My neighbour and i didn't know each other's names for ages but it got past the point of asking each other, fortunately I heard someone else call him Paul and later he collected a parcel meant for me when I was out so he found out my name that way.
I love this scene. Andy's creative strategies to wriggle himself out of this ackward situation, and the make up artist being over sensitive about innocent mistakes of the actors, makes for brilliant comedy. Haha.

I have watched this episode several times and have found that it's literally impossible to not try to mimic Maggie's voice at the end when she goes "THAHTS CLEVAR"
this is not ALL to be blam on celeberity if celebirty is to blam for having "ego" forgeting name, the chap who wish them to do so is equaly guilty on the same ground.. the best way is just donot bloddy ask for autograph. :-) IT WAS FUNNY THOUGH!
Ricky Gervais comedy is a bit like huge exploding pimple videos, you never know exactly why you put yourself through the torment of trying to empathize with those painful situations but you do it anyway. I suppose in the end you can think to yourself that you're glad it wasn't you.
This is one of those instances in life where just being honest can you get you out of an even more awkward situation later on. It just goes to show how much, as humans, we hate conflict. If he had just said 'i don't know your name, either', granted, it would have been slightly awkward, but nowhere near as much as it became.

He does it so the shows feel more real. In real life you aren't surrounded by beautiful charming people which is part of the reason why most tv and film feels so fake and lame
