Isn't it interesting how our frame of reference changes as we take a second (or third or fourth) look at the series.

The character of Angelique was eternally captivating but would not have been were it not for the marvelous Lara Parker who brought her to life

Angelique was SOOOOOO evil. Destroying everyone's lives and feeling totally ok doing it.
Evil counts on us not believing people could possibly do such things ...

My favorite costumes are in the 1840 storyline. They were "built" - that is the costumers' term for the specific actors and their characters. Mary McKinley was the costumer. Before that, they were rentals - bur were still wonderful. If you are interested in more info, please search for Mary McKinley Interview. It is also on my channel under the Expert Interviews playlist.

A feast for the eyes and a tantalizing blend of star-crossed love and witchcraft. Angelique's spells have an authenticity to them modern day shows like "Charmed" never had. Did Dan Curtis have a consultant or occult practioner to advise him on the tarot and spellcasting in the eps?

That is a great question. Has anyone come across information that could answer this question?

I know that Lara Parker (Angelique) said at the DS festival in 98' the lines were written by the writers on the show. Lara Parker claims not to practice witchcraft nor that of the Occult, either. But that is a very good question that was asked by many fans over the years since her character as Angelique is so believable, and Lara really played her superb! 🙂 I met her at the DS festival and she seemed very sweet, unlike her witch character. Lara has written several good DS books over the years. Dan Curtis, sadly, passed away years ago and I'm not sure if he ever went indepth about the storylines and inspiration. I'd be interested in knowing if Dan got any guidance from Occultism, witchcraft practioners, etc. Maybe there's a documentary somewhere by MPI home video, or something by Jim Pearson who co-wrote many DS books with Kathryn Leigh Scott (Josette duPres, Maggie Evans, Rachel Drummond, etc.). Hope this helps. 🙂

There was a lot of interest in the occult in those days. Pretty much any bookstore would have information about it. I remember as a child reading about it and kind of believing it lol.

Poor Barnabas. Angelica made his life a living hell and vampire existence . When did she not connive against Barnabas. She would help Barnabas only if she could get a promise or agreement from him on her terms only. Angelica was very cruel witch and Barnabas always got punished in the end by her.

      Angelique not Angelica

A witch have no conscience or any remorse . Angelique destroys members of the Collins family and blames Barnabas for not reciprocating any feelings of love toward her and allows her own resentment against Josette go too far.

I love the series, but I have difficulty accepting the idea that Barnabas was only twenty-five years old.

I wish YT had all episodes and the full series. It cost close to $275 for the whole set on Amazon

Last I checked the price was over $500.00. $275 is cheap by comparison.

remember watching these episodes as a kid, saw the beginning part of episode 377 where Jerimia was talking with Niaomi, and think i remember Niaomi from a old 1940's movie called son of monty cristo she played the grand douchess, had one question if anyone knows is Niaomi real name Joan Bennett, sure looks like her when she was a bit older, was such a fan of that old movie i recognized her immediatly, was pleasently surprized to see her again, thanks for bringing back fond memories posting these.

Yes, she is Joan Bennett. I think it was kind of a coup for DS to get her ...
