I was exhausted, diligently taking notes, pausing the video and rewinding. FINALLY felt that I was starting to get a complete understanding for the metabolism... and then the intro played.
well... I was looking for refresher videos (beside to obvious studying) for an interview for a master's programme during which I also have to take a 1 h multiple choice test on various fields. This video was an utter waste of time
Crash course is the goat. I watch the videos before college lecture. I find having an introduction to the topic in such a fun and entertaining way makes the lecture go down easier. I can also rewatch to help nail In understanding. This is helping me keep my gpa high enough to stay in honors. As someone who almost dropped out of high school 13 uears ago, these videos feel like they’re giving me a fighting chance. Thank you guys!
Dam guys I didn't think you would go this deep. You made it to 3rd year biochem materials, never expected anyone to go that far in a small webshow. It may have been generalized but still, that is an achievement; bravo sirs, bravo.
An instructor from an A&P class I took years ago pointed out that pretty much every "popular" food combo we can think of contains all the essential amino acids. Cultures that first discovered these combinations had the habit of not being dead during tough times when dietary options were reduced down to simple of dishes of beans and rice, peas and carrots, etc. And now a-days, those combinations are basically ingrained into the culture of what we eat together.
When students procrastinate homework that's apart of a multi day lesson intended to teach them, to watch a video 10 minutes long and learn MORE about the subject than the class can... Something is wrong...
alot of people that train and workout listen to bodybuilders for nutrition when they need to understand the basics and these videos are the best there is! and i dont think you can get bored of this information! Keep it up! :)
i think a lot of people are here so they don’t fail a class they haven’t been paying attention in lately, but i’m just here bc i want to feel smart for once hahaha
Wanna say a huge thank you to this man... .i need to learn this stuff for my course but my lecture is so shite, honestly she is so bad and i didn't understand any of it but thanks to him, im starting to understand it :)
Loving this new bit of having little animations interacting with you on screen, Loved little Sisyphus pushing the bolder up your arm and on the recent CC Astronomy it really cracked me up when Phil became Spectroscopy Man!
I would argue that Hank makes one error at time point 5:25 when he states that ATP is too unstable to store. As a professor of biochemistry at a university, here is my explanation taken from my own course materials! "So, why doesn’t the body store up lots of ATP for use when needed? While some make an argument of stability, the issue is actually efficiency. The molecule of ATP is actually quite stable, if left on its own to degrade without the help of an enzyme, it would remain intact for about three years! However, there is only so much phosphate available to the cell and the molecule of ATP requires a considerable carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen structure to support those high energy phosphate bonds. Further, your body can store the energy of over 30 ATP in one molecule of glucose, so it is space saving. Therefore, we pack our liver with about a 24 hour supply of glycogen (a polymer of glucose and our molecular fast food) and oxidize that in order to make more ATP when needed. In order to store the same amount of energy as ATP, it would take 60 livers worth of space!"
I’m finally understanding crash course. The trick is to keep your mind open. Don’t get caught up in the WHY just understand what’s placed in front of you. Then, in the future, things will slowly come together over time.
One can see that there is so much effort and time put into these videos by looking at the quality of the production, from content to organisation to animations and even filming!!! And this effort should be acknowledged, so thank you and GOOD JOB to hank and everyone who worked on all the crash course videos. YOU PEOPLE ROCK !!!
Man this is just great, this is such a great video! You nailed this one man and really I'm going to have to study it a few times and look forward to it! I've been learning everything in catabolic scattered pieces and this video is the anabolic equivalent of what I needed!!!
OMG! Next video PLEASE describe how the body stores excessive energy as body fat so i can just link to these videos to people who have no clue how body fat works!
+Michaela Dove When carbs are not needed they form Glycogen in the liver for short term storage since it is easy to access. Rest goes as fat in adipose cells for long term storage (as it takes more energy to return glucose from fat). Carbs are turned to glucose and put through the Krebs cycle for energy when needed by a cell.
+Na5iR11 I just want it in a video form so instead of trying to explain the process to people I can just link them CrashCourse's video! I love how CrashCourse goes in-depth with these subjects while doing their best to try and not get people lost.
incredible video!--those graphic gangstas know where its at. also, minor correction, but every food we eat has ALL the amino acids we need, just not in the quantity we may want : ) (for instance, celery has every amino acid, but only MICROgrams and not milligrams worth of amino acids : )
My professor is using this for our nutrition course because our classes are online now due to COVID-19. It's really cool! He built a quiz into it and everything!
I just have to say thank you. And for all the people out there who complains about how fast he speeks. Dudes you can adjuste the velocity or watch another video. Search for solutions and don let hate on the comments section.
I REALLY APPRECIATE that you mentioned plants having fats. Like i only eat things that are grown (not born), and i get everything i need from them :):):)
Awesome explanations as always ! Clear, synthetic, instructive and educational ! It's fantastic to learn from your crash courses, great job ! Please keep doing what you do !
Wow! Thank You, All who are part of this fantastic video ... which to date is the best brief over view of this topic I've seen. Love & Peace, and good metabolism, to All
First time here. I paused the video thousands time and still don't understand. I guess have to take note and do some research before watching the crash course. Will come back!! He is awesome!
It is the best channel I've ever seen! I'm saying ,,thank you" very loudly. Sooo many interesting topics (physiology, history, economics, art, o my God!) explaned in a beautiful and easy-to-understand way...It is a dream. Thank you, thank you!
Wow I literally have a test on this tomorrow and was planing on procrastinating when i saw it and didn't realize what it was bout till after I watched it.
Did he like did this without a script or there's a screen that he reads behind the screen, cause if he's not he's really one incredibly good in giving a talk like this
This is great information. The only thing I would say is you speak really fast :) I had to pause it a few times to digest the information. A part from that I'm going to keep watching :) thank you for doing this.
37 trillion cells? As of 2017 the number of red blood cells amount to no less than 25 trillion, with a body total of around 100 trillion cells including RBC's and cells of all other types. Science. Gotta love the flexibility and adaptation to new knowledge.

I am a nutrition and dietetics student studying about metabolism and this is the best video ever❤👍👍👍

+Adrian Fahrenheit 'Specially if you have A&P as a course. "It's not procrastinating, mom! I'm studying!"
+Adrian Fahrenheit I'm procrastinating insted of doing my Biology homework :D
+Adrian Fahrenheit Beautiful raccoon. Must glomp.
+Adrian Fahrenheit Yea mom, I'm not being lazy, I'm studying biology
same
Crash Course has saved me many a times, from junior year Anatomy, to senior year AP Biology, to my 1st year Nutrition class.
When students procrastinate homework that's apart of a multi day lesson intended to teach them, to watch a video 10 minutes long and learn MORE about the subject than the class can... Something is wrong...
+Newton Lavoisier Not really. People love to learn new things, no one loves homework.
Exactly~
Newton Lavoisier I'm just waiting for the wildstar free to play launch myself. I haven't been in school for 10 years, but I still don't like homework.
+AmaranteStryfe Whoa, really?? I've been waiting for Wildstar to go f2p since 2 months before it was released. Thanks for the great news!
+Newton Lavoisier
The thing is that the way they teach (crash course) is interesting...
Comparing Gordon Ramsey to DNA was the best thing that happened to me all day :D

Legends say he still is spontaneously delivering the lecture
So much information in this video.. I think I retained about 1/4 of it.. but it’s a start. I always wondered what metabolism actually was.
I would love a crash course physics!!

You seem like a chill guy. You also make stuff sound interesting, subbed!
You guys are doing an amazing job. I wish your videos could reach every child, teenager or adult who wants to learn. Congratulations!
well these 10 minutes were more educational than an entire nutrition course i took in uni :D
Great vid. I'm learning this in class right now. Also the different cycles on how ADP turns to ATP.
Man this is just great, this is such a great video! You nailed this one man and really I'm going to have to study it a few times and look forward to it! I've been learning everything in catabolic scattered pieces and this video is the anabolic equivalent of what I needed!!!

+lightsier Yes, I'm looking forward to the part of what happens with Carbs we don't need/use. It's one of my favorite topics. :)

+Michaela Dove But I just realised that you probably already know that since it is your favorite topic. Wow I am slow lol.
+Na5iR11 I just want it in a video form so instead of trying to explain the process to people I can just link them CrashCourse's video! I love how CrashCourse goes in-depth with these subjects while doing their best to try and not get people lost.

also, minor correction, but every food we eat has ALL the amino acids we need, just not in the quantity we may want : ) (for instance, celery has every amino acid, but only MICROgrams and not milligrams worth of amino acids : )

excellent episode!
i think you just uploaded a whole field of science to my brain, thank you sir!
Great lesson! I love a good refresher on nutrition as it is what I'm going to school for. Loved the Gordon Ramsay animation, by the way!

Wow! Thank You, All who are part of this fantastic video ... which to date is the best brief over view of this topic I've seen. Love & Peace, and good metabolism, to All
Yes!!! We need more of this in fitness and health and less "bro science". Really enjoyed it. We have videos on physiology and health too!
First time here. I paused the video thousands time and still don't understand. I guess have to take note and do some research before watching the crash course. Will come back!! He is awesome!
I'm so glad this subject is on crash course!
Watching this to help better understand my body to increase my fitness!
All humans on earth are to focused on better health by eating healthy and good foods, always make sure you retain all the nutrient in your food.
nice speed. did not take all day to cover essentials. Lipids a good term. I understand oil to be from plants and fat from animals which people mix up.

Been waiting for something like this forever!
Excellent! Thank you for this great video! Very shareable!
Speech sounds breathless, Complex terms are making it wrose
I love your channel to bits
Normally I need to put 1.25 or 1.5 or even 1.75 speed in videos where people explain things because they speak so slow but here 0.75 seems reasonable
