The film was an outrageous joke; everyone was being stabbed multiple times in a critical area and then standing up as if nothing had happened. This should be a comedy movie, not a horror

Passable movie. I have some big issues though: 1 : Why didn't Ghostface finish Mindy off for good?? 2 : Chad surviving, no further explanation necessary. Just utter bullshit. There were booes in my theater when he was carried away. 3 : "I'm not like my father" just after brutally stabbing a guy multiple times in an over the top fashion. To top it off he gets the knife rammed into his fucking eye 4 : Kirby's devoted her life to Ghostface and his fandom yet couldn't find out that the killers and their dad were family with Ritchie?? 5: During the final confrontation between the police guy and Samantha, she holds a knife while he has a fucking GUN and is at a distance, so easy kill there right? No, when she runs towards him he doesn't shoot her, no, he also starts to run at her 😂😂😂😂
I feel like Chad’s survival is their attempts to make him the new Dewey. He survived getting the shank in 5, and now he survived getting double teamed by the killers in 6. Mirrors Dewey surviving the first and second movies.
@@Athena908they were probably totally trying to do that, but the fact that Chad got stabbed more in one attack than Dewey did In 25 years? 😂 too much lol and they say it’s too unbelievable that Dewey survived so long 😂😂
The idea of Billy Loomis just happening to knock some random girl up on the side is one of the most annoying retcons I've seen in a while. There's gotta be plenty of other ways they could have kept Billy semi-relevant to the series.
I don't even care about that it seems pointless but whatever. The ghost of Billy tho is horrible. Let's say 1 killer from 5 was related to Stu & the reason he wanted to go after her was because his family was destroyed & gets all the praise/credit as the mastermind while Stu is portrayed as a dolt. Maybe you have something there
You're surprised a serial killer that killed and gr*aped his girlfriend's mother... was faithful the entire time? Mind you, same girlfriend didn't give him any sex for that entire year, and you think it is unbelievable for someone like him to cheat on Sidney and get a girl pregnant? Reeeeeeeeeeally? XD
This! Hate Sam’s “origin” and really can’t get past how soap opera-like it is. He was a teenager, was murdering folks and also trying to endure Sidney to him. How did he have time to knock some girl up? They could have had Sam be his illegitimate half sister or something and kept the plot line intact.
@Michael Mullins How did he have time in the year-long time frame he had after he and Stu graped and killed her mother? You think he had zero time within the full span of an entire year to cheat on an emotionally and physically distant girlfriend?
isn't there a kind of irony that in the fact that in an era where every show seems to do blatant meta commentary to the point where it's grating and annoying the one movie who's entire premise is a horror movie designed to be a meta commentary of horror movies doesn't do any real meta commentary?
It does social commentary but, like you said, so does every new show nowadays, even ones targeted toward children. I really loved the first Scream but it helped open the door to all the woke lecturing being inserted into everything. The first film stuck to horror conventions but the second film had a tiny dash of social commentary with Micky's motivation and the third offered up a commentary on the predatory nature of Hollywood. The fourth film was a critique on celebrity culture and Hollywood. Interesting that no one even notices the meta any more, particularly now that it's gone woke by turning on the fan base.
THIS!.. Indeed, horros have changed a lot during last ten years. There are not so many slashers now. I mean, look at Midsommar! And?.. Not a single allusion.
The thing that ruined the movie for me were the fake deaths, like Kirby's , Mindy's or Chad's. It feels like they're scared to kill off main characters. Reminds me of Stranger Things where they don't have the balls to kill off Max or Hopper and always just get rid of new characters.
Exactly just like Halloween, Friday the 13th and nightmare on elm Street and even chucky, like they just need to leave the old legacy alone and create a new killer like the Saw movies did, they just need to stop these soft reboots or even sequels.
Scream ended with the 4th movie in my opinion. I loved 4 and thought 5 was a forgettable bad joke. Like ending 4 with a clever take on remakes was funny. Trying to do a take on concepts like revivals or “elevated horror” (like midsommer or get out… ) uh yeah, no thanks it’s a needless concept to parody.
Scream 4 is actually my fave next to the original.... Just love the opening scene. People in a movie watching a stab movie within a stab movie within another stab movie.
They do have to start over since Jenna Ortega quit and Melissa Berrera got fired. Thank goodness too. The Carpenter sisters are definitely the WORST part of these two awful movies.
Wait....so you are one of those "prequel haters"??? Revenge of the Sith is my favorite Star Wars along with Empire Strikes Back. I hate the Sequels though! Those are awful!!! But.....Scream 4 was written by Kevin Williamson and Directed by Wes Craven so that is Canon too and a decent film.
I was waiting for you to give your take, I agree with you a lot more on this one. The worst thing for me was Kirby and Mindy saying Jordan Peele's Candyman (2021) was equal to the original Candyman (1992). Unforgiveable.
@@LivingLikeLarry12 You're right, but I view it as his because he was the biggest influence. It's his production company, he co-wrote the first draft, he chose the director etc... I think he had a much bigger role in the story than the rookie director.

It should’ve stopped at Scream 4. Sam’s character is just so cringe to me. Her whole storyline of being Billy’s daughter is so ridiculous. Not a big fan of her acting either :/
@@NobleBosswhat problems? It’s not perfect but at least it doesn’t disrespect the main characters from the past, Dewey and Gale are married, Sidney is rich and successful but full of heart like always, and they get hurt but actually earn their survival Aside from a few moments of cringe, it did what it set out to do….make people care and keep the original respectful while being interesting with new generations with interesting kills by Ghostface
They should have just stopped after the 4th movie, has Sydney Prescott herself said in that one in regards to remakes and reboots, "Don't FUCK with the original"
@@coffeebean_tamer 4 is just as bad as the two new movies . Turned Sidney into a damsel in distress and has 5 ft Jill overpower her. What a joke. I'll stick to the original trilogy.

@@coffeebean_tamer Scream 3 was underrated. And the final movie of a trilogy is never as good as the original. It was good enough to call it a day. Sidney had her character arc (left the door open, found love with Kincaid), Dewey and Gale get married, and the two most important secondary characters that survived the original (Randy & Cotton) are killed off in 2 or 3. It was a great place to end. Scream will always be remembered as a 90's series, so capping it off in the year 2000 was the way to go. Scream 4 stands alone, awkwardly placed 11 years after Scream 3 and 11 years before Scream 5. Dewey, Sid and Gale are in this awkward early 40's stage where they're not quite young and naive anymore, but also not the grizzled veterans of Scream 5 just yet. Scream 5 and 6 just totally go off the rails -- 5 had a few redeeming moments (Dewey's send off, Judy & Wes' death, Billy's cameo), but 6 was a total abomination and irredeemable.
I like that they weren't afraid to kill off the fan favorite or the characters played by the famous actors. Definitely something the new writers would never have the guts to do.
@@missright710 I think they only did that cause they were pretty sure the series wasn't going to be as successful as it was. They should just bring in his "twin" and see how people react, then kill him in the next movie as a GOTCHA
The original Scream trilogy is my favorite despite how weak the 3rd film ended up being, though I still enjoy that installment. Scream 4 said ALL that needed to be said about Originals vs. Remakes, and that it was Wes Craven's last Scream film, there is NO more Scream in my opinion. The fact that it's continuing without Wes Craven and there is this clear agenda of attacking fans who hate Rian Johnson style SH*T storytelling, this continuation of the franchise is utter TRASH.
The ending was incredibly ridiculous as so many characters suffered mortals wounds to only be good as new moments later. For example Dewey was stabbed in the back in the first film and was instantly immobilized but Tara gets stabbed in the back and stomach and she just rubbed some dirt on it lol. I'm not one to nitpick the realism in movies as they take certain liberties but this was just cartoonish.
Bit late to answer this, but also don't forget Tara also getting shot then jumping at one of the killers and a few minutes later getting stabbed (like all the way to the end of the blade) to get him, then a few minutes later they are just talking like she shouldn't be dying from severe blood loss
@r_sketchum6365 What was really strange was that movie really wasn't bad until all these characters would get fatally injured and then be fine the next moment. The movie played it safe like nothing I'd ever had seen before. I don't know how any of these movies can be tense if they're not even remotely realistic.
After Sam gets the jump on the last of the ghost faces, she should've taken off her mission impossible mask and revealed herself to actually be...Rian Johnson himself. He then goes for the kill shot but not before saying to ghost face "Subverted yet b*tch?".
Scream 4 was a good ending to the franchise as it makes the point that you can't successfully reboot the franchise with new actors replacing the old characters. However, with 5 on, that's exactly what's they are doing.
I was a huge defender of Scream 5, especially in regards to your take on it last year. I remember typing out an entire essay on my disagreements. Here, I don't have as much to say. Scream 6 is a much more entertaining movie & makes more sense than Scream 5, but what made me really upset was the lack of stakes in the movie. I wasn't worried about any of the characters dying with the exception of Gale, & as it turns out, everyone of importance lives, which was a HUGE letdown since we technically have FIVE KILLERS in the movie. What a huge wasted opportunity to do something amazing with the franchise as oppose to just the same rinse & repeat structure with every killer in this franchise. It's very aggravating to see a movie with so much potential that can't commit to any concept outside of the norms of the Scream franchise. They hype up the stakes where "anyone can die", yet nobody of importance dies. It was very disappointing in that regard. There's also a huge void in the film left by Sidney & Dewey, which is understandable given the circumstances, but I'm no happy about it. I had a better time than I did with Scream 5, but not by much.
Scream 6 was dumb. A knockoff of Scream 2. Once again we got a young female killer who inexplicably is super strong. The dumbest part was how all the evidence from the events of the previous Scream movies went missing without question. The directors are clueless about chain of custody
Gale's new man getting overpowered and killed was easily one of the dumbest parts of the movie, if not the dumbest, especially when you see who the killers were. It would have taken at least two of the three of them to get that dude. That really pulled me out of it. Kirby is made into a really weird character in this movie, like some dork's fantasy about growing up and sticking it to the bullies or the bad guys or whatever. She's still quite likeable and acted really well, but the whole FBI agent nonsense just felt so cringe. Definitely more returning characters needed to get killed off, but I'd say Jenna Ortega is probably the only one who should be safe at this point because she is a good actress, way better than the other new characters. The Billy Loomis stuff was horrible and nonsensical. There were way too many fake out deaths. Chad should have been dead. For me, this movie was entertaining in the theater, but definitely not as good as the first four movies. I never bothered to watch 5, so that's probably worse, but at least this is watchable. There were plenty of missed opportunities here, and it definitely copies 4 too much. I would rather just go back, and watch Scream 4 because it's actually a very good horror movie than watch this one be a mediocre copy. The killers being internet trolls was super cringe. Wes Craven wouldn't have done some stupid BS like that. There were some cool sequences and aspects to it, and the overall visuals of it were really well done. It was interesting to see the true killer dispatch of a couple of wannabes, but I honestly think that the movie being based around those college dudes would have been more interesting than who the killers ended up being. It also would've been interesting if there had been competing killers for longer, or if we had just known who one of the killers was because he would get betrayed, just to add a different perspective for this movie. They wasted a lot of potential with that idea by executing it the way they did. I'd say it's a 5.5 outta 10.
That's what I was thinking too because the guy was just a little geeky dude like come on They make it worthy's killers literally have super strength And you're going to tell me it was the little tiny 5' 2 female that killed the Big dude come on get the f*** out of here Just like the last one it was the little tiny female that overpowered the men And you clearly see its guise underneath these costumes down a short little girl😂😂😂
@@juggalogamer8541 Agreed I enjoyed the scream movie where there was just one killer and he was an actual threat, 😂 made it a lot scarier, takes away from the horror when their are multiple killers tbh and and for god sake make scream strong and scary for once.

I liked it better than 5 too, but I just hate that no one important died, the motive was WAYYYY too meta, and everyone seems to have a healing factor zzzz
I think my main disagreement is how Gale discusses her peers being murdered, i think that criticism ignores what Gale is as a character. She has always seen the ghostface killings as a joke and mere cash grabs, if any character was to say that line and be desensitized i believe that Gale would as she was said to have made jokes and ill timed comments during her books. Especially being she has went threw this now 6 times
It was not good. They’re really pushing “Billy’s magical out of the blue when did he have her” daughter down our throats. Forcing that connection that fans have to Sidney since we watched her grow. The character development…there was none. It was a lot of explaining who everyone is instead of the relationships/connections organically forming. The actors had zero chemistry.
That ladder scene was so dumb, as you said. Hold on tight and have your friends yank it from Ghostface. I'm currently watching it and about to turn it off. Every scene has me shaking my head. I can't wait for the agenda based era of movie making ends.
My wife is a massive scream fan. It's her favorite series and I was kinda surprised that she actually loved this movie. It had some cool scenes I wouldn't say it's my fav though. 1 and 4 are better.
I never watched any of those movies. My brother wanted to see it, so we saw it. I was internally dismissive of the movie, and didn't think it would be worthwhile at all, but I actually found it to be quite enjoyable...
3 had some seriously creepy moments with Sid dealing with nightmares of her mom. I also liked it being set in Hollywood. Parker Posey was also fantastic in it. But Williamson didn’t write it and it’s painfully obvious. It’s also one of the worst killer ideas in the series. 4 was a step up from 3 but still a step down from 1 and 2. 5 and 6 are the worst in the series. I absolutely hated both of them lol
This movie made me face-palm so hard. These films are kind of a hate watch for me at this point considering I'm mildly entertained during them, but always end up hating certain choices in these sequels. I agree with most the stuff you said but I think my main gripe is the predictability of the ending and the stale formula of these movies endings. The killers were painfully obvious (more so than any other movie) and the whole climax was by the numbers af. I wanted this film to really try something new like the opening of the film suggested it was going to do, but no. None of the new characters die, there's hardly any new developments, and the ending is the same shit we've seen for 6 bloody movies! If they make a third one for these new Screams you probably could watch 5 and skip right to 7. This one was the biggest nothing burger of a scream movie yet.
Your points about "girl boss violence" is so spot on. It was so cringe to watch those scenes because it was so obvious that Hollywood was pushing the girl boss angle. Scream 1-4 managed to make Sidney the BEST girl boss without having to force the narrative down our throat.
These films are dead, the soul of the films are gone and the new plot is garbage. Sometimes the studio has to let a franchise die without milking every last cent out of it.
If they wanted to make a REAL Scream movie, they would have offed Jenna Ortega in the first 15 minutes of Scream 5. The Carpenter sisters are annoying and the Billy ghost business is awful. The best thing about these two movies is knowing there won't be another with those two AWFUL characters!
Scream hasn't made a good movie since the year 2000. And yes, in 2000, it was Scream 3. Yes I said it. 3 was underrated. And the final movie of a trilogy is never as good as the original. People's expectations were too high. But it was good enough to call it a day. Sidney had her character arc (she left the back door open, found love with Kincaid), Dewey and Gale get engaged, and the two most important secondary characters that survived the original (Randy & Cotton) are killed off in 2 or 3. It was a great place to end. Scream will always be remembered as a 90's series, so capping it off in the year 2000 was the way to go. Scream 4 stands alone, awkwardly placed 11 years after Scream 3 and 11 years before Scream 5. Dewey, Sid and Gale are in this awkward early 40's stage where they're not quite young, innocent and naive anymore, but also not the grizzled 50 year old veterans of Scream 5 just yet. Scream 5 and 6 just totally go off the rails -- 5 had a few redeeming moments (I liked Dewey's send off, Judy & Wes' death, Billy's cameo), but 6 was a total abomination and irredeemable. No guts with who they were willing to kill off (NO WAY all four main characters should survive), and it went woke past the point of no return. You can now guess the killers 20 minutes into the movie by taking notice of who is A. New and B. Whyyte. The movie plays it as safe as possible and takes the Whodunnit AND the "anyone but Sidney can die" element out of it. It's nothing but sociologist propaganda at this point.
Actually... The knife scream guy uses was common and popular long before Scream in 1996. I have one, they're called a Buck knife, they're literally for gutting animals, specifically Deer. And they're still one of the best gutting knives, the thickness of the blade is very useful in cracking the breast plate of a deer. So, that's Why they used it in 1996 Scream, it was a very common use American deer gutting knife.
@FreeOpenTruth mhmm. And I'm not quick with mine, I'm quite messy lol. But old timers who schooled me in hunting, gutting and butchering, geez they can just unzip a deer, clear it out and done. Now, I've no idea how a human differs, but with deer, the Buck Knife is still the best imo. It's why in 96 they didn't use the common kitchen butcher knife that Norman Bates or Michael Myers primaries. Scream, it's the Buck Knife, the classic American made deer gutting knife.
My biggest issue with this movie was at the end when Sam kills Wayne Bailey, she doesn't call 911 or go check on Kirby... I was thinking WTF are you going to call for help for chad and Kirby?? It took away from what was a good scene when here and tara are talking A simple fix would've been kirby on the phone 30-40 ft away (clearly calling for help and medical assistance) as sam is walking up to tara, they acknowledge each other with a head nod and that fixes that. just some very silly plot holes.
Also, Ethan's character was poorly written when he was revealed he should've been much more calm and sinister, and a little angry.. Makes his character feel more realistic and their motive feel more realistic. Quinn's psychoness came off more natural. Him being a stone cold stone faced killer post reveal would've been a GREAT counter balance to Quinn and Wayne.
Also, Jack Champion I don't think is a great actor by any means but he actually elevated his poorly written character pretty well. He was entertaining post reveal thanks to his acting. Ethan was just SO poorly written.. Also, there was essentially only one red herring in the group after Anika died half way thru.
What i find funny about scream 4's description of stab 5 is that scream 5 is indeed by far the worst and retcons the timeline in a very stupid way with the whole "daughter of billy" thing.
i love the fact that these moronic writers forget to mention how Rian Johnson actively shitted on Star Wars and the fans well before the movie came out and after but they wanna act like Rian didn't stoke the fire and is a innocent man lmfao gotta love this generation of not taking responsibility
I liked Scream 6 in terms of everything that happened in the plot OTHER than the unbelievable excuse for the Killer/s motivation. These movies require a suspension of disbelief obviously but it was such a cliched soap opera-esq explanation. Oh and Gales character is butchered when you compare her to Scream 5. Both movies I like and both did somethings better than the other.
Suspension if disbelief is 1 thing. But even Scream 2 which this is a rip off of had the sense to not have Sidney Prescott see Billy's mom. But this 1 requires you to believe Sam can't recognize her BF's father, sister, & brother
@@ActualJusticeWarrior My thoughts exactly when they had the reveal. Only way they can really address this is with a throw away line in Scream 7 of the main chick (can’t remember her name) saying she never met his family or some bs like that.
I never thought of it as a "killer gene" more a borderline psychotic break after finding out her real father was a serial killer. It's not really a new concept either. It was done in criminal minds after a guy found out his father was a serial killer and after years of trying to figure out who he was and learning this, he began to follow in his father's footsteps. So that angle with Sam is fine for me. The member berries didn't hit much for me since I watched scream 1-4 for the first time after seeing 6. I also didn't see it as a defense of rian Johnson either. Mindy: " remember the stab movie that came out last year?" Liv: "oh, yeah the one the knives out guy directed right? You know I actually really liked that one." Mindy: "of course you did, you have terrible taste." That doesn't sound like a defense of johnson.
@@zacharysaleh1352 I'm thinking he is viewing it through an anti-SJW lense. Sam's non expression most of the time comes off like she is on the borderline of a psychotic break. The whole (I'm not my father but everyone says I am issue) then the psychiatrist in 6 with the mention of I killed someone in self defense and I'm scared because I liked it. That's interesting to me personally and i would like them to lean more into it. Oh and the museum part i didn't take that as Richie went broke buying the stuff. I figured the cop was in on it because that stuff should've been locked up with evidence and who could get access to that evidence? A cop. I assumed he stole them for his son. I'll have to watch it again to see if it was mentioned in dialogue. The problem with the core 4 is they have very few new characters so the suspect pool is smaller because you automatically rule out 4 if a legacy character shows up they are ruled out as a suspect and you're just trying to figure out if they will be a victim. So you're stuck with cop, quinn, Ethan, and boyfriend and suspects. Mindy's gf was ruled out pretty early because she died and only has herself to blame. Like bitch, you are severely injured, your ass goes across the ladder first because you will be slower. The family namely the dad being pissed made sense it seemed like he was upset his son died however it was the overkill which is what made him want revenge. 22 stabs, slit throat, and sean forgot the bullet in the head to top it off. Aside from the there were plot holes, characters that should've died and not dying. Rehash of a family member of the previous movies killer being the killer. And not leaning into Sam's confliction by her not keeping the mask. Side note: best Ghost Face reveal so far is Scary Movie 1
@@bondagedangel I did have have some problems with some parts of the movie too, but not for the same reasons Sean did. This movie is about conspiracy theories, and I feel like they should have done something with that. I do agree with you about the lack of character deaths, especially Chad, because I feel like he was robbed of a badass death. And I feel like Ethan shouldn’t have been related to the Bailey’s, he should have been just a plain psycho like Mickey or Stu, his motive should have been him being a true crime fanatic, that’s actually what I thought before seeing the film.
@@zacharysaleh1352 the family believing the conspiracies would've been good I like that and if Ethan wasn't a family member and just a true crime fan, with the dad being a cop tou can easily write in how he could be roped in by trying to solve crimes, asking about them, interviewing because of his passion. How does the family transfer and change their names, the dad passing a background check?
What I didn’t understand is how caught up Billy was in finally getting to bang Sidney in scream one and scream five just retcons all that and says that he was actually banging someone else on the side and had a kid with her… Totally stupid
Sam is totally stupid. Billy cheating on Sidney is preposterous. What idiot plans on killing their girlfriend and goes out and jeopardize that by cheating on her in a town where everyone knew that Sidney's mom was sleeping around. she was better in 5, it’s like she’s scared to commit and immerse herself into a character with so much potential being the child of a deranged serial killer, she should be giving a better performance but she’s acting like a brand new unseasoned actress intimidated by the role.

Scream 6 is my least favorite Scream movie by a long shot. Where the last movie stumbled upon feeling like a scream movie due to the entire production revolving around member berries, this movie feels like a generic slasher like Halloween or F13 and it’s putrid to me. Not that they are problems, I love a good Halloween movie and Jason take Manhattan is one of the funniest experiences one can have watching a movie. But Scream has never been about the kills, the gore, or cultural commentary. Scream revolves around the simple concept of “a slasher but realistic” which natural inclines it to comment on the horror industry. Wes Craven took realism very personally: learning how knifes cut/pierce, how fatal blows were developed, how wounds healed and impacted the victim, how police did their job, how media exploited situations, how trauma manifested in victims, etc. Scream VI focuses so much on the gore and to be a slasher, it doesn’t understand how scream differs from other slashers and sees the entire genre in a shallow way. Ghost face was a Halloween store costume that was free flowing for mobility, the killers had to find a way to hide their voices, they had to be methodical for the slasher movie stalking trope to work, the Psycho trope had to be redefined as “bad person bad cuz bad” couldn’t cut it like it does for a movie like Nightmare on Elm Street, moments didn’t revolve around obviously stupid survivor decisions but the killer planning around what the victim would most likely do. Scream is defined by realism and this movie spits on that concept! Like, in a world with a mass copycat killer problem, where the hell is witness protection? What the hell kinda pull does the father have in the police department to not only tamper with a cadaver but take the body from the morgue and plant it on a crime scene? How much does adrenaline really affect the body and is it enough to face multiple fatal stab wounds and still fight like mike Tyson like Jenna Ortega’s character does at the end or obligatory Asian lesbian does earlier in the film? Why the hell does Sam feel safer around knives than owning a gun? she has no reason to feel that way as the knives constantly give into tendencies she is trying to combat and are connected to a PSTD experience she is constantly trying to avoid happening again. They are things you suspend to enjoy slasher like F13 movies, but you shouldn’t need to for Scream. This movie is big garbo.
I'm actually glad about what you said regarding how they handled the minority characters. I was always hesitant to say it online myself because I didn't want to come across as racist, but you definitely put it fairly. Like you said, the problem is that it makes the killers too obvious, as well as lower the stakes for the core four since I know they aren't gonna die. Surprised you're the first person I've seen to bring this up.
Is it really a race thing? It didn’t seem like it was when I’ve seen it, Minority main characters~Woke discussion I guess lol. Would’ve been cool if the female twin was the killer but I’m guessing one of them will die in 7
@7:11 Also just like the last one, the killer of a big guy was a scrawny female who can throw the man 10 feet through a wall. It had to be Quinn, the Ethan and their father were both in Central Park with the rest of the cast minus Gail. Anyways, Sam needs to be the killer in the next one, it'll be a fine twist, though would have worked better for this one.
Literally agree with EVERYTHING. I don’t understand how so many people are praising this movie. There so much more wrong than right. It’s “ok” At best.
BUT, BUT BLEEDING COOL SAID IT WAS A PERFECT 10/10 FILM!!!! But seriously...it's really middle of the road. It's not as bad as 3, don't get me wrong, and it had some cool moments in isolation, but it's kind of just ok. Better than expected but not good. The Nev situation also sucks and leaves me feeling bitter to be honest.
Not to mention that this is a throw back to Sidney who in the original Scream worried she could go bad like Maureen. She says that to Billy, that she is afraid of the bad seed. But she chooses against ist and so does Sam.
I've never seen a single movie from this franchise. With the way Hollywood operates, it's only a matter of time before they decide to "improve" the originals and memory hole the original cuts. Thus, I might never watch them.
My largest criticism of this movie was how much they cop from scream 2. And they also call out how similar this is to scream 2 to which I say, calling out how similar the new movies are to the older movies doesn’t make the fact that you’re copying them okay.
9:55 Yes. Yes! YES! 100 percent yes. I agree completely. Why you'd replace fan favorite, Sidney? I don't know. Why you'd also, on top of that, get an actress who can't act to play the lead in your film? I don't know.
lmao she didn't sign on because they couldn't agree on her paycheck. This whole comment section hating on the movie for the most random shit - most of these guys don't know what they're talking about 🤣🤣
what made Scream a good killer movie was that it mocked itself seriously. it broke the 4th wall, without breaking the 4th wall. but every single one after that was a money grab.
this actually reminds me of the latest film from the "jurassic park" series. almost no one dies. I think the only one who died was the evil owner of the facility.
Great review, AJW. Like I said on your review of Scream 5 last year....... Scream was one of the first horror slasher series I came to love and the fact this was done without Wes Craven directing and Kevin Williamson overseeing the story should have been massive red flags. Wes Craven's direction along with Kevin Williamson's plotting were what made the series great. Without them this series is NOTHING. Stick with Scream (1996), Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), & Scream 4 (2011) and avoid both the stupidity of 5 and 6.
Scream 3 and 4 were also pretty stupid. 5 and 6 level of stupidity? Nah. But Ehren Kruger did take a huge shit on the series and that was more than 20 years ago lol
I couldn't apply the "a minority can not be the killer" rule to Scream 5 because Amber appeared asian to me ... But it still kind of fits because asians are the next most "villifiable" race after whites.
You're first 3 points don't make much sense so decided to skip the rest. 1 - ghost face wasn't trying to throw the ladder down cause he knew they'd try to hold onto it with her possibly hanging on, he was wiggling the ladder back and forth until the other side lost strength to grip it. 2 - store owners have guns they're not going to advertise even if in NY. I don't know in what high class area you grew up in but in real life you have to protect yourself And your property. You say you're from NY but again gun owners aren't going to go advertising it especially since you said it's not easy to get one. 3 - how did you know it's 9 at night and not say 5 where the sun just went down? Was there a clock you were looking for that everyone else missed?
This franchise has 1.5 good movies out of 6. It was a great idea that didn't need any more sequels and was immediately ran into the ground. But somehow if found even new lows after a decent soft-reboot and now the motivation for the killers is literally the writers being butthurt you didn't like their friend's movie
When I saw that shotgun in the trailer the first thing I thought was "prepare to go to prison for a long time buddy". Also, if you want to stab someone on a subway in modern day NY, there's really no reason to do it in costume in an elaborate set piece... just stab them in front of everyone in broad daylight. Happens all the time.
i was so pissed with scream 5. i got about an hour or so in and i got this sinking feeling that they're gonna attack the fans. and sure enough... the killer turned out to be a film-nut who doesn't like the way ESG hollywood is handling movies and franchises in 2023. AKA ''Right Wing Trolls(TM)''. i felt it coming and it came. i don't know why i even bothered watching 6 after that. but you know how it goes... ''just consume product and get excited for next product''
Wat makes no sense to me bout the scream series is why these killers always choose ghostface or somehow connected to the og characters or the new young ones...my god they really are out of ideas
I knew it wasn't going to be great from the moment it was announced. They made it in less than a year. Absolutely ridiculous. No thought or effort put into it whatsoever. Just a money cow. But the film was okay... the killers tho and the motive was pure trash
Jill was doing the soft reboot including the passing the torch to her. Legacy characters returning & all of that. The fact that the movie was also smart enough to talk about viral fame as well is to its credit. Scream 5 is just the studio straight up doing a soft reboot with cringe member berries & defending Rian Johnson from people who didn't like The Last Jedi. It brought nothing new to the table or anything clever
@@ActualJusticeWarrior I agree. I hated both Scream 5 & 6. The Carpenter sisters have a horrible dynamic and the Billy ghost business is cringe. The best thing to happen to Scream is having Melissa Barrera get canned for her antisemitism and Jenna Ortega quitting. If they make another, at least those two won't be in it. Personally, I knew they blew it by not offing Jenna Ortega in the first 15 minutes of Scream 5.
I don’t like seeing violence, and I always look away at the gory scenes, but I love Scream. What I love are the thrills, the suspense, mystery and clever plots. The whodunnit aspect is great and reminds me of And Then There Were None. The best was the original, followed by #2 and #4. I didn’t like how 6 had little of the fun silliness that was in the earlier films.
People saying it’s great Can’t give any elaboration as to why. From every aspect it’s in the bottom 2 and I can’t even say it’s subjective Literally the only response I’ve received is “you’re crazy, the ladder scene was amazing” Regarding 7:40 this is my problem with Sid. She came off more more desensitized every movie to the point she was a bad ass but void of empathy Made it hard for me to cheer for. Also Yeah I love how Brooks cowardly hands Gale the phone only to be subdued and rag dolled by who turned out to be Quinn Lastly I hope you cover the hilarious notion of a shotgun being behind the counter as a normal thing in NY😂 The shop owner would have been arrested in seconds. Are they in NY or Texas?
The ladder scene was cool but the kills in this movie were among the least interesting stabs in the gut for all. Also I think the motive in 5 should've been them trying to create a direct sequel to 1st one. The way that many of these horror movies try to disregard their sequels years later
The first Scream movie was okay, I guess. But then they kept making more of them, and ever since that franchise has gone into the toilet. Same with John Wick, same with Fast & Furious. It's the same damn movie, repeated Ad nauseam over and over again
Sorry firend but thw first one is great, the second has its moments especially with its stance on violence in media, the 3rd was alright, and the fourth one shouldve been the last one it predicted reboots and softreboots messing around with the originals. I havent seen the last two yet but they might be good idk
EVERYONE judges this movie based off the kills. In fact it kinda reminds me of Halloween Kills and how bad it was yet everyone ignored that because "THE KILLS MAN!!!!" Like i get it but the kills are such a small part of the movie, what about the terrible writing, terrible characters, terrible killers and motives.... but yeah "gHosTfAcE wAs bRuTal".
The weird thing about Jenna Ortega (IDK the character's name and never will) is that she just wanted to hookup with a cute boy... there is nothing wrong with that. It was a very mixed and muddled message. If they wanted to make frat boy look like a D-bag, they should have had him dragging Jenna to his room, and Jenna too Drunk to even stand up, and saying no, or him looking out for her friends. What happened is that she was enthusiastic about wanting to "grab drinks" with him, and insisted her friends leave them alone.
Hearing how the last two Scream movies went I'm glad I didn't keep up with the franchise. The fact that they are catering to Hollywood elites and are willing to insult long time audiences that are the lifeblood of franchises like their own is unforgivable!
Love how literally no one bleeds out or dies from multiple stab wounds in this film.
Dude I just finished watching it and I was so confused like wait did no one actually die? Except literally a few background characters?
The film was an outrageous joke; everyone was being stabbed multiple times in a critical area and then standing up as if nothing had happened. This should be a comedy movie, not a horror

It secretly was Scary Movie 6. Plot twist..
I personally loved how pretty much all the main cast survived despite each being stabbed repeatedly in the chest and abdomen.

2 : Chad surviving, no further explanation necessary. Just utter bullshit. There were booes in my theater when he was carried away.
3 : "I'm not like my father" just after brutally stabbing a guy multiple times in an over the top fashion. To top it off he gets the knife rammed into his fucking eye

I hate how they just remembered just Billy and not the other one that made the first scream sooo perfect with 2 killers
isn't there a kind of irony that in the fact that in an era where every show seems to do blatant meta commentary to the point where it's grating and annoying the one movie who's entire premise is a horror movie designed to be a meta commentary of horror movies doesn't do any real meta commentary?
It does social commentary but, like you said, so does every new show nowadays, even ones targeted toward children. I really loved the first Scream but it helped open the door to all the woke lecturing being inserted into everything. The first film stuck to horror conventions but the second film had a tiny dash of social commentary with Micky's motivation and the third offered up a commentary on the predatory nature of Hollywood. The fourth film was a critique on celebrity culture and Hollywood. Interesting that no one even notices the meta any more, particularly now that it's gone woke by turning on the fan base.
Mindy had an entire commentary on the subject. Even told her own girlfriend "never trust the love interest"
@burbonite4life wow so original
This move went over your head.Mad meta parts
I blame the continuation of Scream past 4 on Halloween 2018. These legacy sequels are out of hand.
Nah I liked Halloween 2018, it was Kills and Ends that shouldn’t have existed.
Exactly just like Halloween, Friday the 13th and nightmare on elm Street and even chucky, like they just need to leave the old legacy alone and create a new killer like the Saw movies did, they just need to stop these soft reboots or even sequels.
@Zachary Saleh I got peanut butter on my penis
Yeah especially halloween they only followed the 1st movie and they change the ending of the movie in the beginning of the new movie.
Why was Gale living in NY?
Scream ended with the 4th movie in my opinion. I loved 4 and thought 5 was a forgettable bad joke. Like ending 4 with a clever take on remakes was funny. Trying to do a take on concepts like revivals or “elevated horror” (like midsommer or get out… ) uh yeah, no thanks it’s a needless concept to parody.

The worst thing for me was Kirby and Mindy saying Jordan Peele's Candyman (2021) was equal to the original Candyman (1992). Unforgiveable.
Candyman(2021) wasn’t directed by JP he was just an executive producer
Jordan Peele's Candyman (I know he didn't direct it but it has enough of his influence to qualify) was the worst of the movies.
@@LivingLikeLarry12 You're right, but I view it as his because he was the biggest influence. It's his production company, he co-wrote the first draft, he chose the director etc... I think he had a much bigger role in the story than the rookie director.

@@NobleBossyou could call it her being blindsided by her niece but still, I’ll take that over 5 and 6 blatantly disrespecting the characters of the past
@coffeebean_tamer Ironically, the 4th is my favorite sequel in the series
You know, they fucked up killing Randy in 2
They have been trying to replace him since
Yep
He should've died, but not in the second movie
"What went wrong?" Well...the lack of intelligence in creating new and interesting movies is Number 1.
😂😂😂😂😂

That's what I was thinking no way these short small femals r over powering these men come on 😂
Except in 2 made sense because billy's mom said mickey did all the muscle work. Something they would never even dare to imply in this new movies.

I disagree. Scream 6 didn't miss the whole point so much as catapult itself past the whole point and landed in a pile of a hay bails out of bounds.
¿?
🤷♀️
Uh yeah. The reason was because in Scream 1 Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) was gutted and hung from a tree in the first 10 minutes.
It took away from what was a good scene when here and tara are talking
A simple fix would've been kirby on the phone 30-40 ft away (clearly calling for help and medical assistance) as sam is walking up to tara, they acknowledge each other with a head nod and that fixes that.
just some very silly plot holes.
Also, Ethan's character was poorly written
when he was revealed he should've been much more calm and sinister, and a little angry..
I really thought Kirby was the killer considering she disappeared in s4 and then was unstable working for the FBI.
What i find funny about scream 4's description of stab 5 is that scream 5 is indeed by far the worst and retcons the timeline in a very stupid way with the whole "daughter of billy" thing.
"It's Screamin' time!" - Ghostface
i thought in the scream movies some of the cast is supposed to die apparently not in this one.
i love the fact that these moronic writers forget to mention how Rian Johnson actively shitted on Star Wars and the fans well before the movie came out and after but they wanna act like Rian didn't stoke the fire and is a innocent man lmfao gotta love this generation of not taking responsibility
Yeah, this is going to be another pass from me and them using the term “manbaby” unironically in the film? Hard pass.

Mindy: " remember the stab movie that came out last year?"
Liv: "oh, yeah the one the knives out guy directed right? You know I actually really liked that one."
Mindy: "of course you did, you have terrible taste."
That doesn't sound like a defense of johnson.
Exactly. Sean never watches the movies he criticizes 😂
@@zacharysaleh1352 I'm thinking he is viewing it through an anti-SJW lense. Sam's non expression most of the time comes off like she is on the borderline of a psychotic break. And fighting the the urge to kill.
Honestly, I feel like Richies family should have believed the online conspiracies, not actually started them. It would have been better if they actually believed Richie to be innocent and that Sam is the real killer.
Billy was a teen yet has a daughter who is a teen around 20 years after he died?
What I didn’t understand is how caught up Billy was in finally getting to bang Sidney in scream one and scream five just retcons all that and says that he was actually banging someone else on the side and had a kid with her… Totally stupid
Sam is totally stupid. Billy cheating on Sidney is preposterous. What idiot plans on killing their girlfriend and goes out and jeopardize that by cheating on her in a town where everyone knew that Sidney's mom was sleeping around. You even had the cheerleader click going to the bathroom and gossiping about Billy and Sidney's relationship. Oh but some dumb chick saying that Billy was banging her in a diary without any proof he did is so believable. 🙄
He wanted to take her virginity so she could die according to to the "rules" I doubt a fucking psycho like Billy would be a loyal boyfriend...he killed and r*ped her mum I doubt he he would have any morals towards cheating...
Having a cast of terrible actors will do that. And here come the Jenna Ortega simps with xem/it/them japanese anime avatars
I am so baffled people say this is one of the better sequels. It’s the worst.
The Carpenter sisters are SO annoying.
Nah i didn't care for Sam in scream 5 but in 6 she improved A LOT, and melissa genuinely did a great job
she was better in 5, it’s like she’s scared to commit and immerse herself into a character with so much potential being the child of a deranged serial killer, she should be giving a better performance but she’s acting like a brand new unseasoned actress intimidated by the role.
Nothing against the actress, but they basically did the exact same thing with her character that they did in part 5.
@@politefan8141 well it's the same person like lol
@@friendlywafersedits3340 It's still lazy to recycle the character beats from a movie that just came out a year ago where we were already teased that she may be the killer. Going into this one, you know there is no way she is going to be the killer.
@@politefan8141 my brother in Christ like you said yourself it's been less than a year lol not a long time for a person to change completely... Sidney was still the same from 1 to 2 but stronger. Just like Sam, who still has visions but less and that's demonstrated on the way she sees him. He appeared to her before cristal clear all the time, which is different in 6. She let loose in the end of five when she stabbed Richie but she seemed like she snapped and went somewhere else, in six she's totally present, controlled and even "happy" lol she's totally enjoying herself when she's killing ghostface. Her character development is very clear but that darkness will always be there.
really good review, it hits on the flaws that really bugged me. the worst scene was the subway one, are passengers that calm if someone around them gets stabbed ? like wth
Okay, incoming great idea: the next Scream should be a silent movie because Silence is Violence! Huh? Huh?
You could make a Scream movie that mocks SJW tropes.
You probably are racist but anyway I’m sure they’ll die eventually besides the sisters who at least one will eventually
I think they are waiting to kill alot of them in scream 7. Mindy and Gale are gonan die for sure in my opinion.
Is it really a race thing? It didn’t seem like it was when I’ve seen it, Minority main characters~Woke discussion I guess lol. Would’ve been cool if the female twin was the killer but I’m guessing one of them will die in 7
@@milanek1527 doubt it. The directors said in the commentary that they wanted them all to survive for a happy ending

Yeah after sam brutally stabs the dude multiple times like a psycho. It has the same energy as captain marvel's i've got nothing to prove to you.
I wish they actually filmed in New York
Imagine a ghostface chase in times Square or on a ferry or stature of liberty 🗽
To expensive using Toronto or Montreal as New York is what Hollywood chooses to do
I've never seen a single movie from this franchise. With the way Hollywood operates, it's only a matter of time before they decide to "improve" the originals and memory hole the original cuts. Thus, I might never watch them.
I completely agree with you.
Mentioning constant 'member berries' made me subscribe.

Nah, they were not stupid at all. As AJW stated they have actually aged pretty well. Ehren did well with the series, though not as great as Kevin.
I couldn't apply the "a minority can not be the killer" rule to Scream 5 because Amber appeared asian to me ... But it still kind of fits because asians are the next most "villifiable" race after whites.
In scream resurrection there were a black serial killer
You're first 3 points don't make much sense so decided to skip the rest.
1 - ghost face wasn't trying to throw the ladder down cause he knew they'd try to hold onto it with her possibly hanging on, he was wiggling the ladder back and forth until the other side lost strength to grip it.
2 - store owners have guns they're not going to advertise even if in NY. I don't know in what high class area you grew up in but in real life you have to protect yourself And your property. You say you're from NY but again gun owners aren't going to go advertising it especially since you said it's not easy to get one.

I knew it wasn't going to be great from the moment it was announced. They made it in less than a year. Absolutely ridiculous. No thought or effort put into it whatsoever. Just a money cow. But the film was okay... the killers tho and the motive was pure trash
Scream 4 wasn’t about her wanting to reboot the movies .She wanted Sidney’s fame.part 5 is about soft reboots with the OG name and toxic fandom
Jill was doing the soft reboot including the passing the torch to her. Legacy characters returning & all of that. @@ActualJusticeWarrior I agree. I hated both Scream 5 & 6. The Carpenter sisters have a horrible dynamic and the Billy ghost business is cringe. I'm a fan of Ms. Ortega. I prefer her to the older sister. I wish Jenna were the main character.
Why???
I wish these films centered around Neve Cambell. She is better than both those little girls.
The whole movie sucked. It should have been 15 minuets.
I respect you doing the lords work, 5&6 are horribly written and directed Wes would turn in his grave watching these films
Hearing how the last two Scream movies went I'm glad I didn't keep up with the franchise. The fact that they are catering to Hollywood elites and are willing to insult long time audiences that are the lifeblood of franchises like their own is unforgivable!
