After years of iterative changes in consumer tech, I've grown tired of most tech reviews. However, I never get tired of a Mr. Mobile review! The way you narrate never fails to delight!
pro tip for the LTE pixel watches: if you're on google fi, google doesn't charge you an additional fee for having your pixel watch as an additional line (most carriers charge an extra $5-10 a month for adding a watch line). been doing this since the pixel watch 1, so consider switching to google fi if you can! loving my 45mm pixel watch 3 personally!
The real kicker is that Google, like most every smartwatch these days, wants to use a proprietary band interface rather than just the previous industry standard. It wouldn't be a problem if you could shove any band you wanted on there.
On the topic of watch bands, for me, the price is the issue. I've been rocking my PW2 for a year now, and while I did buy five cheap third-party bands to mix up the styling, ultimately, I've ended up just wearing the original active band that came with the watch for the majority of my year of use, which isn't even a colour I like (I opted for a gold pixel watch, but the gray/green band that comes with it is just so... dull). Why? The cheap bands didn't attach properly - some of them would rattle in the quick-release housing whenever the watch vibrated, others would refuse to lock in to the quick-release housing, and they irritated my skin and kept sliding around on my wrist. The active band that came with the watch though, it doesn't irritate my skin, it doesn't slip around, and it locks in place firmly in the quick release mechanism. A good experience (aesthetics aside) which would tempt me to buy an official band that's more to my liking... only they *start* at £49 and go all the way up to £209! For *one* watch band! 🥴 Oh but don't worry, the most expensive option is only £8.71 a month over 24 months with financing? Is this the reality we live in now, two year finance plans on a single watch strap???? Google's watch band offerings rather limited in styles and colourways, but there are a few which I wouldn't mind having, and I like the idea of having a variety of bands for different occasions, since they're so easy to swap. But if I wanted to buy the four bands that most appeal to me, that would set me back a rather eye-watering £456. For the Americans here, that's five bucks away from being six hundred dollars at time of writing. I'm sorry, but hard pass.
Kudos to Google's trade in prices this year. $699 for my 8 Pro plus a $200 Store Credit and $220 credit for my Pixel Watch 2. I got a 9 Pro and a Watch 3 LTE all for around $350 after all trade in's and credits.
@@CoachD77 I saw that. Considering how little actually changed between my 1st Gen vs the 3rd I'll keep mine and save a few hundred dollars for another day.
I did that trick where you buy the official leather strap then take the strap off the lugs so I can put any other "traditional" strap on (20mm lug width on the 41mm Pixel Watch 2 version)

As someone who loves his Pixel Watch 2, I'm really glad they're keeping the small option.
I'm on a Watch 2 that came with a Pixel 8 offer. I like the rubber watch strap as I do exercise with it - although I may look for a perforated version of the rubber one for a bit more airflow. I admit, I don't use most of the features you mention - it is very much fitness oriented, as well as the sleep tracking. I do wish that one day we may get watches that last for a week - like the cheap fitness bands I was wearing before this. I also hope they can let Facer back in at some point.
Honestly, the rubber wrist straps are so ugly. They cheapen the look of all smart watches. I think they serve specific situations but for normal day to day, no thanks. I still use my Fossil Gen 6 because it just looks good and fits any 22mm band.
Many thanks. And (just IMO) no case on a smartwatch, ever. These things, much more than phones, are built to be seen. Covering them with a case is sacrilege.
I’d say my verdict from attending the event holds: the Pixel Watch 3 is the “mature” model you can finally recommend to most people. And that’s not a backhanded compliment - Google has come a long way.
Now if only we could get back to wireless charging and enable it from the backs of Pixel phones... And make them compatible with Apple watch chargers so I can buy a Nomad 3-in-1. 😒😒😒
Great review as always, and just bought my Pixel Watch 3 LTE through my carrier (free upgrade from Pixel Watch 1 LTE). I just now bought a protective cover for it because my wrist likes doorknobs for some reason. I bought one for my Watch 1 as well. 🍻
Mr. Mobile! Your reviews are always on point, your wordsmithing is top notch, I always look forward to your opinions for the gadgets I'm contemplating, and even for some I'm not...yet. At this point I can't wait to grab the 45mm version, as I too have been waiting (not so) patiently for this addition having owned the last two iterations. But...my question is...where did you get that snazzy jacket you were wearing during your Surfshark pitch???
I have a Galaxy watch 5 and a Galaxy Fit 3. I don't like wear OS at all. Many times it's sluggish, battery holds at most 2 days etc. On the other hand, the Fit 3 with Tizen is faster, battery lasts longer and has everything you need for a way cheaper price. I know these are 2 (slightly) different kind of products, but imo Tizen is way better than wear OS
Nice review (as always). I think the biggest problem with the Pixel Watch 3 is that it's just not that much of a truly discernible upgrade from the Watch 1. Better screen and battery life, sure, but I used it for a week before trying the Watch 1 again and it didn't feel inferior. Especially for the difference in price.
Summary: The Pixel Watch 3 has a larger display and a more refined design. It offers improved health and fitness features through the Fitbit app. Additionally, there are new smartwatch features like the recorder app. The Pixel Watch 3 offers a range of features, including sleep tracking, voice calling, and integration with Google services. Most of these watches seem to miss the most important feature; Easily display the time in day or night. Pebble got this right, and these days Garmin and Xiaomi, get it right these days with TFT displays. The brighter environment, the more visible the display is. Why do watch manufacturers try and out-shine the Sun? It's an exercise in futility. Pebble, Garmin, and Xiaomi have watches that last for days with always on displays because the display doesn't fight the sun to keep visible using large amounts of power to display. I am using a Garmin right now, and I don't have to tap the screen, or retreat into a shadow to see the time, or a message, it is there and quite visible. Sure, the colours are not supersaturated like OLED displays, but reduced charging, and better visibility is much more of a benefit.
I have an AWU and I run in Florida and deployed to Iraq under the sun, I never had that issue you just described. I can see the time and messages before I even raise to wake.
For me the galaxy watch 7 was the better deal. Bigger screen, slightly smaller watch, a lot thinner and a lot cheaper. Also makes use of universal watchbands. Software is perhaps a bit more cartoonish, but it works very well. Even when not using a Samsung phone.
I’m kinda in the opposite camp here. I don’t much care if the watch looks like a traditional watch. I actually like the square design of the Apple Watch for example.
Samsung watches makes me think of cheap digital round watches. I'm not a fan of square watch like the Apple one. I like the Google watch because it's a pebble design, the screen is part of the body, which bring it's inconvinient (repairability) but I'm someone who take care of my stuff.
Galaxy Watch 6 Classic club and I got it new for only $240 on Ebay. Decided to buy it over waiting for this and I have no regrets. Battery is fantastic. Surprisingly, though, my favorite feature is the strap that's leather on top and rubber on bottom. Still have Google Assistant and that's nice. But I am open to the idea of a Pixel watch someday just for the cleaner interface and I'm glad the Pixel Watch is getting there quality-wise.
Ew, I had the Watch 6 Classic, didn’t like it. Battery was fine but very laggy and the sensors are dreadful, especially when I was use to an AWU. Ended up trading it in for the 7 Ultra
@@superiortoall22 If you're getting the ultras that's great! I thought mine was laggy too for the first couple of days and it's been fine ever since. I just don't care enough about watches to spend $600+ on one and all I need is something that looks nice, works well, and has great smart features for productivity purposes.
watches should come default with a metal or leather band options and if they wanna give us a rubber/plastic option it should be included in the box as a second option. This being said i'm still rocking my GW4 and prob won't update any time soon cause I don't need much else.
2018 Galaxy Watch is, in my opinion, still the best watch hardware wise. 49 (?) mm wide, rotating bezel, insane battery life, a normal strap and enough memory. Yes it's Tizen operated. As long as a similar watch isn't on the market, I'm not switching.
Seeing what happened to smartwatches makes me glad that (for now at least) smartphones are still allowed to skin and tinker with their versions of Android on their own hardware. There was a time where Android enthusiasts kept calling for the death of skins and for everything to run stock Android, but there really is strength in diversity. While not a direct comparison, I can't help but feel WearOS's previous outing was a dark mirror to what could've happened to smartphones too.
I would love to see more of your vehicle videos, like your bike and car videos! Specifically, while it's a long shot I would love to see you cover that one Pebble Flow in your CES 2024 video! Perhaps how it would go in a camp/getaway with your other techtuber friends!
I think the default band is at least partially a reach out to the fitbit crowd which google is at least trying to play to and make sure they don't feel left out. I see the pixel watch displayed next to fitbits in stores as the ultimate fitbit of sorts. Which is fine but I love a fabric band and wish they could offer choice in the box. Or at least let you pick a particular band at point of purchase that wont puff up the price.
I'd have loved to be able to choose the watch band that I get in the box or with the order. I've ended up liking the woven bands a lot... I have three colors now. I'd also like to be able to have the black lugs with whatever leather color bands they offer. Would really love a black and brown combination! Maybe some day
As a regular Apple Watch user, I am sad to see the “Wild West” of android watches sunset. But I guess Apple’s wearable strategy has been more successful, so it makes sense 😕 Regarding the bands: I may be in the minority here, but I actually do enjoy using the silicone standard band that came with my first Apple Watch Series 2 all those years ago (I am on a Series 9 now). I don’t enjoy having a metal band, except for special occasions. And cloth bands absorb too much of my sweat. Leather bands are nice, but they also do not handle my daily wear and tear as well as the silicone does. That said, wear what you prefer when and where you prefer; they give us customizability for a reason 🙂
I think most people do use them with a health focus. The bands are meh agreed, but for health tracking, running, surfing, cycling etc the plastic is the best option. The battery life is disgusting for me on the 3, so bad. Not even a day.
Very nice.. awaiting the day I can get back to an android smartwatch. I switched to a Coros Pace 3 about 6 monhts ago.. I use it daily for running and it lasts at least 3 weeks of daily runs/gps. It's pretty amazing.. definitely a little lackluster compared to an Apple watch or an Android watch but it does what I need it to do very well.
I'm fortunate to have tried both Samsung's Watch7 (44mm) and Google's Pixel Watch 3 (45mm). There are certain aspects that I like on the Google side over Samsung's but there are more things I like on the Samsung side over Google. For starters, the hardware design. I don't like that curved glass top at all. And I think due to this, there is no tempered glass protector out there (except for maybe that one other that's godly expensive? Didn't check). I also don't like how the bands attach to the watch itself -- proprietary. Granted it makes for an interesting and smooth design. But if I can't use my own band with a watch and have to shell out extra $$$ for an adapter, then I cannot find myself using Google's watch for long. I ended up sticking to Samsung's Watch7 as my primary watch. Both are good timepieces. But I prefer Samsung's exterior design than Google's.
I have a Fitbit Sense 2 (a "smartwatch" also sold by Google) and can go 5-6 days on 1 charge. This downgrade in battery from the Sense 2 to the PW is the main thing stopping me from buying it, but nevertheless I still enjoy watching your videos. I don't think Google will ever increase the battery life of the PW to match the Fitbit, simply because, as you mentioned, Apple Watch users are fine with daily charging and so Google will always aim for the 24 hour mark.
Great review as always. I’m still sticking to my Apple Watch Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max. But if the ecosystem wasn’t so good, I’d consider this and the Fold for sure.
Thank you for the review Michael - spot on as usual! I got the Pixel Watch 3 (Hazel) last Sunday, and after the first evening of wearing it, I wanted to sell it off (due to the 'large' culture shock of moving from an Apple Watch Ultra) and immediately put it on an online sale app, thinking that I will go back to a Watch Ultra 2 in black. Next day morning, I went for a walk and that changed the whole dimension - the simplicity of the interface, the glanceability and more importantly the real-time metrics; be it the steps taken, heart rate etc., it was a whole new experience. Got back home, deleted the sale advt., and now close to one week, I am not missing my Apple Watch. I do prefer the chunky feel of the Watch Ultra, but the 45mm Pixel is a reasonable good size (I hope Google provide an Ultra iteration next year).
I like that last point of yours--this is as good as it's going to get. A lot of our choices have been quashed, and the best we can hope for is to be treated well by these companies. They make software and hardware choices seemingly at random, without consideration for common sense, it seems. And third-party software that fixes these problems seems to have become public enemy number one--a priority for these companies to destroy, when they should be concerning themselves with a good customer experience, first and foremost. It's not just tech. Stagflation, shrinkflation, whatever you want to call it, we've hit a period in time where our choices as consumers is being quietly squeezed out of the margins, and it seems most buyers are content just to roll onto their backs and accept it. Disappointing overall, and it's certain to get worse before it gets any better.
I tried Samsung smartwatches and now I got the google pixel 3 45mm. Google watch pixel 3 45mm is so much more elegant and classy. I got a lot of notifications so laaate on Samsung smartwatches that now It is solved with Google watch pixel 3. The interaction of Google Watch pixel 3 with WearOS is so much smoother and better.
The watchband is the only reason why I went with the OnePlus 2 watch instead of Pixel Watch 3. If they had gone with the standard lugs like OnePlus, your choices are literally in the MILLIONS. I immediately went to my local watch store (of which there are 3, even in my tiny town, a Google store doesn't even exist in the country) and walked out with a super nice tan canvas band for just €17. A nice leather one was 50, crocodile skin would have cost twice the price of the watch and although very nice looking on its own, wouldn't have fit either the watch or my wallet. :D Do they sell just the lugs, without a non-removable band? That would probably be the best of both worlds. Now... when is OnePlus getting WearOS 5?
This video echoes my sentiments exactly. I miss my Armani Connected smartwatch. I switched to the Apple ecosystem and the Apple Watch is mundane and boring. I’d gladly settle for a Pixel Watch but would prefer they still supported Fossil and their various subrands. The best watch out now might me the Tag Heuer Connected e4, but at 2 years old and on ancient hardware, is not long for this world. And I doubt there will be an e5. As noted, it’s just Google and Samsung now, with a few bit players. Just like phones I guess.
I personally enjoy the rubber straps for my lifestyle which involves a lot of biking, walking and activities as I'm almost never sitting I enjoy my ticwatch 5 pro and it has finally received wear os 4 combined with the 4-5 day battery it's a gem Only problem I ditched my pixel 8 for an iPhone 16 pro as I was tired of Google tensor and the g4 didn't give me much hope I'm debating on getting an apple watch ultra 1 around black Friday or trying a Garmin (somewhere between 600-700 cad )
The Pixel Watch 3 was my gateway into getting out of the Pixel ecosystem, had the 2 for 6 months and couldn't make friends with it. I agree the earlier Wear strategy was nicer. I had a few earlier Fossil watches that I liked because they don't look like smart watches. The Pixel Watch looks too much like a gadget on my wrist. I've ended up going back to my Withings Scanwatch Horizon as a result. On the plus side I'll no longer feel compelled to stick with Pixel phones which will save me a few hundred. My next phone will probably be whatever Nothing phone is out at the end of my contract. Also I don't mind the silicon bands but that bone colour that comes with the stainless steel gen 3, ugh. Also. That band changing mechanism. Again, ugh.
If you have the chance to mention it someday, there's a huge deal breaker for most people about this watch: they're not repairable. Like, we're not talking about Apple Watch levels of repairable (difficult, but possible), we're talking about Google not keeping spare parts to repair the watches they receive through warranty or users who may have cracked the screens, and you as a user only having the option to use the preferred care package to get a replacement device if it breaks (incurring in additional costs) really sucks :( Google usually just offers to sell you a discounted "puck" but it's still much more expensive than it should be. Also, the Pixel Watch 3 only has three years of software support. On cheap phones, I used to understand this decision, but the watch I am using right now got released three years ago and I still can count on it getting security updates and software releases for many years to come, I don't get why Google is settling in with only three years for their *best* watches yet (yes, the first gen Pixel watch will apparently lose support next year). It may be a limitation from qualcomm as they don't offer support for their SoCs for long though.
I don’t know why people reference Apple Watch battery life. I have an ultra but when I had a regular one, I had no problem dropping it on a fast charger during showers. You should take your watch off every single day and clean it. Give your wrist a break, and remove the little shit off it that you can’t see. That doesn’t include the dead skin and nasty germs from sweating. Even if battery life was 7 days or something crazy like a garmin, if you are wearing it 24/7 you’re just creating a colony of bacteria on your hand, and your probably transferring it to your mouth, significant other, and children on top of it.
I have the PW3 45 mm and it's not bad as I've been getting 4 days of battery life out of it so far as I personally don't use the health and fitness features. I do like the simplicity of the watch and its clean looks. The watch bands are cheap AF, but that's what Amazon is for.
Based on performance reviews of the lates Apple Watch models, the silicon band improves heart rate tracking accuracy as compared to a metal-based strap, so it's unsurprising Google has gone the same route.
Google made a deal with Masimo (the company that sued Apple for their SpO2 technology) to build a new reference platform for other manufacturers so it won't be only Samsung and Google anymore hopefully.
I'll be honest, I love the look of the 45mm Pixel watch. But there are a couple things I personally don't like. One is the bezels are pretty big. And although I love the look of the watch it's not practically for me. It scratches up pretty quickly. Since it has no protection around it you will bang it up. I really ment to love it but it's a no go for me 😁
Can't help wondering if the amount of people Google has put off buying this watch because of no physical protective bezel outweighs those that choose to actually buy it specifically because it has no physical protective bezel? Thanks for the video.

@@superiortoall22 Well Mr. Superior to All, I am glad you have no issues, but for me, the OLED was not bright enough, and it used too much power.
@@DavidGreen_au might want to get your eyes checked then if everyone else has no issues with it but you.
11:50 sounds like a callback to the classic Mr Mobile intro of yesteryear.
For me the galaxy watch 7 was the better deal. Bigger screen, slightly smaller watch, a lot thinner and a lot cheaper. Also makes use of universal watchbands. Software is perhaps a bit more cartoonish, but it works very well. Even when not using a Samsung phone.
I still like the design of the galaxy watches better. They look like actual watches, especially in the silver colour.
Always love your use of the English language, bud. Great review!
watches should come default with a metal or leather band options and if they wanna give us a rubber/plastic option it should be included in the box as a second option.
I would have preferred "The power to program your pushers" but I appreciate the alliteration anyway. Great review. Thanks!
Great video as always. I want one of those but terrified of breaking it since i tend to be clumsy and hit my watches on things a lot.
I see the policy that Facer is facing is also a problem with my favorite watch maker, Pujie. Hope they will fix this...
I would love to see more of your vehicle videos, like your bike and car videos! Specifically, while it's a long shot I would love to see you cover that one Pebble Flow in your CES 2024 video! Perhaps how it would go in a camp/getaway with your other techtuber friends!
Like the shout out to Ron, Jason and co.
I wonder if we'll ever get to see a Fit3 review from you. Yet another great video! Keep up the good work.
But I guess Apple’s wearable strategy has been more successful, so it makes sense 😕
Regarding the bands: I may be in the minority here, but I actually do enjoy using the silicone standard band that came with my first Apple Watch Series 2 all those years ago (I am on a Series 9 now).
Now after this review I'm leaning towards Team Pixel watch, over the Apple watch... It looks good!
I haven't commented in a while. But it's nice coming back to yet another great review of yours, Michael! Cheers - //Rick
Always appreciate your reviews and your classy viewpoint for design.
Really looking forward to a new "Whats in my Tech Bag" vid soon!
I am so in love with ur videos michael😭awesome awesome work
I tried Samsung smartwatches and now I got the google pixel 3 45mm.
Do they sell just the lugs, without a non-removable band?
I'm buying this watch. If Mr. M. Gives it a go and a thumbs up that's all I need.
Great review Mister, I always enjoy technical insights on devices you present
So different and better than other reviews.
Production value of Micheal's videos........Still Top Notch ❤❤❤
6:58 what does that readiness score actually measure? It said you got 5hr and 44m sleep that night so did you agree with the readiness score of 98?
I personally enjoy the rubber straps for my lifestyle which involves a lot of biking, walking and activities as I'm almost never sitting
I enjoy my ticwatch 5 pro and it has finally received wear os 4 combined with the 4-5 day battery it's a gem
Only problem I ditched my pixel 8 for an iPhone 16 pro as I was tired of Google tensor and the g4 didn't give me much hope
I'm debating on getting an apple watch ultra 1 around black Friday or trying a Garmin (somewhere between 600-700 cad )
Again, ugh.
I love the band that comes with the pixel watch !
Still on my pixel watch 1 with ivory band and silver case. Love the look of it and waiting for a much slimmer bezel.
I know MM has always been more pro-Android, but I don't recall so much hate in the past.
I wear those on my fitbit. Don't bother me at all, easy to attach and comfortable.
Thank you, I also don't care about the fitness stuff and wanted to know more about it's other features. I am seriously considering this watch now.
This guys deserve to be in 10 million followers. What’s keeping him back ?
Kudos to you MrMobile - another absolute masterclass in scriptwriting.
Future vid idea: When Watches Were Fun.
I have a Pixel watch 2. You think 3 is worth upgrading?
1:17 that color scheme caught me by surprise 😅
I think when it comes to bands it's because the aftermarket options are just so much better and cheaper the big companies can't compete
What an excellent video. And I've ordered that strap!
Just wish it wasn't round though. Apple's form factor is more desirable to me, but i want the rest of the pixel watch
I'll be honest, I love the look of the 45mm Pixel watch. But there are a couple things I personally don't like. One is the bezels are pretty big. And although I love the look of the watch it's not practically for me. It scratches up pretty quickly. Since it has no protection around it you will bang it up. I really ment to love it but it's a no go for me 😁
I'm assuming the 9 Pro review is coming next?
Can't help wondering if the amount of people Google has put off buying this watch because of no physical protective bezel outweighs those that choose to actually buy it specifically because it has no physical protective bezel? Thanks for the video.
Fantastic review. Wouldn't expect anything else!
OnePlus Watch 2 my friend. Gotta love it.
Honest question, would you rather daily drive the Google pixel watch 3 or the Samsung watch 6 classic (47mm)?
