    Hey I'm enjoying this series :)
    Somewhere in this video, I heard you say you needed dry skins for leather; that is the same mistake I'd made and that got me in trouble later when all my sledges started to fall apart and I had no leather to replace them.
    For leather, you need RAW skins, so the tanner is competing with the skin dryers, not complementing them... if your skin dryers are on automatic, you'll never get leather, because all the raw skins will get dried immediately.
    If you found this out already, consider this a very lengthy "Hi" ;)

    • @Rhadamant
      @Rhadamant  5 років тому

      Yeah I meant raw =] That's why I prioritized the tanner and tannin =]

    Tannins come from hardwoods, that’s why the oak can be harvested. In real life, tannins are the brown staining of water by decaying plant materials. In the aquarium keeping hobby we use hardwoods as decorations and they make your fish tank water brown. They also have a lot of powerful healing abilities, tannins can also come from other materials such as tea leaves, katana leaves, husks and shells, etc.

    I've played through to completion twice. From what I can tell, the only animals you really need to go out of your way to hunt early are wooly mammoths and wooly rhinos, because those go extinct after the second era, I believe. For the most part, the others you will gain hunting knowledge naturally as you go. Also, knowledge points never really become problematic, so it's not a big deal if you advance without hunting animals before they go extinct. There is more than enough knowledge available from production and building.

    • @Rhadamant
      @Rhadamant  5 років тому

      I've played thru a few times as well, more than that went extinct for me but it doesn't really matter because knowledge is easy to come by

    Hello Rhadamant, thanks for showing up this game, I think its great! By the way, I just discovered that double right clickin make the people run and I found it as a powerfull tool to kit enemies and even get faster to things which slightly increase productivity! Keep it up with the good games. Cheers

    This was really good apart from the more dangerous animals are not as dangerous as they should be, which would make it much more interesting. The other thing is that you can't "extinct an animal or animals"! You can make an animal or animals GO extinct, extinct is not a verb it's an adjective.

    I just have to point out that when you unlock pottery, I can't really see why you don't think pottery would be used to store water.

    • @Rhadamant

      True, but you don't actually ever make pottery. You unlock it, but never craft pots.

    Not sure which animals go extinct with the advance to next age, but would make a lot of sense to focus on those almost exclusively and leave any others for a later time. No idea if you were doing that already, but I believe reindeers are still around now. :) I noticed there were a LOT less animals around in general once you boosted age's, but that may have just been the camera focus.

    • @Rhadamant
      @Rhadamant  5 років тому

      In my experience it's actually fairly easy to tech up and get to all of the technology without having to min-max animals bound for extinction.

    • @grutzkopf6804
      @grutzkopf6804 5 років тому

      You cant bring Animals to go extinct via hunting. Its only about the "Technologytime".
      There is a steamchallenge "have a 100ppl in a paleolithic village" it was very hard to achieve because you need to hunt nearly all of your foot and no one go extinct. When i reached it i had roughly 120 knowlegepoints and used them to reach the "last age" ironage i think... and all of the "Animal goes extinct" warnings came one after another.

  • @LTL_king
    @LTL_king 5 років тому +4

    I know. It's a wall. HA, but it's good info.
    Which animals go extinct when? I go through tech so fast I didn't notice. Already up to transitioning into farming and all the animal domestication. Had I known. Would have gone slower.
    Wait till you get there. When you get a 4+ farms. The workload in spring and fall is overloaded.
    Practicing fro the get all tech in 5 hour achievement.
    Your straw will be gone before you get to use it. Check the information help, I think it's around half a year without a haystack.
    I trade winter clothes for dried skin and tanned hide for summer clothes but I usually have a low source of tanned hides. They get them on the drier faster than I could get them to the tanner.
    You can trade 3-4 skins for 1-2 clothes and 3 skins makes 6 clothes (approximate depends on the trader.) Huge profit on those. I also have it set to 125% of the pop.
    Buy up all the skins and sell what you can then supplement the rest with food.
    Then selling bone tools and food to supplement the cost dif.
    Buy any flint you can. It's worth 2 but can make 2 items. I don't sell flint tools. I'm always running low.
    There's a tips panel in the info.
    It says to hold "H" when you select people to only select those that have hunting tools.
    Hold "I" to select people with harvesting tools. I guess that means pick or sith, sillth, si.... the thing for harvesting fields.
    Drag an area. Hold H or I and wait a few seconds. Those without the right tool will be removed.
    I recently learned dogs are set to the number of people you have or could be the tech tree. Not sure. If you find out. Let us know.
    It starts at 5.
    You can try to get more but they started to die off. I had no females. Ha.
    Stationeers let's play? I haven't played in 5-6 months, not much on the updates, and not very good. It's so immersive.
    Would like to see it though.
    The other series on the tube are....... I can't watch long enough.
    Your very informative show it all when you play. Not just going through the motions and explaining after the fact.
    Maybe just play a little at a time and release in many segments.

    tannin + RAW skin =leather. One way to make sure skins don't get dried up later on is to remove your skin driers and wait for tannin collection to catch up with raw skin stocks. fyi :)

    Not sure mining works like that. AFAIK you need to place a mine "building" on the mine, else they just gather the resources laying outside the mine entrance. Though I might be wrong and the mine building is only available later.

      @Rhadamant  5 років тому

      Yes, true.

    • @TimpanistMoth_AyKayEll

      Basic mining only requires a pick (flint picks at first), but it extracts fewer resources from any one site compared to the more advanced mine-shaft version unlocked later.

    I think the way you speed through this game destroys the fun and immersion. It is good as a 'tips and tricks' video but massacring the wildlife to get more points is not how to play. I appreciate this is a tutorial series and I am learning a lot but hope people considering buying the game will understand it is not a race but a journey and the fun is in slowly building up your settlement and dealing with survival in order to flourish.

      It does seem as if Rhadamant sometimes becomes a bit impatient. He was saying it's not necessary to advance the age and that he'd likely want to hunt some animals before they go extinct. Then just a few minutes later: Nope screw that, lets push the "red" button.

    • @Jacob-fz5ho

      Hunter gatherers were extremely intelligent, their knowledge of the natural world was extremely detailed. Humans have been biologically identical for around 100,000 years, we had the same brains. They just didn't have the cultural build-up of knowledge and accumulated wealth.

    • @LTL_king

      They were smart for their time.
      They developed the language you use today. Could you develop a new language.
      Can you invent something that people will still use 100,000 years later.
      They built Stonehenge the pyramids before the invention of the wheel and 1000's of years later we can't figure how the carried the stone there.
      Look at what the Mayan's built. Long before the pyramids were built they built their own. They had a seasonal clocks built from stone that predicted the weather patterns just by the position of the shadow cast. That is can still be used today. They believe it is dated up to year 3000.
      People today are stupid. Cars have been around longer than many have been alive and yet they still can't park. They can't drive in a straight line. They don't know how to use common tools everyone should have around the house.
      They don't know how to fill their own gas check oil.
      Some people don't know how to change a light bulb.
      They call an electrician and tell them. Well I flipped the switch and there was a loud noise and now there's no light.
      $100 light bulb change.
      People today think they are smarter than everyone else and have to put others down to make themselves feel better for their own stupidity.
