    Hey Crash Course,
    I research hemoglobin based oxygen carriers. I enjoyed the show, however modern research on the subject suggests that hemoglobin cannot be put directly in the blood because it would extravasate through the capillary wall and 1)scavenge NO and 2) cause oxidative stress. loved the show!

    Great video, you answered my emidiate question why not use hemoglobin directly ;)
    But still, why are the blood cells not smaller? Shouldn't it be pretty easy and much more efficient?

    • @johnandan1594
      @johnandan1594 9 років тому +1

      oggi mog he did mention in the video that free floating hemoglobin can thicken blood and make it harder for your heart to pump blood around the body which can lead to several complications so athletes wouldn't risk it as it can potentially kill them as their very own blood turn into the consistency of ketchup (not sure if it's true but ketchup was the first thing that came to mind)

    • @tomatensalat7420
      @tomatensalat7420 9 років тому +1

    • @adamlatosinski5475
      @adamlatosinski5475 9 років тому +1

      oggi mog They are already much smaller than most other human cells (the only smaller ones are sperm cells). If they were even smaller, we would need even more of them, which considering the way they are produced could actually be harder and more expensive.

    • @johnandan1594
      @johnandan1594 9 років тому +1

      oggi mog well that's like asking "why do we get older?" The answer, we will never know, it's just how things are.

    If I remember correctly, most of the transport of carbon dioxide in the blood is dissolved in the plasma (which then does the carbonic acid/bicarbonate buffer thing), not in the erythrocytes. Unless that's what you mean that you'll discuss it in the respiratory system section . . .

    I really need some info on the relevance of specific vitamin intake and the production of white blood cells or how they contribute to bone marrow growth. Please help. My moms in the hospital with a low white blood cell count and my doctor thinks smoothies with spinach, nuts and seeds is pointless. Thanks so much.
