  • How I unclogged my bathtub without using a snake or auger.
    I was unable to get a snake down my clogged bathtub drain, so I used this instead.

    very helpful. I had no idea that the air coming up would prevent the plunger from working. Helpful tip great work.

    Thank you man... i have been plunging for about 2 hours now going back and forth from the bathtub to the toilet. The overflow completely slipped my mind.

    If you put a second plunger over the overflow opening on the tub you can then plung the drain.

    I just clogged the air escape with plastic bags and a few plunges later TADA. About two years worth of gunk 😷

    Thanks a lot! You saved me a lot of money with your explanation. Except that I cover the pipe with a cloth instead of using that device you bought.

    Unfortunately many don’t have Access to the back of the tab in this case take the cover off the overflow and block it with a plastic bag or cloth anything to block it. And plunge away. :)

      That's an excellent point, Amy. In my case, I had to cut a hole in the drywall, fix the tub, then repair the drywall. Now if I can match the original paint.. : |

    Thanks very much for this video. It was exactly what I needed. For anyone that couldn't locate the tool iDo mentioned, a similar tool can be built by using two items from Lowe's. 1. Trap Adapter w/washer and plastic nut (11942 03212) and 2. Oatey plug #33400 (38753 33400). Those two parts totaled $9-ish.

    can't you re-snake the drain from the back side after you free up the 1.5 inch pipe from the back side? the snake should able to bend around the trap easier

    • @Marc9889
      @Marc9889 8 місяців тому

      Yes, or at least that's what I did. The stopper will pull all the way out, leaving straight down access to the p trap. I used the stopper and plunged it for a bit, then used the snake. Ultimately, the snake worked.

      True, however It depends on the obstruction.. exceptions are either too hard to penetrate and hook or too light to pull back out... I guess if you eliminate the grime before it allows more friction.. just a guess.. I'll let you know when I'm done with my tub

    What about if you have a fireplace on the opposite side of the tub and can't access the back of the tub to put the plug in 😂.

    In order to get this work, we have to cut the wall behind. How much should we pay to fix the wall?

    • @idothings6605
      @idothings6605  2 роки тому +4

      It would probably be easier to try plugging the drain from the front of the tub with a rag or use a snake before cutting the wall.

    Can you confirm or deny -- thus settling the heated debate between my BF and I -- is there such a thing as plunging too hard? I prefer my way, while he prefers to turn a plunger into a jackhammer, while more effective, currently, I am thankful this is not our home but an apartment because I fear the only way he may learn is by paying a plumbing bill my mother scared me with in place of a Grimm's Fairy tale through out my adolescence as someone with long hair and who escaped having as many plumbing problems in lieu of my faithful abiding to early religious like practices which required devout observance of the sacred sacrament which reads like Leviticus if Hebrews invented modern plumbing, but my partner had a different upbringing, as reflected best in our current plumbing problems.
    (I really want to be wrong).

      Plunging too hard could potentially cause damage...

    • @eddyvideostar

      Sara G: I entertained your paragraph of elucubration. Times change: Even the modern-day application of the Bible change. Applying all of Leviticus and the Old Testament without acknowledging Jesus, combined with reading the *whole Bible in context* will lead to one's puzzlement making *proper* application impossible.
      With toilet clogs, one *can* plunge too hard if nescience surrounds as to why it's clogging. The house's main sewer line could be the culprit. An apartment has its benefits: when the landlord and janitor are efficient in the building's upkeep. Sometimes, this is akin to playing a box in the company's football pool.

    What if my tub doesn’t have an over flow?

    • @idothings6605
      @idothings6605  6 місяців тому

      Then you could just use a plunger. However it is unlikely you don’t have an overflow if you’re in the United States.

    Yea it will work if one have access behind the tub. This method is horrible.

    • @idothings6605
      @idothings6605  2 роки тому

      Sorry, I should have explained it will only work if you have access.

    • @carolann811

      I don't think it's a case of throwing the baby out with the bath water. Knowing the mechanics of how drains work is helpful, even if someone doesn't have access behind the tub. So the method isn't horrible, just not appropriate for all clogged drains. But knowledge can sometimes be more useful than an access panel.

    All you needed was a plastic bag in the overflow. You wasted so much time. Good grief.
