  • If your Jeep doesn't shift correctly, take a look at this video. The synchros aren't big enough to match the speed of the gears before they engage.

    Sometimes I can barely get the transmission into first, have to double clutch for second, and reverse can be hit or miss if it's going to be easy to get into. I know the shift fork assembly ain't cheap, about 500 bucks just for the fork assembly, and the gears are about a hundred dollars each. I think I might try and find a reman transmission.

    Just had my NSG370 rebuilt, its all fine except that every other shift into first grinds the syncro teeth.

    Hey man great info. I have that exact problem with first and second on my TJ. What's it costing you to get them replaced? Or are you doing it yourself?

      I paid $2,200 and I removed the transmission myself. Rebuilt units are hard to come by and often more expensive. My dealer quoted $5,300, but they're criminals. Since it's out of a Wrangler, and Wranglers don't see junkyards very often, there's just no inventory to rebuild and sell as re-manufactured.

    Your syncro teeth look like I expect them to - and the synchro teeth were large enough to work on my Jeep for 180k miles !!

    I have a Jeep Wrangler X 2009 2 door. When ever I let go of my clutch in 1st or 2nd gear it kind of shakes a little. But it’s only in those two gears. It just recently started happening and it has 77k miles.

    Yup. Sometimes I have issues going into reverse from neutral but its easier if I go from first to reverse.

    It sounds like I got lucky. My nsg370 in my 05 tj x just now got stuck in 6th gear. 330,000 miles on her and still on original everything minus a few fluid changes.

    My 2016 Jeep Wrangler just had mechanical issues.
    I was driving home from practice and on the way home this guy reversed out of his driveway and reversed into my lane; I quickly moved my clutch to nuetral and brakes fast (I was going 37mph and braked to 3mph). No pop, no grind nothing.
    After that happened I attempted to move to first gear and then second; but I couldn't find the spot to shift it in. I pulled into someone's driveway but I couldn't get it into reverse nor first.
    Instead of the gears being all centered it seems like it shifted left; now first and second gear are to the Far Left.
    I let my dad take a look at it and he noticed that the clutch turned about 45° counterclockwise. And forcibly turned it into the 0°.
    What happened????

    My 2008 jk wrangler 3.8 6 speed v6 right hand drive pops out of 1st gear on take off. I'm thinking of buying the improved B&M 45195 Precision Sport Manual Trans Shifter Kit from the US which will cost around $800 Australian and I need to be sure it will suit?
    My question is this.
    Is the shifter sequence the same for a left hand drive US model as the right hand drive export model?
    The shifter sequence on my right hand drive jk is forward far left from driver for 1st gear and back far right toward the driver for 6th & reverse.
    Hope you understand what I'm saying.

    • @CharlesCo918
      @CharlesCo918  8 років тому

      +Brandon Lyons I had it rebuilt. It was $2,200. I couldn't find a rebuilt unit for anywhere close to that price. A1 Transmission here in Denver did it, and they did a great job.

      +Charles Bloyer didn't trust the rebuilt transmissions on ebay? They sell for $1600. I was going to go that route but if I do it myself I'll save money and end up with a bunch of new tools. Now that I watch your video I'll need to crack mine open before I know if it a real option for me.

      Charles Bloyer don't they upgrade those bushings? I'm pretty sure they was a tech bulletin on this issue. it's the only manual trans offered in a Wrangler to ever make the worst 10 transmission list.

    okay here's a question I'm really hoping you have an answer to. I just dropped my transmission. when I took off my flywheel I notice that it feels like a two-piece unit and the actual friction piece where the pressure plate bolts to seems to spin separately from the geared part. is this something you noticed?

    My reverse in my nsg370 has started acting up. When putting it in reverse, I have to pull as hard as I can to get the gears to engage. Once I can get it engaged, its fine and will not pop out unintentionally. Unfortunately, its been getting harder and harder the last few weeks. Ive been told it's a bent shift fork? What are your thoughts?

    • @jong8542
      @jong8542 6 років тому +1

      Cody Buscher mine does the same thing once in a while..what i do is I put it in reverse to where it doesn't want to go anymore without any force then very very slowly release the clutch to the point it just barely grabs and with a tiny bit of pressure on the shifter it should slide into place

    • @codybuscher5732
      @codybuscher5732 6 років тому +1

      Hey guys i know this is an old comment I'm replying on but I'm having the exact same issue. It goes into reverse if I pull back on the stick while letting off the clutch but I'm worried about my tranny and this seems like a temporary solution. Did you have to have it rebuilt? Or is it just the plastic housing shown in this video causing stiffness in the shifting fork? Please reply lol

    • @codybuscher5732
      @codybuscher5732 3 роки тому

      @@adamgerald849 Mine got to the point where I could no longer get it into reverse. No matter how hard I pulled or smacked the shifter into reverse, it just wouldn’t grab. I ended swapping transmissions and never tore the old one apart. I can tell you it was definitely caused by slamming gears like I was in a race car and I found reverse instead of 6th gear on the interstate once..... lol.

    People do not understand why their synchromesh is destroyed. It is simple. If you refuse to rev match, the synchros will wear prematurely. Most transmissions are "progressive" types, which require that you wait quite long to complete your second gear shift. And then as you go up each gear you shift faster. I get honked at when starting off at lights because I wait for 2nd gear. Rev match into second (long wait) and a shorter wait as you go up the gears. Your transmission will last the life of the car as does mine. I have never owned an automatic, and I have never had a transmission failure. I am a 43 year veteran long haul driver, so I have a bit of an advantage on most green drivers. And by the way, the reason that reverse gear synchro are destroyed, is because you were ramming it too hard. Gentle guys! Stop ramming those poor transmissions, and they'll last the life of your car as do mine. Glad to help!

      Doug Stern that’s funny, I have noticed the rpms needing to come down before this transmission goes into 2nd easily. I am a 19 year truck driver and that makes since to me. I will probably have to rebuild my transmission because I didn’t get the Jeep until it had 90,000 miles on it when I got it.

    I have a 1995 wrangler and when shifting into 2nd gear no matter how far you push the clutch in it grinds could that have to do with the gears being worn down like that?

    • @Rsttactical
      @Rsttactical 7 років тому

      probably late to answer your question, but it would have to do with the syncronizers. does it only do that in second gear?

    Another reason you dont get a manual for off-roading.

    • @stevehascall4441
      @stevehascall4441 6 років тому +2

      Actually this is exactly why you get a manual for off-roading. Manual transmissions act up, they don't break down like automatics (never mind the fire hazard.) Never take an automatic off road so far that a flat bed tow truck can't reach you.
