I thought Samara's speech about slashers representing fears of the time was so great in retrospect considering how many of the kills in this film take place in public places or with plenty of people around - so true to the fears of today
@@apocalypsepow you haven't even seen the film yet, "I'm assuming" X is my favorite horror of all time lolz. I'm sure if she's talking this up, it will be quite good. Or very entertaining in the least. 😝
@@apocalypsepow I hope it is! I've heard it's darker and more violent and scary than the other films! I saw the first kill online because it was leaked and for me, it looks pretty dark. 💀🖤😭
Just came back and it was easily the scariest in the franchise. Might be because I'm going to college, living in a big city in a dorm, it just hit home how scary that would be. There is a particular scene involving a ladder that just had me shaking emotionally because it was so intense. I was SO happy with this movie and I hated the previous one, this felt like the perfect continuation and making it fresh again! Leaving Woodsboro (and Sidney) behind was the best decision for this franchise. I really didn't like the new characters in the previous one but "the core four" are my new favs!
Can we seriously appreciate Spyglass Media Group I mean not only did they made a massive comeback after a decade long hiatus, but they have made one of the best revivals of a long popular horror franchise in modern Hollywood I mean Halloween 2018 was good but the sequels ruined it and that franchise is currently in a coma. If I were Jason Blum I’d be a little scared of Spyglass and the Exorcist trilogy he is producing.
Hopefully he's taking notes from them and the reception of Halloween ends and makes improvements. He's doesn't seem like the cash grab person and a actual fan of the content he releases so I have hope at least for the exorcist because there's potential.
So glad to see such an enthusiastic review Grace! I do feel a little disappointed that they're using the most generic poster to market the movie when the others have been so creative.
Can someone please explain the fascination or excitement from Kirby? Why was she such a fan favorite? Love Hayden, but I wanna jump on the love train for her as well. I didn’t watch #5 but I just finished #6 and it was surprisingly so good. Nervous how it was gonna play out considering we heard Neve wasn’t going to be in it, but the cast did such a great job. Courtney’s scene with ghost face was one of my favorites. She was badass and love her fighting back. I love the core four. Such a good ending.
I believe Hayden has had a lot of personal issues and retired but this was her first gig back so hopefully she’s back to fighting form as an actress for S7.
Yeah I’ve just seen the film and I love Kirby but scream 4 but here she was lacking. It is like 12 years on and she has had a break and lot of personal issues which is evident on screen.
Great review, Grace. Credit to all the creatives involved here. The Scream renaissance is very similar to how the Fast and the Furious franchise revitalized itself and took a turn for the better creatively and financially. I really can't think of any other franchises than these two that have pulled off such an incredible comeback.
That was an interesting comment by Grace: the previous movies were all about Sidney and Gail and the other original survivors running from Ghostface. But now, Ghostface is the main character like Michael/Jason/Freddy. And they couldn’t have happened as an evolution with Sidney in this.
And honestly, I disagree with that take. The main character is Sam and the Core 4. With Gale and Kirby having fantastic secondary character roles that were extremely important to the plot.
I agree with you Grace about Kirby. Very upset because I’m rooting for Hayden in real life but this was not good. All her lines seemed wooden and rushed. It wasn’t coming across well. They needed to give her a big heroic moment. I think her best scene was with Mindy.
Loved it!!! Only thing i disagree with you on is Kirby! Always been a huge Kirby fan and enjoyed everytime she was on screen, i do think she didnt feel quite the same as Scream 4 but i think that was fully intended, she's 30 now, she's not a teenager anymore and has been through something horrible and came out the other side much tougher and trained her way up to the FBI, it felt like a natural maturity to her character over the past decade But over all such a good movie, do we think there will be a Scream 7??
same, i like how Kirby’s character has evolved. i liked the portrayal in Scream 4, but i expected a change… especially after very tragic events. the filmmakers and Hayden Penettiere say they only wanted to include the character if the story was right, so i trust her role is thoughtful and sincere
I want to see this one and I feel the same about Kirby. She should be different now. Having survived such a traumatic experience she isn’t the carefree teen she was in 2011. And I really loved Scream 4.
An on another note, Hayden most likely used her troubles of the past few years to fuel her performance here. But either way she is a damn good actress and I am happy to see her back in action. Need to watch 2022.
As a scream fan I was pleasantly surprised by how good this was. It was genuinely tense, and the kills were brutal. The Sam character was much better in this one, and I agree, this new ghost face seems way more intimidating and dangerous which I appreciated. I wish they did more with the film school element and I hated the killer Reveal tbh, but I'm excited to see them continue with the cast. I love the legacies but I agree the series suddenly feels fresh and unpredictable which is always better.
Ok Grace, because of this review I'm doing a Scream marathon to prepare for this movie😀🍿 I've only watched the first Scream and I really liked it. A reviewer JUST spelled out EXACTLY what happens in the opening scene. It was so ridiculous. I’ve read so many reviews that didn’t spell out the twisted opening, but a professional, certified “Top Critic” on Rotten Tomatoes.
I will be seeing it. I’m a huge fan of the original & Sydney Prescott. That being said, I don’t think any character in a horror series is more important that the killer. Not Jamie Lee Curtis’ Laurie Strode in the Halloween movies, not Tommy Jarvis in the Friday the 13th movies, etc. Freddy, Jason, Michael, Leatherface, etc are why I watch the movies. Ghostface is why I watch Scream. But unlike the others, Ghostface is never the same person, so each movie is a horror movie & a mystery. I’ll see them as long as long as they keep making them.
Actually enjoyed it. I think the train and bodega scene were really good. Love Jenna Ortega in this just as much as I loved her in the first. She conveys the emotions so damn well!!!
happy to hear you liked it! i guess from a business perspective i understand the comments about Neve Campbell but i really think she's content if the movies go on without her. not in a way where she looks down on the franchise, but just comfortable with the idea of it moving on without Sidney. it's realistic anyway! i don't think Neve is necessarily banking on the movie not doing well or anything either! what she did just seems like a personal decision and i'd hate for her to be pitted against this film/franchise when i do not believe that's where she stands herself
You kiddin? All of Neve's statements that I've seen are absolutely about being lowballed and undervalued. Fixing the pay-gap for an O.G. legacy actress like her, are negotiations that could benefit future actress' like Ortega in 30 years- but no, everyone's fine with Neve being cut out. It's terrible. She deserves respect.

See this development with ghost face kinda turns me off. I don’t want him to be like a jason, Freddy, or Michael type. Part of the fun of scream is the whodunnit aspect and that one of the principal characters is actually the killer hiding in plain sight.
In Radio Silence we horror fans trust. After Ready or Not and Scream (2022) I just knew this next installment would be good so im SO happy to hear that and can't wait to see it for myself
Also my opinion on Sidney. To me she is the ultimate Scream Queen. There is no better final girl. Scream 3/4 was peak Sidney Prescott. The series unfortunately does not need her character. I love Neve and I feel for her but as a character, Sidney NEEDS a happy ending. I don’t want her arc to end in death.
So basically radio silence did a good job with the stuff they created but again failed to respect anything that came before. Not surprising after what they did to Dewey. They just want to use the scream franchise to prop up their careers

Just got back from seeing the 5 and 6 double bill in the UK and I can safely say that S6 proves you CAN make a good Scream movie without Sidney Prescott. The franchise is in good hands folks.
Trying to go in spoiler free, so hyped for this film!! Praying for Anika to live, my queen!! Also, they should bring back Emma Roberts at some point, she's the best~ c:
So far my only issue with the reboot Scream movies is that the killer or killers is too obvious. I guessed correctly, just like I did in Scream 5. Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Scream 6 in my top 3 for sure and I agree, much more scary and I loved how violent this Ghostface was. Loved the mask here too.
Just finished Scream 6 & as a lifelong fan of the Ghostface Cult I can definitively say that this sequel was BADASS all the way until the unveiling which was honestly disappointing to me, but still a definite watch! 🔪 And the fear to kill characters for some reason made this better than 5, but worse than 4.
I’m not watching this until after I see the film. Despite Grace’s double checking for spoilers in non-spoiler reviews there’s always a hint at something that I wouldn’t have caught wind of had I not watched. 😂 Love you, Grace!
I was hesitant as I know how Grace is, but I have no self-control like she doesn’t lol don’t watch this til you see the film, she literally spoiled something before the 5 minute mark🤦🏻♂️ I’m not even done yet, she’ll probably spoil more. EDIT: called it! 7 minutes in, 2 spoilers already, arguably 3.
Oh, I was disappointed we didn't have Sid... I also could seriously tell that the original writer Kevin wasn't involved...maybe that's why Kirby didn't work here? I enjoyed Kirby but she was immediately sidelined for A3 which, IMO, was a mistake. AND this is probably the LEAST MEMORABLE Ghostface reveal...I was slightly disappointed Enjoyed the movie though...I agree with you - I ended up really enjoying Sam in this movie more than I did in 5
I want Neve Campbell to return in Scream 7 getting a pay check of at least 8 million (considered she got paid 4 million for 'Scream 3' way back in 2000). I mean... 'Scream 6' is predicted to open with 50 freaking million! A record for the franchise. They have the funds to pay her what she's worth.
But if it does so much money without her then the studio could easily go like: "See, don't need her." I really want her back but I'm not sure the studio is willing to pay her when they know that they don't really need her to be successful.
@@noirnoel she’s not worth that much anymore? What!? I get that these new films aren’t about Sidney anymore but it would still be nice to have her in them
Loved the film Grace! Didn’t care for the twist but still so solid and agree Sam was much better this time! Also, think she may be a better final girl than Sydney.
I’m so excited to see scream 6 tomorrow I’m seeing it in 3d and the 4dx and hearing that it’s the scariest in the franchise just gets me more excited can’t wait to scream tomorrow
I almost forgot this was also coming out this week 🙂. "65" is the priority to me, but...90 minutes plus credits...my confidence in that is dwindling by the minute 🙂...the two are lined up for a double-header, maybe I'll do that.
You should 1000% see both!! I don’t want you to miss out on ScreamVI it’s truly unique and brutal!! So many moments in the movie where being in a theater with a crowd just intensifies it… it’s my favorite movie in a long time
*SLIGHT SPOILER BELOW** I wish the killer was more charismatic. I hate how over the phone they’re so cunning and Charismatic but after they reveal they’re fucking baboons.

Emma is dead, got electrocuted to the head then shot in the chest
I am so excited for tomorrow, I can’t remember the last time I saw a horror movie in a theater.
This movie was made to see in a movie theater!! Moments are just intensified by the crowd and so many people were on the edge of their seat…
Coulda made it less obvious...the swerve didn't match up with the physical strength of the killer 🙂...
Excuse me, Ghost Face is becoming supernatural now? Oh heck no 😂
Beetlejuice 2 and Jenna as Lydia's daughter already was on Deadline.
I thought the regal on 14th st closed? Great Review of course. Best reviewer on youtube
Grace gonna Grace 🙄
@@HonkyDonkeyKingKongDingDong Hahaha, I KNEW IT! She’s been better recently about spoilers, but I still know what’s up!
I watched it! Absolutely loved the film
Oh, I was disappointed we didn't have Sid...
I also could seriously tell that the original writer Kevin wasn't involved...maybe that's why Kirby didn't work here? I enjoyed Kirby but she was immediately sidelined for A3 which, IMO, was a mistake.
AND this is probably the LEAST MEMORABLE Ghostface reveal...I was slightly disappointed
Enjoyed the movie though...I agree with you - I ended up really enjoying Sam in this movie more than I did in 5
In my movie theatre there was a lot of cheers for Kirby actually especially in the third act
I’m so happy with this movie. It seems like the ONLY people who didn’t like it were focused on Sidney being gone and went in not wanting to like it.
Sooo excited to see it this weekend!
I want Mason Gooding to play Disney’s Hercules! I talked about it in a recent vid
Sarah Michelle Gellar was not the opening scene in Scream 2, Jada Pinkett Smith was.
Honestly just watched a double feature and MAN this movie was good ❤️ really scary, nice deaths, creative storyline very much rate it!!
With Scream 6 they kind of prove she isn’t worth as much anymore. I would prioritize that money for special effects and other talent
@@noirnoel she’s not worth that much anymore? What!? I get that these new films aren’t about Sidney anymore but it would still be nice to have her in them
@@arielperez3613 I would say Jenna Ortega would deserve more than Sidney at this point. She needs the franchise more than they need her
I honestly loooved Kirby. But she deserved more lined. Nevertheless, I think she was used quite well.
Loved the film Grace! Didn’t care for the twist but still so solid and agree Sam was much better this time! Also, think she may be a better final girl than Sydney.
Just saw it and Sam was good but I don’t think she was better than Sidney or even her sister Tara
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY KILLED OFF SAMARA SO EARLY!
Melissa Barrera shut down all the haters 🤭 she had a great performance
I’m so excited to see scream 6 tomorrow I’m seeing it in 3d and the 4dx and hearing that it’s the scariest in the franchise just gets me more excited can’t wait to scream tomorrow
LOVED IT! BUT I did miss Neves hero scene tbh. YES successful in solidifying Ghostface as a Legacy killer. BUT NEVE FOR SCREAM SEVEN!
Don't tell me.. Beetlejuice 2 isnt aging up the actors.. THEY'RE RECASTING WINONA WITH JENNA? NOOO
Either that or Dracula.. but arent we literally getting Renfield AND a Nosferatu movie by Robert Eggers? Don't overvamp us Hollywood!
So many moments in the movie where being in a theater with a crowd just intensifies it… it’s my favorite movie in a long time
I WAS SAD THAT THEY KILLED OFF SAMARA IN THE BEGINNING!
I blocked all the scream words on twitter, i got it spoiled the day before i went to see scream 5 last year, I WILL NOT make the same mistake!
I’ve been very eagerly waiting for your review for this. I’m seeing it tomorrow! So excited!
Just left the movie theater.
Loved the first 2 acts…..the third act was so ridiculous.
Grace do you think it’s necessary to see every scream movie to fully enjoy? I’ve seen scream 1 and 5 but not sure if I should see the one with Kirby!
There are A LOT of references to ALL the other movies, so I'd highly recommend watching the ones you haven't seen.
Grace, as New Yorkers, You and I know how accurate the NYC setting is
Been keeping Twitter muted bc of your spoiler warning, seeing it tomorrow and i can’t wait!
Loved it. Very excited for what’s to come for the core 4
JENNA AND LIANA WERE GREAT IN THIS!
NOT A LOT OF KIRBY??????? SHE WAS THE REASON WHY I WANTED TO WATCH THIS MOVIE 😢😢😢
*SLIGHT SPOILER BELOW**
I wish the killer was more charismatic. I hate how over the phone they’re so cunning and Charismatic but after they reveal they’re fucking baboons.
Such a cool review! I have such an appreciation for your points of view and observations and I totally share in your thoughts about Sam Carpenter in this film. Also, Gale Weathers scene was epic! One of the best chase sequences ever.
When are you going to do your scream? Six spoiler review been waiting. Two weeks now.😅??
