    I used this method last night and it worked unbelievably!! The only problem was the wife had to run all over town looking for wire coat hanger. Finally went to the local dry cleaners and they gave her 1. Thank you for your tutorial on this.

    Oh, my gosh. I can't THANK YOU ENOUGH for this! My drain wouldn't take water no matter what. I dumped two full bottles of Drano over the course of a few days, and still nothing. After watching your video, I decided to remove the drain stopper in my bathtub. Mine look nearly exactly like yours! There was soap scum and clearly long strands of my hair. I grabbed the hanger and got to work. Holy bejesus. My strand was so long that I looked like a magician pulling endless handkerchiefs out of a hat. I almost wish you saw the picture I took, but this stuff was so disgusting. My bathtub was unclogged in less than 10 minutes. I don't have to call my landlord! Thank you SO MUCH! This is my go-to method now, haha!

    Wow! Awesome video and a God send. For six months my tub drain became slower and slower. Last night, my wife almost slipped in the soapy water, and asked if I could please check it for clogged hair. Found your video, the only metal coat hanger in the house, 5 minutes later, running free.

    Damn!!!! The plunger worked 😀😀😀😀. I bought my condo two years ago and the drain was horrible so I had it professionally unplugged. And though I use a hair catcher, and I'm the only one who lives here, the water has slowly been building up again. I just did the plunger and it works. Of course it was not severely clogged but I don't want to wait for it to get to that point. Thank you!!! 😀😀😀😀.

    The drain weasel gadgets are really handy but they are one use and can be expensive over time, plus the plastic ones are REALLY flexible and it’s easy to lose control of them bc they whip around too easily which is 🤢. This is great and appreciate the info, I’m a new subscriber now. Your helper is awesome too ❤
    I have a metal gadget on my tub now, it has like a basket and a stopper on it, it definitely stops most of the hair at the surface. It has to be cleaned daily, but it sure beats clearing out something that’s been sitting in a drain.

    I did this same thing last year at my timeshare. The tub backed up constantly the last several visits. Maintenance staff must have simply plunged and used Drano or such because it kept recurring. When I did this I pulled out a footlong snake of hair and the drain flowed freely.
    Pop-up drain stoppers are a particular problem as the mechanism down in the drain catches a few hairs that then catch a few more and gradually it grows into one of these masses.
    Keep an eye on your vent stacks as well. Birds, wasps, and other critters
    can build nests that restrict air flow. I once even had bullfrogs nesting inside mine. They got in from an inverted J-bend at ground level on an aux. stack behind the house. I discovered this when I actually saw a big fat one hop up into the access. This can cause drains to slow down more than you would ever imagine. I covered the pipe openings with wire screen, top and ground level, and the problem ended.

    Super-long haired, plumber-by-necessity here! Thank you for your video! You seem to be removing hair trapped straight down, whereas my bathtub drain appears shallow, but veers off to the right.... Hard to maneuver a coat hanger around the cross-bar piece..... Any advice?

    • @TheUltimateHandymanKyle
      @TheUltimateHandymanKyle  2 роки тому +2

      The hair is usually hung up on that cross bar and if you hook the hanger on the first inch of hair going in the drain and twist it makes the hair like a rope and it’s easier to pull out in one piece. Try making the bend on the end of the hanger smaller if it’s hard to get in the drain.

    My shower was backing up and I didn't do anything about it until the water level was getting up to my ankles by the end of it. I went in there one day with a plunger, turned the shower on and started working the drain (this gross black stuff came back up). It took 30 seconds to maybe a minute which isn't long but is a lot of plunging before the water suddenly started drained away.

    • @TheUltimateHandymanKyle
      @TheUltimateHandymanKyle  Рік тому

      Every tub drain I’ve seen had the cross bars on them. A shower drain usually has some type of grate on it. Yours could be missing on the shower or if it’s a tub the cross bars could have corroded out if it’s a super old house. If you can share a picture of the drain than I can tell you what’s going on with it. They also might have made them with no bars in older homes.

    Hi, for a kitchen drain pipe to be blocked with abit of oil n grease..how long does the build up take to block the drain? over time, like afew years or say 12 month? I moved in a house, after afew days, i noticed water in the tub was draining slowly..

    • @TheUltimateHandymanKyle
      @TheUltimateHandymanKyle  3 роки тому +5

      It’s different for every house. It all depends on how much grease was put down the drain and what pipes the house has. If it has ABS or PVC it would take longer to block than cast iron or galvanized piping witch can corrode on the inside causing it to build up faster. Best bet is to not put any grease or oil down the drain. If it does get clogged you can pick up a cheep drain snake and clean it out. For the tub it’s most likely clogged In the first 1’ of the drain. If the method in the video doesn’t work try a drain snake that will go deeper in the pipe. You might have to take off the over flow on the tub and put the snake down that pipe. Good luck with your project. Sorry I can’t give you an exact Timeframe

    I have a couple of grandchildren and a daughter with long hair so this is an ongoing problem. I am constantly reminding them to simply brush their hair out before they shower and bathe. Brushing and, or combining your hair prior to bathing reduces this problem considerably; if you can actually get them to do it.

    • @herronml86
      @herronml86 2 роки тому +1

      To be fair it's not ideal for many hair types to brush when hair isn't wet. I can only do it well when I have conditioner. However, it is possible to gather hair as it would go down drain pretty easily (catches on back/legs/thighs first) and it definitely helps to brush well before rinsing out conditioner as most of the loose hair will then be caught in the brush. I recommend a tub schroom or similar hair catcher to prevent clogs.

Now after every shower I just reach in and pull the hair off the metal cross bars with my fingers. It's not gross or smelly because the only hair is what just went down the drain. Haven't had a clog since (years).

      If you take the screws out of the overflow where the lever is you can pull out the stopper that’s located in the pipe. Then you can snake it out. If you have more questions let me know

    Hanger is stuck! What now?? It must be hooked on something, can't pull it out. :(

      How deep is it going into the drain? It should stay I’m the vertical portion of the drain pipe before it hits the bend. I never go to deep. It only needs to go in just past the cross bars. If you pull hard enough it should bend the hook you made back. Let me know how this goes.

      @@TheUltimateHandymanKyle It is still in there. I tried pulling it out with all my strength, I think I made the hook a little too curved. Also, I sent it in pretty far and I sent it towards the back of the tub because I thought that was the drain pipe, but my husband says he thinks the pipe goes in the OTHER direction (toward the part of the tub that you sit in rather than under the faucet). When I pull on the hanger, I hear a metal ding sound, so maybe it is caught on the mechanism that allows me to open and close the drain. My husband didnt want to pull it any harder because he is afraid he might break something.

    I live with three long haired girls. Really long hair. I don't know how this became my monthly task but it should be negotiable like killing spiders and taking out the trash.

      Pulling the nastay hair out of the drain is way worse than killing spiders and taking out the trash. You should make all girls watch this video. Give them a coat hanger and tell them to clean out their own hair.

      Are you taking about the water going straight down without spinning or the actual drain plumbing?
