  • I found an affordable studio apartment to rent in central Paris, and it's time to move in to my 20m2 apartment in the 17th Arrondissement!
    Please let me know in the comments what you think of the ideas #1 and #2 soon or if you have another even better idea of how to arrange this studio! :)
    I've been living in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine the last 3 months, and although it's been a nice experience exploring somewhere new in the banlieu (suburbs), I'm so ready to be back in the city center and surrounded by Parisian culture 24/7.
    I have a couple ideas of what to do with this unfurnished space, and have mapped out some ideas with furniture I already have in storage from Limoges....
    I'll be moving all my stuff on the 11th of December so it's coming up fast, please let me know if you prefer idea #1 or #2 ! :)
    Thanks for watching and seeya in the next one, ciao ciao for now ✌🏽.

    As a French-American having grown up in Southern California, I've been living in France the last 7+ years and I make videos in both English & French. I talk about the differences between the American and French cultures, lifestyle of an expat living in France, language learning techniques and practices, travel vlogs all around France/Europe and recently some American travel vlogs from a road trip in the South-West of USA.
    Of course I can't forget I started my channel by sharing my experience going through the French Nationality process and interviews from my journey to becoming French :)

    That kitchen is insane.

      yeaaaa, it's not the most convenient for cooking and I constantly need to keep the station non-cluttered so I have enough space for preparing meals, but for one person it does the trick alright ^^

      Hello!! Thank you! I'm so happy with this amazing find! It's not always easy to find an apartment that pleases you and even harder to find one in a neighborhood that you enjoy at a price you can afford ^^

    Okay so a little late to the party here. What did you decide? Option one with the bed behind the couch, or option two with the bed set and a smaller couch?

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  2 роки тому

      Hey thanks! I opted for the fixed bed and smaller couch, both facing the window and it turned out nicely! :)

    I think your apartment is a quintessentially Parisian pied a Terre. Very charmant and mignon. The little balcony with the wrought iron (called a Juliet balcony I believe) is the type of balcony we all see when movies take place in Paris. And it is exactly the type of balcony that everyone dreams of! I hope you incorporate your books and french thrift shop antiques and wine bottles and make it the poetic dreamy intellectual apartment that people always envision themselves to have when they ever get the chance to move to Paris and have an apartment there. You are living everyone's dream! I bet earnest Hemingway had a similar apartment when he was writing books and was deep in thought and learning about himself when he lived in Paris. Plus the 17th I heard is a nice area, not as expensive as the super pricey 16th but still close to Arc de Triomphe and montmarte and moulin rouge and sacre Coeur and still very much in the hustle and vibrancy of it all. You really are living everyone's fantasy of Paris!!

    Ahah ^^ Nice apartment! Congrats for moving in central Paris! I completely forgot about the small kitchens in a cupboard, it bring me some nice memories of my life in Paris in my “chambre de bonne”.
    For your furniture idea, I think the option 1 will be the most interesting. Personally, I would go for this one. The option 2 with the bed would be nice in a bigger room but here I think it will looks too crowded with furniture and will makes the space look smaller. So for me, I will advise the option 1: less furniture but more comfortable to live in and more easy if you want to have some friends to come over.

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  2 роки тому +1

      Hey thanks for your comment! Yeah I would have loved to have the first option, but in the end, my couch was just too big to even fit through the door so I had to change plans ^^. I ended up bringing my 2nd couch which was smaller, and my bed, which does take up some space, but I like the final result because it still feels like separate smaller spaces in general :). When did you live in Paris and where are you originally from ?

      @@JordanPatrick hey 👋🏻 yeah tiny spaces in Paris, nightmare to furnish 😄 the most important is to feel good in your flat.
      I’m French, from Limoges, I went to live in Paris for my studies and I started to work there. I’ve been living in Paris for 8 years, I’ve been in a studio in the 14th, and living in Friends (huge) place in the 1st, I went after that for a ‘chambre de bonne’ in the 5th and ended living with my ex in the 20th.
      Now I’m living in London, since 6 years.

    Nice place. What I think of as a typical Paris studio apartment. When I had a similar size place (in Chicago), I went for what would be your "plan 2." I found I really liked the comfort of my bed set up all the time. The other plan might be better if you expect to have 3 or 4 guests there at the same time. Disappointing to hear that the Metro doesn't run all night like the NYC subway. I look forward to your video tour of the 17th. Have never seen it.

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your advice! After re-evaluating my options and sketches, I agree I think the 2nd option is more reasonable and I'll have to get creative with the styling to make it feel cozy and inviting and feel more like a living room somehow ^^. Stay tuned for that arrondissement tour video to come ^^

    Bonjour Jordan , c'est petit mais c'est mignon et puis le 17 ème c'est un bel arrondissement. Je pense que tu trouveras facilement chez Ikea des meubles adaptés , ma fille à la même surface que toi et pareil tout en blanc , c'est ce qu'elle a fait Seulement leurs magasins sont presque tous en grande banlieue

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  2 роки тому

      Merci pour les conseils! C'est exactement ce que j'ai fait! Un après-midi je suis allé à IKEA avec ma voiture (qui est garé en banlieue) au magasin vers l'aeroport et j'ai trouvé quassiment tout ce qu'il m'avait faut en une seule fois :)

    Dang Jordan, it feels like I have been watching you for more than 2 years. Love your videos and adventures and do hope you make some vids while back in California. I am impressed with your willingness to be a minimalist and set your priorities on travel. Makes me really realize how much so many people take for granted. Have a great trip and cant wait to see your new place done up.

    Now I've moved to Versailles, I know how frustrating it is, having to leave earlier just to catch the last train or metro. Plus you can't take a taxi, because there are bloody expensive in France, there is practically no uber drivers.
    Your studio has quite decent a ceiling height for Paris. Not sure it is enough for a loft bed. Anyway, the second layout seems the better option.

    • @JordanPatrick
      @JordanPatrick  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for your comment ! You know exactly what it's like to stay conscious of the time and metro schedule to be sure to get home at night and it's not a great feeling! Versailles is a nice area and hope you have more conveniences there than I did in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine!

      @@JordanPatrick For sure, Versailles is a total far cry from Sheffield, extremely fancy 🤭. It's just been a month, eventually I will get used to the bourgeoisie and taking public transport. Line N is superfast and convenient, you can get to Gare Montparnasse in 12 or 25 minutes, but last one at 11:50 pm. To be honest, I would have liked to live in the 13th, probably my favourite arrondissement.

    • @JordanPatrick

      Oui c'est vrai ! ...pour le même prix que ce petit studio à Paris, j'ai eu un appart à Limoges 55m2 (2 chambres) à moi même pour encore moins cher ! La qualité de vivre n'est pas pareille, mais la vie parisienne avec la culture, les evenements, l'art, la possiblité de voyager, etc me manquaient ! ^^
