@@gregschultz2029 thank you for taking the time to leave a comment I really appreciate that. They are very simple design, but sometimes can be frustrating. I don’t remember much about it since I was so young sadly.
Really good video. I remember the last VW me and my father worked on. I forgot the valves needed adjusting and I had a problem with the motor making a sucking noise. To make a long story short, when the valves were adjusted, the head bolts wer e not checked for appropriat e tightness. By the time the motor lost so much compression it wouldn't run, one head nut had dropped off and all the others on both heads were ready to do the same. When they were retightened, the rocker arms were so tight against the valves, they would have sent them through the heads immediately at start up. After a VW gets 75,000 miles check the head nuts every valve job to keep your 1600cc motor happy. 10:35 My Father warned me it needed a valve job, but he was not able to work on it like he used to. It had the original motor in it.

Thanks for the video, I have owned my 67 bus for about 22 years and have had beetles prior to that but it has been so long since I adjusted the valves being that I only drive it about 5k a year and in my old age I literally needed to see it done again. Very clear video and good explaining… Thing I disagree with is all the extra pulley turning… you can actually adjust cylinder 1 and 4 on the same crank rotation as well as 2 &4 thus cutting the time in half…

Thank you Tony. Finally did my first VW valve adjustment. 1600 that Lenny in Elizabeth rebuilt years ago. 009 and lash was 0 to less than .006.
