 II to record video in 4k50 or 60 fps with a codec not h.265, but h.264? There was no such option on the previous firmware, at least I did not find it. Only in 4k30fps can you record in h.264, and in full HD of course. But in 4k50 or 60 I can’t find any mode with h.264
Unfortunately not, only the S9 get AF improvements with this round of firmware update. Hopefullly we will see some of these new changes coming to the G9II and S5II/x in the near future!
Hello. . . I have a problem with the Lumix S1 camera, taking pictures in daylight, especially when wearing black clothes, the color changes to pink or purple. Is this the cause of IR pollution entering the sensor?
I'm curious if you can test something for me. G9 II with firmware 2.2 The 'exposure comp reset' feature does not work for me in C1, C2 and C3 on the dial. This is a global setting, so if you set it to ON while in A mode (aperture priority), then it's also on in C1, C2, C3. I confirmed it shows as ON in C1, C2, C3 but when I change the exposure compensation while on C1, when I turn the camera off and on, the exposure comp is not reset to 0 as it should be. Is it the same for you? More details: If I change exposure comp while on C1 and then turn the camera off and then turn it on again, the exposure comp is still at the value I set just for turning the camera off (but it should be back to 0). If I change the exposure comp while on A on the dial (aperture priority) and then turn the camera off/on, the exposure comp is reset to 0 as I would expect (working properly). I also tried this on C2 and C3 (both of which I haven't changed/still at factory settings). With 'Exposure Comp. Reset' set to ON, it doesn't work in C2 or C3 either (I.E., when you turn the camera off/on, it doesn't reset the exposure comp value to 0). I'm curious if this works the same for you (same behavior as mentioned above). If you want to try it, go into the camera's menu and go to the gear icon, then go to page 2 of the Image Quality section, It should be the first setting at the top of the menu. Set 'Exposure Comp. Reset' to ON. Now that it's ON, go to Aperture priority on the mode dial. Change the exposure comp to -1 or whatever you want. Turn the camera off and back on. The exposure comp should be back to 0 (no compensation). Next go to C1 on the mode dial. Check the settings menu and confirm Exposure Comp. Reset is still set to ON. Now, change the exposure compensation to something other than 0, like -1 or +2, whatever you want. Turn the camera off and on again. Is your exposure comp back to 0 now or is it still at the value you set before turning the camera off?
@ OK. Thanks. I asked a few other people. Waiting for replies. :). I assume this feature behaves the same across all Linux bodies, so if the S5 II has this same feature the test could be done on that body too.
Thanks for the video. I’m always grateful for any new firmware updates but honestly there’s not much in this one that will be overly useful to me unless they add the option to control the camera from the app or at least some functions like the shutter.
No there isn’t auto subject detection mode for lumix camera, assuming you mean camera can detect if you re shooting people/animal/train/car/plane..etc and switch accordingly
I haven't heard anything. But it seems reasonable to expect that coming to GH7 in the future. Open gate is more useful with 4:3 micro four thirds than 3:2 full frame
After updated my Panasonic Lumix G9mk ii camera with the latest firmware and now my Sigma EF mount lenses with viltrox adapter won't focus anymore. I have 3 off Viltrox adapters and 2 off Sigma 18-35 art lens f1.8, 1 off Sigma 50mm f1.4 art lens and 1 off 85mm F1.8 f1.4 art lens. It is the firmware that is the problem as I tested the lenses with adapters on my Panasonic GH5 and all working perfect focusing
i had the same problem… i had to sell my viltrox for q metabones speedbooster and atualize the firmware of the booster, now is working but the noise of the lens is loud
@@TheRealRichardWong It’s just seems a bit of an oddity to not allow a camera aimed predominantly at the videography market this function. 😳. I’m not used to such restrictions from Panasonic Lumix. Well it is what it is! 🥺

Not sure, i guess it really depends on the room temperature. But I did some testing with 6k recording when the S9 was released and i got decent recording time.
Your reviews are excellent Richard but I am very disappointed with the S5 ii update and am now really contemplating switching to Nikon before I invest any more money on my S5 mk ii.😢
While I'm also a bit disappointed some of the things I hope to get didn't arrive with the latest S5II FW, but I'm pretty sure S5II will have more fw update coming in near future. It's a shame that Panasonic didn't fix the AFC on video above F8. AFC only works on Canon EF lenses up to F8. Above that is the focus from the S5 Mark I system, including the Lumix lenses. So if you have EF lenses do not buy Lumix and Sigma MC-21 for video.
9:24 Exactly this was a bad decision from S9 product managers not to include an accessory shoe to support Panasonic XLR adapters for a video-centric camera where content creators are eager to get the highest quality audio direct in the camera hassle-free. With that all S9 users could have been possible buyers of Panasonic XLR products. What a missed oportunity.
You could get one of the optional grip. I'm using the smallrig one and love it. It adds a small grip so the camera is still relatively compact, but grip is much better.
The Smallrig grip Richard mentioned is very nice on the S9. It looks like there wouldn't be much advantage to it, but once you put it on it feels more stable than it looks. Or you could get the cool little Smallrig cage for the S9, where the grip is quite a bit larger of course. I've used my S9 with my big S pro 70-200 2.8 for a few shoots and my grasp felt quite sturdy with the little Smallrig grip.
