Critical note: don't ever let them shuffle their card's pile or the middle pile after they checked the card and don't let them shuffle when the deck is combined again. Placing the marked card in the middle of the deck ensures its location in the middle pile and thus the distance to the chosen card collected together like this. Cutting just swaps the order, but in case they're backwards, just rolling over to the beginning while counting does the job. Or it looks like the marked card is towards the end and you don't want to roll over, go backwards and add one to the count. And if the spectator chooses freely, make them set the card at the top. The shuffles and cuts are just as meaningless and superficial as they seem like, they're just mixing an independent section of the deck that doesn't play any role in the trick. As long as you don't let them shuffle or cut in the wrong place in the wrong time.

Great trick but spreading cards one by one and counting w.o not taking attention is so diffucult. Just 1 card below other would ruin the trick. So risky and diffucult

Just tried it and it didn't work... I did it opposite how you did it because I'm looking at a screen, so my left is your right. Maybe I counted the marked card as "one" and it's supposed to be the next card (but even the cards around the target card were wrong). I did something wrong, not going to use this one on my family.
