That is exactly what it is. I grew up watching my big mama kill hogs and how they removed the ish from the intestines. I never ate them as a child and still don't eat them.
Yeah you really can't eat just anyone's chitterlings. Everyone doesn't know how to clean them thoroughly. I eat my mom's and mines only. I used to eat my Granddaddy's before he passed away.
Me either and I come from a, made from scratch peas 🫛 snapping family, lol after you thoroughly clean them the smell will definitely decrease significantly but they still have a distinctive smell and unless you have a big home, your home will still carry that smell for a little while after cleaning them 🤷🏾♀️ And trust me when I say my ppls clean them to the point that they have to buy a significant amount of chitterrlings just to get a good serving...

Every-time I see one of 'those' comments, I tell them exactly that! The funniest part is the casing sausage is wrapped in, is the membrane that we discard when cleaning Chitterlings. Jokes on them😂
I used to be so bougie and turn my nose up at them. Then my husband encouraged me to try his best friends moms….. I look forward to the every Thanksgiving now.
People will eat sausage, chicken WINGS,ground beef and an Ox’s tail but love to talk down on chitterlings. If you think about it, everything we eat is nasty but we make it taste good. Get over it and move on ,no need for the negative comments .
I prefer my chitterlings cut up into bite size pieces and lots of red pepper flakes and garlic onion and oil and vinegar in it! Yummy 😋 I was obsessed with chitterlings when I was pregnant with my older son 😊
That's right! My discard pile is almost as much as my cleaned chitlins. You absolutely cannot be lazy about cleaning chitlins. Take that membrane off. That's what the poop laid on.
