Technically Bryce, you did call it! I'm sure other comments can elaborate, but when this movie came out, it didn't have the alternate endings. Different theaters had different endings. So depending on which theater you went to, you would have been right!
You are correct. 3 ends for one movie, so it would feel more like the board game. When you got your tickets at the box office, they would hand out paper clue sheets, similar to that of the game. Each would be marked with either an A, B, or C for each ending. I know, because I was there. I had seen endings B and C, Scarlett and Peacock. It would be years later once it came out in home media that I finally got to see the final ending. They say it's the true ending, but really, any of them are true
There is also a play version that has 4 different endings. I did it in high school and it was a huge hit. The 4 monologues that Wadsworth has to memorize are no joke.
The House Un-American Activities Committee was indeed a real Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1938 until 1975. Its purpose was to investigate private citizens, public employees, and organizations suspected of having ties to communism/communist regimes. It was part of the "Red Scare" during the Cold War era. They also investigated those suspected of being Nazi sympathizers. Wadsworth's wife was suspected of being a communist and "Mr. Body" was allegedly threatening to turn over proof of her communist ties to that Committee, which could result in federal treason charges.
@@MichaelJohnson-vi6eh In my experience people hear "McCarthyism" and assume it was just one cranky guy named McCarthy when, in reality, it was a massive US program.
The magic of the fake out endings and them all being guilty is that in the game, it changes every time you play! There's no set ending, the details will change every time. This movie is campy and hilarious and just so so fun.
Some trivia for you: The colour of the cars match the characters' names and player pieces in the game. Miss Scarlet drives a red car, Plum - purple, Peacock - blue etc. The parquetry on the floor represents the squares on the gameboard. The layout matches the boardgame including the secret passages. Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet) was a last minute replacement for Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) who went to rehab. The singing telegram girl was played by Jane Wiedlin from the 80s band The Go-Gos. Writer and director Jonathan Lynn was friends with Tim Curry since they were teenagers.
@@Karen_Tries Yes! And shockingly enough that was the only scene that was improved! I’m sure someone has said this. So the police will be here in 45 minutes is actually a countdown for how long the movie run time is till the chief rings the doorbell for the first time.
This movie used to be my and my sister's favorite growing up as kids. I'll still quote it sometimes to make her laugh here and there. It's such a good film.
Fun fact: depending on the theater you saw the movie depended on which ending you saw. I believe they listed it as Ending A, B or C in the listings. When it released to video they combined it as you saw during your viewing. 😊
One reason for the multiple endings is that's how the game of Clue goes - every time you play, there's a different outcome. I LOVE that they thought of that!!! PS the movie WAS made in 1985... and it was 70s Tim Curry Bryce looks like
Such a quotable movie. Almost every single line. My favorite scene of lines. The Chief: Good evening. Have you ever given any thought to the kingdom of Heaven? Mrs. Peacock: What!? The Chief: Repent. The kingdom of heaven IS at hand. Miss Scarlet: You ain't just whistlin' Dixie. The Chief: Armageddon is almost upon us. Professor Plum: I got news for you - it's already here! Mrs. Peacock: Go away! The Chief: But your souls are in danger! Mrs. Peacock: Our lives our in danger, you beatnik! or Professor Plum: What are you afraid of? A fate worse than death? Mrs. Peacock: No, just death. Isn't that enough?

Thanks, Bryce! Thanks, Rob! 🔍 I love this one. Jonathan Lynn directed. 🔸 If you'd like to see more with the actor who portrayed 'Mrs. White', Madeline Kahn, be sure to check out her cinematic debut in which she steals *every* scene she's in... WHAT'S UP DOC? (1972). 🔸 And you *must* see Lesley Ann Warren, who played 'Miss Scarlet' in VICTOR/VICTORIA (1982). 🔸 As for 'Mrs. Peacock', she was brought to life by the late, great Eileen Brennan. See a different side of her in PRIVATE BENJAMIN (1980).
I was so delighted to see somebody react to this film! It is a goldmine, one of the few films I’ve ever owned on VHS and DVD, and we especially need more films with multiple alternative endings.
Clue is the best Black Comedy Murder Mystery to watch during a fun weekend night with friends, also I played the original Clue broad game three times when I was in Junior High School.
“i had to stop her from screaming”, “flames on the side of my face”. my and my sister always say lines from this movie lol. mr green is the one who played in back to the future as doc
Thank you for reacting to this. It's one of my top five movies of all time. If you liked Lesley Ann Warren, you should definitely check out Victor/Victoria (with Julie Andrews and Robert Preston).
Saw it in theaters during its initial run back in 85. (That's how old I am). Love it. I was impressed how many of the jokes you got considering some you need to be of a certain age to get. As others have said, each theatre had a different ending. At multiplexes, you could see it multiple times and get a different ending each time out of the three. When I saw it, I saw the final ending (Green). But it showed on 3 screens at that theatre and each one had a different one of the three endings,
Great reaction! One of my favorite movies. This ensemble was tops. So many jokes and overlapping dialogue - not easy to perform - and rarely done in cinema anymore. All of the actors had other popular roles at the time too. Funny how Tim Curry does resemble Bryce here, maybe you could go as him for Halloween, or have a Clue themed party, ha
In the theatrical release, only 1 ending would show but depending on the showing you'd get a different one. That way they'd get people to go multiple times
That was the plan, but it was generally perceived as a shameless money grab and kept potential viewers away. The movie became a cult classic when it was released on video.
The fun part about this movie when it released in theaters was that you could go and not know which ending you’d get. When it game out on home media is when they put all 3 endings together. Also there was a cut 4th ending that’s lost to time where Wadsworth (not Mr. Boddy pretending to be Wadsworth) killed everyone.
You might recognize the motorist as Jeffrey Kramer, the actor who played Hendricks in Jaws! The singing telegram girl was played by Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go's. And Mr. Boddy was played by Lee Ving, of the punk band Fear.
Love this movie! Thank you guys for reacting to a long time favourite of mine, and one I and many others have suggested ❤️ the jokes still land every time for me 😂
Your guess was completely valid. You have to remember that the cards are shuffled before you begin the game, so anyone can be the killer, when you play. That means that there are potentially even more than three endings, though the one with Miss Scarlett is valid. As far as the game is concerned, you can't really have everyone be a killer. There are also a few reasons why the final ending doesn't quite make sense.
Originally, each movie theater showed only one of the endings, not all three. So, if you went to Theater A in Anywhere Town, you saw the first ending, but your friend, who went to Theater B in Right Here City saw the second ending, and your cousin who went to Theater C in Townsville saw the third. It wasn't until the movie was released on home video that all three endings were presented together. Those were some fun conversations to have with friends and family, and you'd try to find which theater was playing which ending so you could go see it.
Leslie Ann Warren (Miss Scarlet) was hilarious in Victor/Victoria, which is a great movie. Also, she and Martin Mull (Col. Mustard) played Britta's parents in Community.

i love this movie so much !! fun fact : when it first played in theaters, the ending was "chosen at random" between the 3 and changing constantly depending on the time you went to see it. So apparently it was confusing at the start because friends that had gone to see the movie separately could have seen different endings 😅 My dad said he only saw all 3 endings once he had bought the digital version when it came out. Always thought it was a pretty bold decision coming from the producers, but a cool one !

What a gem 💎 my all time favorite game to play! A friend of mine had a Clue birthday party🕵️♀️ throughout the entire sleepover we’d be called to find clues all over the house. At breakfast the next morning, we were going to be told who had been behind it all. Unfortunately, I had to leave early & her mom still told me it was her Dad😂 I got the prize since I had written him as a suspect!! I also had the game that built the mansion & had sensors for each location. Due to age & how often we played, certain sensors stopped working. As well as the speaker who would talk the game out loud. (Ex: Miss Scarlet in the stables. Now entering the Kitchen. Secret passage to the observatory) It was devastating when we had to throw it away🥺
Want some older movies? How about something starring Cher, one of her classics from the 1980s, early 1990s? Witches of Eastwick (w/ Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon), and Mask from 1985 - honestly one of the best movies out there, Moonstruck (for which she won the Oscar for Best Actress, it also stars a young Nicholas Cage), Silkwood (with Meryl Streep and Kurt Russell), Suspect (with Liam Neeson and fascistic dictator-loving Dennis Quaid) and Mermaids (with Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci) - just a few recommendations of the beautiful, talented Goddess of All 😉
This makes me so happy. I was born in 1981, this is one of those movies that shaped my childhood. Much like the Goonies and such movies from the mid 80’s to mid 90’s. Takes me back. Gotta say, I really enjoy you guys! Cheers!
HUAC was very much a real thing. That this picture tied into McCarthyism was the initial draw for me. But I stayed for the comedy. And got the Miss Scarlett ending at my movie theater.
This is my favorite movie of all time. If you put it on mute, I could recite it beginning to end, sound effects included. I think I watch it twice a month at least. It's really so audibly appealing. Like the dialogue, the pacing, the delivery, the music, the sound effects...it's masterful to listen to. So fun. And the dialogue is so clever that I kept catching new jokes years after I first saw it. And the cast chemistry is next level. I'm so glad you got to watch this and enjoy it!
Rob and Bryce, with SE4 of "Only Murders in the Building" dropping in just 34 days time on August 27, will you two be reacting to SE3's 10 episodes between now and then ? I really hope so as I love your reactions to this series.
Yeah, Doc (born in 1920, according to the novelization) was played both a bit older and a bit younger than Christopher Lloyd (born in 1938) really was in 1985.
She made her debut on Tv playing Cinderella in the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, which would air on television once a year for many years. She was only 18-19 years old at that time. Another great movie role of hers, if it hasn't been reacted to yet is 1982's Victor/Victoria. She played a supporting role, but she made the most of it.
"Good Night and Good Luck" is a great movie about the The House Un-American Activities Committee and Sen. Josepth McCarthy's fight with the famous radio war journalist Edward R Murrow.
Regarding the Farce genre: Farce is a comedy that seeks to entertain an audience through situations that are highly exaggerated, extravagant, ridiculous, absurd, and improbable.[1] Farce is also characterized by heavy use of physical humor; the use of deliberate absurdity or nonsense; satire, parody, and mockery of real-life situations, people, events, and interactions; unlikely and humorous instances of miscommunication; ludicrous, improbable, and exaggerated characters; and broadly stylized performances.
Then he played Pennywise the Dancing Clown in 1990 (television miniseries) and terrified the children of at least one nation. Thank you, Tim Curry, for every part you played so very, very well.

Cheers!
When this was in theaters, each one would have one of the different endings instead of all 3
Tim Curry... severely disabled from a massive stroke now, but had a starring role in 2 of the most beloved cult movies in history ( this and RHPS)
And let’s not forget *Legend* and *It!*
I love watching these boys react to classic movies!
HUAC was very much a real thing. That this picture tied into McCarthyism was the initial draw for me. But I stayed for the comedy. And got the Miss Scarlett ending at my movie theater.
I never even realized Christopher Loyd was in this 😭
I feel like the whole act 3 of scream 3 always reminded me of this movie.
They obviously made Christopher Lloyd look much older than he was in Back to the Future. That and this both came out in 1985.
Yeah, Doc (born in 1920, according to the novelization) was played both a bit older and a bit younger than Christopher Lloyd (born in 1938) really was in 1985.
THE THUMBNAIL
OMG you do look like a very young tim curry!
Leslie Ann Warren played Miss Scarlett. She was a Disney star when she was younger, (The Happiest Millionaire), and was in musicals and broadway.
@@robincochran7369She was also the female lead in a film of Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Holy shit Bryce … you do look like younger Tim curry
I RELATE TO THE MRS SCARLET CRUSH SO MUCH
*Hears Bryce say he has a crush on Miss Scarlet and makes note to self* Dress as Miss Scarlett for Halloween
I love the Clue movie so much!
One of the best movies ever made.
"Good Night and Good Luck" is a great movie about the The House Un-American Activities Committee and Sen. Josepth McCarthy's fight with the famous radio war journalist Edward R Murrow.
Regarding the Farce genre:
Farce is a comedy that seeks to entertain an audience through situations that are highly exaggerated, extravagant, ridiculous, absurd, and improbable.[1] Farce is also characterized by heavy use of physical humor; the use of deliberate absurdity or nonsense; satire, parody, and mockery of real-life situations, people, events, and interactions; unlikely and humorous instances of miscommunication; ludicrous, improbable, and exaggerated characters; and broadly stylized performances.
Clue is one of my favorite movies of all time. I have seen it so many times since I was a kid. I love it so much!
One of my favorite "back in the day"messed up funny movies
Rocky horror picture show came out in 75 then tim curry played lord darkness in legend then he kinda mellowed out in clue
Then he played Pennywise the Dancing Clown in 1990 (television miniseries) and terrified the children of at least one nation.
Thank you, Tim Curry, for every part you played so very, very well.
@@barnoscarsson6741And also starred in Muppet Treasure Island.
RIP Martin Mull
Clue came out in 1985.
I was sus of the maid and Waddsworth from the beginning but I didn't expect the ending, or that the first 'ending' was fake.
YESSS! This is one of the most quotable movies of all time. So glad you guys have finally come across it.
This was a childhood fav ....so much nostalgia
One of my favorite classics
I need to watch this movie more. It's a classic ❤
