Jared, what’s going on??? Thanks so much for doing this! I been waiting for a tutorial by you with this unit as your tutorials are one of UA-cams finest! Again, thanks a ton!
Great video Jared but re the question on dual routing & whether you reach DSP limits more quickly, I'm not sure the Boss text you showed is actually relevant to the question here. With dual routing you are loading 2 amps that can either be selected separately or used together. I believe the answer is therefore an absolute 'yes' because you have an additional amp selection in the chain. Even if you are only 'activating' one of the amp models, the GX100 still has to allocate/reserve the DSP for the other amp model so that when you do engage it, it's 'there'. In this regard it's no difference to adding an FX to your chain and switching it off - GX100 DSP is based on the amp/fx physically being included in the signal chain, regardless as to whether the amp/fx is 'active' (i.e. on or off) in the chain. DSP calculation is on the total amp/fx models included in the entire signal chain regardless of whether it's single or dual routing. Hope this is helpful. it's also perhaps worth mentioning that all the 'Plus' models use up more DSP than their 'simple' counterparts because they are more complex sounding with much wider parameter control options, so there is more signal processing involved.
Thanks appreciate that and I'm sure it'll help others too. I was literally bombarded with questions and wanted to try and answer some for guys on the fence. So at that point in time that's how far my knowledge was with it. Agree with your comment though. I just felt I should share that comment from boss as that is their answer to dsp questions. Helping everyone help everyone 😁
I'm looking to replace my GT-100 (was looking for GT-1000, but it was too expensive). I mostly play at small gigs and I practice using backing tracks (sometimes using headphones to not bother the neighbours :P ). My questions are the following: -How is this unit compared to a GT001 or a GT-100 (because the GT-100 is still very capable)? Is it much improved, or is it only the same things put into a different packaging? -Can the bluetooth interface output sound into bluetooth headphones (because the modern market tends to shift from using jacks) ? -Can it output sound from the computer via bluetooth (connect the GX-100 to a computer via USB => using it as a soundcard; output sound via the unit's bluetooth interface) ? -Can you please do a video about the GX-100's harmoniser? How does it handle chords? Can it handle slow bends or does it sound robotic?
OK....I bought a GX-100 and the bluetooth adapter so I'm answering my own questions: -The GX100 has pretty much the same features like the GT100 (chromatic tuner, also the GT100 has also a metronome built in). The GX100 can process the sound better, it sounds more natural (you only see the difference when you compare it directly) -The bluetooth interface can not connect to devices, only a Phone/Laptop can connect to the unit => It is a MIDI interface with bluetooth, so no music playthough can be done (no backing track playback via bluetooth :( ) -Because it's only a bluetooth MIDI interface, it is not possible to output sound via bluetooth (So it's not possible to connect the USB to the unit and use it as a bluetooth sound interface) -The harmoniser is very responsive, it can handle bends in real time (not like the GT100). It can handle chords, but it's not the best (but not bad eather). Yes, it can handle slow bends also, it doesn't sound robotic (was expecting this, because this issue was fixed already on the Katana MK1)
Tks a lot man that was really helpful. Much more helpful than the typical demo/advertisment that most UA-camrs produces. I was quite please by what I heard with the reverbs. I LL have to grab a pair of better headphones and go through them once more. And it seemed to le that the rev plus were more polished. Waiting for your video comparing it with the core. Lots of people have been commenting in the past that the quality of the gt 1000 was in the sound but also the feel and the way the amp reacts to playing. Let us know if you notice a difference in the feel too. Tks
Fantastic video, I just found your channel. Please do more, I am looking at this multi fx unit, and I wanted to understand it more. Keep the videos coming
Wow. Thanks for the Q&A. Very informative and it answered some of the questions on the capabilities of this fine unit. Oh, by the way, do you have any of your tones available to share? Again, thanks for a very interesting and informative video. Great overdrives and distortions.
Hello, I have the Boss GT-100 and with it you can control Virtual Instruments with your guitar (Audio to MIDI) EX: I can play a vsti Flute with my Guitar. Does the Boss GX-100 have the same feature? Thank you - Jason Morin
In case u plan on doing an other video on the gx100. I d be interested if u can go through the different delays effect the same way you did with the reverbs. That was awesome. Tks
Thank you very much friend, I was wondering if there is a possibility to change the functionality of the "bank up" and "bank down" buttons for effect pedals
@@klausrichter778 that's the whole point though, the unit's I have now either have TRS or XLR balanced outputs. This means no extra gear, like direct boxes, between my unit and front of house FoH. For a modern multi-effects, this should be a standard.
What I wanna know is how is he recording the GX100 via USB into his computer while simultaneously recording his voice through a mic (presumably to the same computer via USB interface. Unless he's recording his voice to a separate device?). It seems to me you can only have one USB audio input at a time.
Is it possible to connect the mobile phone to the gx100 to listen to music (for example, from spotify ..) while I play the guitar on gx100 with headphones? If so, how? I don't see any audio input on the rear panel ... THANX & CONGRATS
Greetings Jared! I bought a gx100 and am playing it through the power amp in on my katana MK2. I have been advised to run the GX with the IRs turned off when playing through a guitar amplifier. With the IRs off, I'm hearing a horrible static sound when using higher gain settings. Any thoughts on why this may be occurring? Thanks
Hi dude, personally, I'd go into the RETURN and leave my IRs on. And check the output settings of the GX to see if it's got KTN return. Play around with all the outputs, remember it aint cast in stone, they're just different EQ modes basically. You might prefer plugging straight in the front. Keep trying and find the Input/Return/PowerAmpIn that gives you the best feel and tone. I used to gig with a Pedal and 2 wedges, and they were old as heck, but sounded great with the FOH PA went on. Just remember too that you KTN has a global EQ so if you're close, use a preset there and tweak it the frequencies you don't like. IR on or IR off.. it's really up to your preference.
Can the harmonizer be used as a drop tune function? Like on the old digitech gsp1101 you could drop the tuning in half step increments like their drop tune pedal.
I can’t find anyone demonstrating the use of third party IRs. Are they only usable within the amp block? Can you send cab sim through one output but bypass cab sim through the other?
If you dont feel limited by the fixed block types and dont care about the touch screen then the GT-1000 is less limited in other areas like having dual stereo outputs with separate choices of speaker emulation on or off for example. The GX-100 seems great, but its only real advantage over the GT-1000 from what i can see is the freely assignable blocks.
@@Stefan- ye, that's why I said it's flagship to the right type of person, so price point vs needs of the pedal, etc. Agree with the way you've worded it 👍
@@JaredGunstonTV Thanks, I have to get a GX-100 first and try. My amp is switched by a TRS jack cable so with the amp CTL 1, 2 connection on the GX-100 it might work
@@JaredGunstonTV It works! There are a few ways to assign the amp switch to a switch on the pedalboard, but the way I want to use it is on the user presets. For that select an user preset and enter the effects loop. Then go to the last blue tile MST (master). On the second page you will be able to set AMP CTL 1 or 2 to on or off for each preset.
One function I imagined would be simple turns out not to be a priority for anyone tutorial videos or the manual. My first thought was to assign specific presets already in the memory to each of the four main numbered switches. Eventually I'll learn how to fashion my own signal paths, and to manipulate the individual components of a signal chain, but that's going to take me some time. Right out of the box, I'm looking for a simple solution that gives me a handful of sounds that suit my needs, and switch between them with those four switches. When reading reviews of this unit, I got the impression that a big selling point was being able to assign sounds you wanted to use to those four switches, saving yourself endless on-stage scrolling to get from one to another with the Bank up and down buttons. Is what I'm describing even possible?
I LOVE this unit! The best $600 I have ever spent on gear. I traded my axe fx ultra (and footswitch) for it with NO REGRETS.

Can you use the built-in expression pedal to effect the parameters of the delay effect? Thanks for the video
