This is brilliant, Coach! Definitely one of the strongest card trick I have ever seen - self-working or otherwise. Also, it has the additional element of mentalism, which elevates it beyond just a "card trick." Not only that, but it is completely impromptu with any deck, the spectator can shuffle, and there is no set up, gaffs, or gimmicks required! Wow! And I really like your patter and presentation. Thank you for sharing this gem, and I really like that you gave credit to Charles Jordan (many others on UA-cam fail to credit the creators, which is a loss to the history of magic). You have a new sub.
Thank you!!! Just successfully performed the trick 3x to family members. I found it easier to ask the spectator to choose the actual say 12th card not the 13th card like you show in the video.
Great trick . When spectator does final cut at 8 mins, is there anything else I can add to convince spectator the card is lost ? Or would that disrupt the order to locate the cards ..
You could have the spectator cut and complete the cut as many times as they desire. It won't change or disrupt a thing. Furthermore, you can emphasize that they shuffled, they chose the number, and that there is no possible way that you can know either what their card is or where it is.
Nice trick Coach,-- BUT,-- As an amiture magician, I enjoy solving how the trick was done. In your performance when you spread the cards I made note of the bottom card, which was the 9 of hearts. I was very perplexed when you counted down 12 cards and revealed the 9 of hearts. After 10 or 15 minutes of mind bending torture, I proceeded to the tutorial. Long story short. Looks like some editing happened [no idea why] and unfortunately for you. You landed on that same nine of hearts.
Hey, yes, very good spot! There is indeed a continuity error there (I had some camera issues!). Hopefully that doesn't take away from how great the trick is though. Thanks for watching! 👍
Not necessarily. A set-up usually requires placing a specific card or stack of cards in a specific location within the deck itself. For example, placing the Ace of Spades 23 cards from the face of the deck or placing the Ace of Hearts through the King of Hearts on top of the deck. That is a set-up. In this trick, you, or the spectator are freely shuffling the deck and the magi is only remembering the top and bottom cards when they are spread on the table. These could be any two cards in the deck they happen to be.
Great effect and simple trick can perform anywhere anytime with any borrowed deck
Thanks for watching! 👍

Self working usually means prior setup.
