How To Replace Leaking Volkswagen Bug Push Rod Tubes

Вставка
  • Опубліковано 26 лип 2022
  • Today's video, Levi and I show you the process of replacing your push rod tubes in your Volkswagen Type 1 engine. We used stock metal push rod tubes and not spring loaded push rod tubes. These type 1 engines are in the Split Window Bus, Early Bay window Bus, Beetles, Bugs, Super Beetle, Things, Baja and Karmann Ghia. The process is the same for the type 3 pancake engines that are found in the fast back and squareback.
You will normally need to pull your engine to complete this project. We were able to leave the engine in place since it was in a baja.

I like using the spring loaded ones. All you have to do is take the valve cover off, remove the rocker arms and pushrods then remove the old tubes then put adjustable tubes in. Reverse process and done. ALot less work but I understand why people want a more authentic look.

Absolutely!! Bajas are easier to work on for sure. Glad the cover plate solved your issue. This engine didn’t leak until we came back from the test drive and found that the higher rpm’s while driving bs putting in the neighborhood showed the leaks… they weren’t minor either lol

Great Vid Levi. hehehe Not everyone has a engine stand or a shop Great example that you can do it without. I did that on a 2110 sandrail one time. Hey Scott.
No sealant is needed on the push rod tube seals. Some people use sealant and that’s ok as long as you use a thin amount.
NO sealant between the heads and cylinders ever.

But have you ever seen leaks at head to cylinder?
Or is it a machined fit, I’m new to building motor

@@scoth5135 of you’re new to building these engines then check out many of my engine build videos.
When building the engine you lap the jugs to the heads to ensure a flat surface between the head and jug.
It can leak at that spot IF the head comes loose but not normally.

Do you mean to tell everyone you did all of that without replacing the head gaskets?

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  23 дні тому +1

Well considering there isn’t a head gasket, it would be difficult to replace said gasket.

      @@VWJawbreaker Thanks.
I've been a mechanic since i got out of the military in '86.
I've only had to do a handful of clutches and rear mains to Beetles early on.
I'll have to go back and look at more of your videos because that goes against everything I've known about combustion chambers.
Looking forward to it. Gonna learn something new.

@@almaiolatesi9567 I hear what you’re saying, trust me I do. However, AirCooled vw engines aren’t your typical Chevy or Cummins engines.
Also, thank you for your service!

Not getting it? Aren't you supposed to just put a $3.98 Walmart Door mat under it? I mean, I want it done right, not just kitty litter on the floor.

There’s a little bit still there but it isn’t too bad. I re indexed the rear torsion bars and that seemed to help some.
