Thanks for the video! My wife was on the phone with the plumber and I told her to hang up and give me an hour. I bought a similar snake for $10 and we got it unclogged! Probably saved us at least a couple hundred dollars.
I wanna tell you that I watched this video did what you said and it worked! Not only that but you aren't trying to be a badass or know it all like most of the other plumbing vids on yt. Thank you so much and God bless you.
Let me first just say THANK YOU! You just saved me hundreds of dollars on a plumber. I purchased the exact same drum auger as you did from my local hardware store (True Value) and followed your instructions to the letter. It worked just as you said it would. I even extracted the same giant wet rat-looking clump of hair that you did. Now my shower works great. Thank you again.
Fantastic video - narrator is easy to super thorough and easy to understand - gives multiple options and advice - saved me $250 a plumber charged me last time - THANK YOU!
All good instructions and demonstration. One thing I might add is the metal "snake" is often not attached to the wheel. I learned this by surprise, lucky I caught it before it snaked away down to the main system all downhill. I took a piece of blue duct tape and wrapped it at 3 feet before the end, so I have a clue when the cable is almost fully deployed. Clean and dry the cable after use and use some oil, WD40 or even a bit of motor oil on a rag and run the cable through the oily rag. Thank goodness for UA-cam!!
WD40... Why didn't I think of that. I bought one last night (Rigid brand), used it at my mom's. Brought it home, rinsed it off w the hose outside, and let it air dry (like directions said) on the sidewalk. Thought about it when I woke up today that humidity increases in the early morning. Went and coiled it back up and noticed it was already starting to rust. Guess I could soak the cable in vinegar or something to get rid of the rust... But, on the bright side the cable and reel are both only $~40 as needed. Rather than $160 on the low end for an independent plumber to make a simple house call. I wonder if WD40 might remove some of that rust since it's only in the cable crevices... As long as I don't have to buy a snake to snake out the snake that broke in the drain while I was snaking the drain. Y'know! 😄
I love you💖 why? Because I was feeling completely defeated when I thought I had solved my problem by cleaning out the trap pipe first. Apparently, it was a double clog and I sat down almost in tears with the fear of how much a plumber would cost. Then I remembered I had 25ft snake in my trunk that I never returned from a year ago since I didn't know how to use it but someone recommended I should have one as a home owner. Your video has brought joy to my life in a time of despair so I love you!
I went into Lowe's today and purchased one of these augers to clear my washer drain. After reading all the helpful comments, I was able to do this. Thanks for the great tutorial.
This was the best video on clearing out a shower drain. I like that you used gloves while doing this demo. Mine was a combo of frozen water and clogged bits since I live in a mobile home, the temp was the coldest that I can remember. No problem now. Thank you.
Best advice to avoid kinking the cable is to only have 4" of it out between the tool and drain opening. Push the cable by hand when you're in a straight section of pipe, no real need to spin it unless you're at a bend or some other resistance like a blockage. Also, put your drill on the slow speed setting and go slowly, don't crank it super fast like you were doing. If the cable jams you will bend/kink it permanently and ruin it. After cleaning it you should let it dry, then add a light coating of oil to prevent rust, before coiling it back in the container.
THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! OMG I had a horrible clog in a sink. Tried everything and even got a drum auger but I wasn't using it correctly till I watched you and now I believe its clear WOOHOO!!!!!
To avoid sewer gas and bad smell caused by acidic materials, pour baking soda solution at least 10 minutes before your drainage cleaning work. Also use face mask and turn on exhaust fans.
OMG, baking soda and vinegar twice, no luck. Bought a little snaker, like the one you have; followed all of your instructions and bam!! Free flowing water!!! Wonderful video and thank you so much!! Now, maybe you can show us how to install a simple ceiling light fixture??? Please? Thanks again!
Thank you so much for watching! I’m so glad I could be of help. I will definitely make a simple light fixture video! I just installed one on my guest bathroom so please stay tuned! 🙏🏽😊 if that video doesn’t help let me know the specifics you need 👍🏽😊
This is by far the best video explaining how the job is done. I was lost for an hour and your video helped me (and a panicked wife after shower). Thank you so much, you are an amazing person!!!
Thank you SO much for showing us how to do this! I have to be my own plumber today and I've been very anxious about trying this, so I hope it will work for me.as.simply as it did for you! God bless you!
Watched a bunch of videos on this but this is the most helpful so far, thank you for your great demonstration of the Auger to get that giant glob of stuff from the drain. Great video.
Many many thanks! I googled a drain snake and got one similar. Tried it but did not fix the issue. Thought i'd check for a you tube video hoping i would not find someone who spends 15 mins talking before they half showed the use. Your Video was spot on very direct and allowed me to confidently clear the blockage. Happy drain happy Mrs ..The washing machine is back in use!
I think that drill feature is essential. Saves tons of time. One thing I disagree with, though. Please don't use that on a high speed setting. 500rpm is the top end of it, and I'd say 200 is fine (that's low speed, high torque mode, and like half throttle on the trigger). And set the torque clutch on the drill to the lowest setting that will turn the snake. Start off slow, then ramp up to where you feel comfortable (up to 500 rpm, at least on my Ridgid model). I run it for about 3 seconds, extend the snake a few inches, then run for another 3 seconds, etc. (If your model has an auto feed like my ridgid, that means 3 seconds free spinning, then 2 advancing, then 3 free spinning, etc.) That gives the drill enough time to catch the clog or clean the drain, and doesn't just hammer it into that clog so it binds. The clutch mode is VERY important because it keeps you from getting that snake bound and then just wrapping it up or kinking it up in the drain.
I just followed your instructions and tried 4-5 times (snake kept hitting the bend), and lo and behold, water draining! Thank you for an easy to follow instructions!
Video was very helpful. The snake I have is hand feed only, but, the tip on pulling it back and turning the handle worked great. Leave only approximately 4 inches of snake line from the top. It holds it in place better while it works itself further down the drain. Once that is down I extended more line until there was almost none left. Never saw what was clogging it though. Used this method in my washer drain. Works so far.
Amazing video! This was a project I put off for months because of fear and now I completed it in under an hour, LOL! The wife and daughter are happy to use the shower again, thanks man
Thanks so much for this video. A bathroom sink wouldn’t come unplugged after plunging and using liquid plumber. I checked the P trap and realized it must be farther down. I was nervous to try an auger until I watched your video. I got nervous using it at first when I hit something but tightened it and it kept going. So after weeks of dealing with a clogged sink the auger worked! I didn’t get your same auger, mine is just a hand crank. But I mainly wanted to thank you for the encouragement and easy to follow video that gave me the courage to give this a try with success!
Thank you for this video. I watched several others that just did not get to the point or were horrible quality. It's clear that you know what you're doing and can explain it in an easy to understand format with pro quality video. Great job!
Thank you! Very informative, easy to follow, and quick to the point. My drain has more going on than a snake can fix, but now I know how to do it right next time
Finally was able to clear a huge clog in the tub thats been there since we moved in. I have the hand auger but it doesnt do much. So I decided to get the one with a drill attachment. Let me tell you, it made a huge difference and now my tub drains great! Thanks for this video 😊
Thank you for showing how to use it, I bought it today at home depot because my sink is clogged and I have poured liquids into it but they haven't worked. and watch your video to learn how to use it. thank you 👍

@@josephfulcher9410 sorry. My little auger didn’t work. I had to call a plumber. He had a much higher quality auger and it “kind of” worked. I still get back up about once a month, but letting drano sit overnight helps. You too may have to call someone. Sorry. But sometimes ya just gotta bite the bullet and pay the piper. I wish i could help you more. Good luck!!
Excellent Video! Thank you for this. We have used a cheap hand auger in the past (4'-5' max length?). Yes, hair is the shower drain problem. I'm also guessing this will work with toilets too! And thanks for the reminder of cleaning before storing. We will be upgrading to your model today. Plumbers aren't cheap.
Thanks for this video, I’m gonna buy this tool this Tuesday and see if it works, I will keep you posted, I’ve tried everything else so far and my sink is filled with water cause it’s so clogged. Fingers crossed :)
thank you for sharing this! well done and very clear and excellent demonstration. I had done the wire hanger and draino- but i wasn't sure about the drain auger.
Tip: If you have someone in your household with long hair, I would do this in the shower about every 6 months. I did this again yesterday and pulled out a huge clump of hair. I usually do it in the winter and in the summer, or do it when your shower doesn't seem to be draining well.
Lmfao ...didn't watch the video, was just scrolling when I saw the snake, a snake I've never even seen yet... Lol... That accepts your power impact tool to turn the drum. I'm sure it works great I'm sure the instruction in the video is solid. This comment is about labeling. And boy, is it funny to see a how to video for beginners with the thumbnail image that might be the most intimidating way to use a snake, from a beginner's perspective. Note: don't expect a beginner to have anything except the most basic and rudimentary tools... And then don't be surprised when they don't even have that. I needed that chuckle.
If you are unclogging your kitchen sink with a coat hanger beware and put a bucket under the sink. Our sink was completely clogged with some water in it. The coat hanger pierced the pipe and water went everywhere. The pipes were very old and would have broken anyway but just as a precaution, put a bucket under it, It would of saved us some panic and a couple hours of cleaning up!
I've only watched two videos and this was perfect. I would not have done this correctly otherwise. The takeaway from the other video is to clean afterwards with baking soda and even use lime juice to help with the smell. I'm wondering if i should get a haircut first before attempting this so i don't start the problem all over again 😂 thank you!!!!
I got a 25 foot drain auger with drill attachment from Harbor Freight for $15. It paid itself off in less than a week when I cleared out the kitchen sink and then the bathtub.
Pulling that mass of hair is so satisfying to watch. Can I use this on my toilet? We have to flush 3 times sometimes with bucket water and not sure why.
Haha yes so satisfying yet scary to see what’s going to come out lol. Yes you can use this for toilets as well, but I highly suggest to try using a plunger first. 🙏🏽😊
I bought an auger once but it didn’t work so well and instead scratched the heck out of my things when I tried using it. But I didn’t have a handle thing. That’s a legit one
Our shower drain is not clogged but there is an awful sewer smell comes out during shower. I have tried baking soda / vinegar, drano, bleach - all these several times but the smell is still there. I will use the auger tomorrow but we don't have a drill to turn it. Will the snake go up and down the bend without the drill? Thank you sharing this video.
this helped me out. I realized I was trying to shove the snake instead of using it to remove the clog. It took me a while and the entire 25 foot snake. Nasty stuff coming out.
Thank you! We need to unclog the pipe on the dryer that goes out to the vent. It has been clogged for months to the point that I have to hang towels outside to dry. Some super smart person thought it was a good idea to vent it up into the attic or out of the roof. We aren’t sure which…😂. We don’t know what caused the blockage since there’s a lint screen on the dryer which we empty after every load or two. It just quit catching lint, strangely enough. 🤷🏼♀️ 🤷🏻♂️ 🙈🙉🙊We have an auger for the occasion-just like yours and we don’t have a drill …😅 We aren’t very handy around the house …🙊
Thanks for the video! My wife was on the phone with the plumber and I told her to hang up and give me an hour. I bought a similar snake for $10 and we got it unclogged! Probably saved us at least a couple hundred dollars.

Thank you 🙏🏽 so much!
Perfect instructions. Thank you
Thanks dude. Going to give it a shot. Better this than $400 to plumber if I can help it
Yes this will help greatly! Make sure you experiment with different lengths of snakes
Great video! I'm going to try this in the morning.
Very helpful. Saved myself 400$
Great Video ❤🙌🏾🙏🏾 Off to Lowes I go. THANK YOU
You got this! 👍🏽😊😎
your instructions were fantastic thank you
Thank you so much! 🙏🏽😊
Great video !!!!! Really helped
@@FixThisHouse thank you
Great vidio, well explained, thank you..
Very helpful. Well demonstrated. Thank you.
I bought an auger once but it didn’t work so well and instead scratched the heck out of my things when I tried using it. But I didn’t have a handle thing. That’s a legit one
that looks so satisfying lol
It actually was 😅 lol
Excellent video, subbed
Our shower drain is not clogged but there is an awful sewer smell comes out during shower. I have tried baking soda / vinegar, drano, bleach - all these several times but the smell is still there. I will use the auger tomorrow but we don't have a drill to turn it. Will the snake go up and down the bend without the drill? Thank you sharing this video.
Most likely a bad connection issue. Unfortunately odds are you're gonna have to call an actual plumber.
this helped me out. I realized I was trying to shove the snake instead of using it to remove the clog. It took me a while and the entire 25 foot snake. Nasty stuff coming out.
Good job brother. Thanks for sharing
Thank you 🙏🏽 so much for watching!
